Brandon Sanderson / Re: How did the Lord Ruler survive a beheading?
« on: August 08, 2010, 04:27:15 PM »
i always pictured him as Burning both Pewter and G0ld, and taking an Axe to the neck.

basically, hes fighting some small army somewhere, and a lucky axeman swings, and hits him right in the side of the next, shearing through most of the muscle, but stopping on his pewter-enhanced Spine.  The LR then jerks the Axe out of his hands, yanks it out of his Next, while Flaring his Goldmind to quickly heal, and then proceeds to Slaughter the rest of the squad.   a few Hundred years of PR and Spin later, and presto.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: [Spoilers] Just finished Mistborn... confused

its easy to get confused with the Metal Chart, because its not a Pure Chart, its been Changed many times.  First, you have the Natural 16 Metals, which are then changed by Ruin and Preservation by replacing two of the Metals with Atium and Larasium.  After the Rise of The Lord Ruler, he suppreses public knowledge of the chart, and the Noble families, start keeping secrets from each other, resulting in the Devolution of the chart to 10 metals, 8 Basic Metals, and 2 Time Metals.   As the books progress, new Metals are rediscovered by Vin, and through experimentation(mostly on Herself), new Alloys, which brings the chart up to 15 at the end of the Final book. (note: 8 basic, gold + alloy, atium + alloy, aluminum + alloy, larasium)  At the End of the Book, Sazed withdraws the two God Metals + alloys, and restores the two Natural Metals, + alloys.

A quick rundown of the metals remain the same. Iron, Tin, Zinc, Copper, Aluminum, and Gold.  and their Alloys, Steel, Pewter, Brass, Bronze, Duralumin, and Electrum.  Atium is not a Natural Metal, or a Natural part of the Chart, it was Stapled onto it (by Preservation) as a way to weaken Ruin.  It, and its Alloy Replaced one of the time metals on the Chart.  Larasium is also Not a Natural Metal, and it Replaces one of the Enhancement metals.

Once Sazed gathered all the Ruin/Preservation powers to himself, he stopped the Release of Atium/Larasium into the world, and restored the Original Two Metals, Chromium, and Cadmium to their spots.  With their alloys, this brings the chart back up to 16 Natural Metals.  If in a later book Brandon returns, their will remain the possibility of Sazed Releasing the two God Metals back.  but we don't know if he will, or will do something different and cool.

this is a bit of rambling explanation.

OK I finally finished reading the newest Preview on Tor, and several things just Jumped out and bit me. Wall Of Text and Various Fan Gushing to Follow.

Random idea One: this book will deal with only 4 shards/powers.

reason? this Quote “Three of sixteen ruled, but now the Broken One reigns.”

OK, from the Forum, and the various Annotations I've learned that their are 16 Shards, or Powers in Sandersons Works,  we've met Two in the Mistborn Series (Ruin/Preservation) One in Elantris (the Dor) and One Warbreaker (Endowment).   We've also seen Hoid, the Planet Hopper, and the current rumor is he's Bonded/Serving a Shard as well.   So, 16 Shards... 3 of Sixteen Ruled.   this implies (to me, it might not to you) that After the Shattering, a few of the Shards Got together, and watched over this section of the Universe.  But, they got Defeated by a 4th Shard, the "Broken One" who now rules this world (Like Ruin was planing on).  which is also just a cool idea, :D

Another idea that Struck me,  one of the Magic systems of this book,  Prophecy before Death.  IE, the lovely little quotes that start each chapter (and provide so much Juicy worldbuilding, in less than a sentence... omg i love them squeee!!)  ahem.... that this is one of the Magic systems, possibly a blended system.  (by blending i mean, Preservation had Allomancy, Ruin had Hemology, together they both powered Feraceumy).  Just a thought.

I will now return to Babbling and counting the hours till this book gets Released..... 26:10:46:30 to go

one thing struck me, her Dad's a Soulcaster right? a hidden one in that no one else knew about it, and they find that Bracelet thingy on his body.   But it doesn't work, so my main question is, Why???

First Idea:  Its outta Juice.  if the Bracelet thingy runs off of Stormlight, perhaps its been drained, and the Kids don't Know you have to recharge it?

Second idea: Its "soul-bound" to a specific user.  not sure if i like this idea, but it has merits, that Soulcasters are Born, not Made, and perhaps, Shallen could be one?

Third Idea: Its got a Passcode.  press up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A.

thoughts? idea's? llama's?  ;D

Hello!

My name is John H.  I live in California, am 31years old and am a Large Fan of Brandon Sandersons Books.

main hobbies include Magic: the Gathering, City of Heroes/Villains On-line, and various RPGs, such as Exalted, (Aeon)Trinity, Macross.  Most of which i bought for the creative Magic, and Settings, and anything Cool that Catches my Eye.   I also have the habit of Capitalising random words.

I live in a small town, without a Local Comic/Bookstor, so most of my Reading and Knowledge about most topics comes from, Wikipeida, TvTropes, and Youtube.  If my sense of Humor is warped, you know who to Blame!  ... and knowing is half the Battle, GI Joe! *hums theme song*

yeah...  ::) I also love 80's Era Cartoons, Transformers, GIJoe, Mask, Visionaries, Gargoyles, you name it, i might have seen an episode, and liked it.   ;D

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Problem: Smokers.
« on: June 28, 2010, 10:58:58 PM »
theirs really 3 ways to "Detect" a Smoker

1: a person eats a litte bit of pure "Allomantic" Copper, and trys to sense if they have a "Heat Source" in their Belly

2: you feed a person copper in the presance of two Seekers.  if neither Seeker can Sense the Other, the Third person must Logicly be a Smoker, or Mistborn.  give them a Second Metal to see.

3: not publicly known, but Inquestitors with Seeker, or Mistborn basis will be able to Pierce Copperclouds, and be able to hunt Smokers.  this is also an Added Reason why Marsh was so quickly "Recruited" into their Ranks.

oh, and befor i forget, hiya! long time bradon fan, first time poster. :D
