Perhaps Stonewardens(?) used plate while Windrunners used the blades.

I get the feeling that Shardblades and Shardplate were tainted in some way by "the enemy," which caused the Knights Radiant to discontinue using them and also causes the distaste that Syl and Kaladin have for the items.

Also, I don't think the Spren are Cultivation's creation.  I think that they are the Splinters of the Almighty's consciousness/power, kind of like the mist spirit in Mistborn, and (possibly) the Seons in Elantris.
Makes a lot of sense, if he's Transformation, given how the Spren accompany change.

Hmm, wonder if the fact that recording a fact about a spren locks that aspect of the spren in place plays into this? Like, they transform until they're recorded? Don't know exactly where I'm going with this :-\

My problem with the Pashmen=spren theory is that they seem a bit too substantial. From my understanding of the spren, they were more like visual representations of things such as concepts and emotions.

Would they become zombie like again? Or would they become normal? or would they die?"

The problem with this idea is that the Shaod predates the city of Elantris. As per the Elantris annotations, the city of Elantris strengthened abilities that were already present. So taking an Elantrian away from the city would reduce their power, but it wouldn't turn them into zombies.

The thing I found odd about Spren is there are none in Shinovar. So, if the theory that Cultivation decided to hide there is correct, then the Spren are a creation of the other Shard on Roshar, no?

I'm having a hard time remembering this section, and it doesn't make sense to me intuitively. I mean, Szeth is a Windrunner, so he pretty much needs an honorspren right? Or perhaps him having an honorspren made him a Truthless? (Also, who the heck trained him to Surgebind?)

While I think the conversation with Brandon about Galladon makes it more likely, I still think it's more likely that it's just a Dula.

Yes, but Brandon went to such lengths explaining how Galladon's pessimism was unique that I find it hard to believe that Grumpy the Dula is anyone but Galladon.

Um, hospital is a great place to read... I mean, you're not driving or operating heavy machinery. Hence, perfect place to read.

Seriously though, hope she's alright. Family definitely takes precedence.

See, I took the Splinters of Aona to be the Seons and the Splinters of Skai to be the Skaze. Also, I don't think you're able to take up the power of a splintered Shard.

my idea was that the whole custom of fighting over gemhearts and harvesting them and the importance attributed to it was a kind of oral tradition passed down over generations so that even if written histories failed or were destroyed or were lost in translation, humans would continue to harvest the gemhearts and interrupt the Voidbringer lifecycle, keeping thunderclasts from gestating.

As far as I understood, the gemhearts were important for Soulcasting purposes. Also, this idea loses some traction considering that humanity has only known about the chasmfiends for 7 years. Remember, it was when the Alethi discovered the Parshendi that they also discovered the chasmfiends.

Personally, I don't see Jezrien being a 'bad guy.' It's more like I see there being the possibility that he may have made a deal with the devil or something to that effect.

Despite the fact that my local library is the homeless hangout, I love it. I mean seriously, how can someone complain about free books? Even if they're not new releases, there's still plenty of good reading to be found.

Q: So, Kalak says that the battle was so fierce, but only one of them died. Isn't that a bit of a contradiction?

Brandon: Yes. [everyone laughs]

Brandon: You're just gonna have to read and find out. There's definitely more going on there than has been explained so far. But I really can't talk much about the prelude.

I was on the opposite end of the room when this question was asked, but that's pretty much how it went. There was a lot of background noise (laughing) when the kid pointed out that it was a contradiction, so I couldn't hear some of Brandon's response. Still, I have to throw some support to the idea that Jezrien isn't actually a good guy in the prelude. He's the only one there and Kelek notices that Jezrien seems 'broken' and a 'coward' as well. Also, the way that Brandon read Jezrien's lines just made me think, "Wow, that character sounds like a d**che."

You were at the SD signing? Heh, that's pretty awesome. You weren't the guy who passed out during the Q&A I hope.

Anyways, I figured asking something too direct would get a RAFO. Still, from his answers, I'd say it's pretty safe to say that Grumpy is Galladon. As for the other 17th Sharders, I get the feeling that they're characters we probably haven't seen before. Really though, I'm basing this on my desire for the makeup of the 17th Shard to be more than just Elantrian.

Yeah, I have issues with the Parshendi being the army humanity fights against at the end. Why would they be so respectful in battle if they're this ultimate force of destruction? Still, I'm looking forward to finding more about their 'terrible gods' that Gavilar talked about. Somehow I don't think those gods will end up being large chasmfiends like Gavilar thought.
