Rants and Stuff / UAI (or why I need to actually read things)
« on: December 18, 2003, 07:51:57 PM »
Well, the culmanation of my last two years of school is the UAI. This is a rank, not a mark, out of one hundred, in a bell-shaped curve compared to the rest of the state. it also decides what university courses you are able to get into.

The UAI was released today at 9 A.M. I spent 45 minutes plugging away the site, trying to connect to what I thought was a server that was overloaded and went down from every student in the state trying to connect.

That's when someone informs me over IM that I'm connecting to the wrong site. I check the other piece of paper, realise that he's right. I simply didn't read it correctly.

Feel free to laugh at me for this.

That said, I ended up with a UAI of 88.75. Not bad at all.

What's this? / Could it be a new game?
« on: December 07, 2003, 09:47:02 PM »
If you read my review a bit ago for FATE, you would have noticed I'm distinctly impressed with the system.  Because of this, I'd be interested in running a game using it, that of course takes a character and story-oriented approach. However, we have already got the active AORP, the kind of slow Back for Seconds, and the Star Wars game beginning soon. So before I go any further, is anyone actually interested in another game? I'll start talking details if two or more are interested.

Suggestions Box / Subtitles
« on: November 25, 2003, 06:57:08 PM »
Here's an idea. The subtitles of all the articles are completly random. Some people leave it blank, some people include the author's name, some people do a newspaper style headline, , sometimes it's something witty, and I'm pretty sure I've seen case of the actual subtitle of the work being reviewed put here.

How about this gets a bit normalised? It currently looks really stupid on the department pages. And while we're at it, that Ars Magica review needs a score, the huge "No Score" looks ridiculous. But I digress. Anyway, it think it would be better if we could come to an agreement and all use the Subtitle box for the same sort of thing.

This one was written the day before my first test.

I venture boldly
into this horrific act.
Dreaded HSC.

Rants and Stuff / HSC tests
« on: October 22, 2003, 01:19:17 AM »
Well, I'm well into them, a third of the way in fact. That doesn't make me hate them any less.

English paper one was ok...pretty much what I was expecting, even including the fact that I wouldn't understand the second text they gave us. (The second text never makes sense) Part 2 was a short story, obviously put there just to spite me, since I despise having to try and develop a short story in 40 minutes. It just doesn't happen. I feel I did poorly on section 2, yet the last two times I felt that, it was my best section.  Part 3 was exactly as I expected, so I did pretty well with a mostly memorised essay that just needed a bit of tweaking to fit the question. Except of course the question made it difficult to use visual texts, of which my best text (Evangelion) was. I figured out a way around it (By saying it inlcuded a script or somthing) but afterwards people were feeling horrible.

English 2, which I did this morning, was also better than I expected. I did fairly well, but at the beginning I was stressing unbelievably.  Part 1, on Brave New World and Blade Runner was terrible, because the question was the one thing they could ask that I wasn't good at. (Context). King Lear was better, I liked the question, and found I was quoting very freely, so i must have done something right. Part 3,. Ted Hughes, was pretty good as well.

Tomorrow is Information Processes and Technology. I have done absolutely no work this year, and still topped the class,  so I should Blitz it, despite learning the course in a week. I'm not looking forward to it though. It's long and tedious, you have to write a lot for simple questions to get full marks. Besides, it's a two hour test that takes three hours, meaning you get to wait an extra hour at the end of it.  Not kidding, I did a practice test at home, and finished in time, despite watching a TV show and eating a meal halfway through.

Everyone is now celebrating no more English ever. Except me. I have an exam for English Extension still, as well as a future career as an English teacher.

Everything Else / No More School!
« on: September 26, 2003, 05:47:48 AM »
Well, I've finished. 13 years of so-called "education" has come to an end. It strikes me as a bit funny that people were crying - we'll see each other tomorrow night at the formal, and again in a few weeks for an english exam. It was a fun day though, and we received numerous gifts. I'll sort of miss the people, even though I've only known them a few years (I came to this school 3 years ago). But still, I'll end up seeing the ones who are my friends still, so no major problem.

But hey, I'm out!!! No more school!!!!

Incidentlly,  I was given a list of everyone's e-mails that I organised to be put together. After adding them to my IM, I have discovered that most people don't go online first thing after they finish school forever. I am such a nerd.

Books / systemjammers
« on: September 18, 2003, 02:18:08 AM »
I've recently finished a year 12 course of four unit english. Basically, the entire course revolves around the creation of a single text. In my case, it was a short story called "systemjammers". Is anyone interested in reading it? I can send it via e-mail dor anyone who wants it, along with the reflection statement, and precursor to it I wrote "system log".

Everything Else / Ow. That hurt.
« on: September 17, 2003, 11:00:31 PM »
Yesterday, at school I got into an insulting match with someone in my class. I though we were just mucking around, until he hit me. It gave me a mild concussion, and I lost memory for several minutes. I later got it back, but I'm still missing a few minutes of what happened. It got sorted out, and we're each writing apologies to each other. My face still hurts though. Moral of the story: afte ryou pay ssomeone out, make sure you're ready to duck.
