Webcomics & Free Stuff / Walking in Circles
« on: November 30, 2004, 12:47:50 PM »
This webgame consumed my life for basically all of yesterday afternoon. It's one of those that dumps you into a scene with no clues initially. If that bothers you, you might not like this, but if you're a fan of the original Myst, I bet you'll love it.

Rants and Stuff / letting my voice be heard
« on: October 19, 2004, 01:32:56 PM »
Speaking of politics, a friend of mine told me about this site last night:
http://www.votepair.org/
Basically, it's a semi-formal way of "vote swapping" between people in different states. One of the huge frustrations of being a non-Bush supporter in Utah is that I know my vote will count for nothing here. However, there are strong supporters of third-party candidates in swing states who simply want their man to get a certain percent of the popular vote. So we vote swap, and I vote for their guy, and they vote for my guy, and we both get our voices heard.

So anyway, I don't know how many others are in heavy right-wing states and want their vote to count for something, but I thought I'd share this just in case.

Rants and Stuff / In the corner

So EUOL, why is HoM in the corner for changing his name when his name is still House of Mustard? That doesn't make any sense.

Rants and Stuff / weekend trip to Zion's
« on: August 17, 2004, 03:03:55 PM »
So last Saturday I went with a group of friends to Zion's National Park. Usually I barely take any pictures at all, so getting up to nearly 60 is a new feat for me. Anyway, for those interested:

Video Games / Crimsonland
« on: August 12, 2004, 01:14:45 PM »
Some of you may have seen this on 8Bit Theater, but he linked to an indie game called Crimsonland. The nearest thing I can compare it to is SmashTV, only you're on a desert alien planet and there are WAY more baddies. I didn't even like SmashTV that much, but holy cow, this game is so fun. It's got a free download and trial version, which I whole-heartedly recommend.

Rants and Stuff / random pic post

So, I think these three pictures are rather amusing, so I'm going to share them:

The first two were taken in Yellowstone as a bison wandered by the bison warning signs. The last one is me the day after getting nailed in the mouth with a racquet. That little incident cost me about $130.

Webcomics & Free Stuff / The thread for favorite comic strip posts

You know, we should have one of these. When you're reading your chosen list of comics, and you come across one that MUST be shared, put it here. For example, I believe Sam Logan has just created my favorite Sam & Fuzzy strip ever:

Video Games / The death of gaming
« on: March 12, 2004, 05:28:08 PM »
Here's an inflammatory but still very interesting article (editorial, really) about why the gaming industry is going to have the same kind of economic crash that happened to the internet a couple years back.

warning: uses semi-vulgar though hilarious insults

Site News / Celebrities and such

Fell just called to inform me that Andy Serkis, who brought Gollum to life in the LotR movies, will be doing a book signing tonight at the Crossroads Mall in Salt Lake City. The book is titled "Gollum" and is presumably about Mr. Serkis' experiences in while filming. At the risk of irking him for not buying the book, I'm going to ask him to sign my Two Towers DVD case instead. Fell suggested buying a Gollum action figure and having him sign the box, and keeping it as a collector's item.

I can't confirm this event through either the Borders web site or the Andy Serkis official web site, but I think I'll go anyway, just in case. If anyone wants to car pool up to SLC, post it here.

Video Games / Horizons: Empire of Istaria
« on: December 02, 2003, 01:20:55 PM »
I don't know how people feel about MMORPGs, but lately I've been looking more and more at switching from DAoC to a new game called Horizons. It's a typical fantasy MMOG, but it's big selling point is that you can play a dragon. Not like a limited half-dragon or anything, a full-fledged fire-breathing flying type dragon. Anyway, I'm still on the fence about it, but I'd like to know if anyone else is interested in playing it. Here's the official site.

EDIT: I found a very good article that summarizes what I think is cool about Horizons.
