He already has Elantris, the first Alcatraz book, and two Mistborn books out. HOA will be the fifth published.

Welcome back, and I hope you have fun on the forums.  Make sure you check your PMs--I've sent you one to help you get started!

Thanks and you guys make me laugh. :)

Be good, and there will be no problems. :D  Not that I'm particularly worried--you all are pretty good about policing yourselves, which is always nice.

So, go forth, have fun, and discuss away!

I'm going to lock the troll topics that don't have much discussion.  I'm tired of him, too, and I'm working on dealing with him. Sorry it's taking a bit, everyone.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: What else are you reading, lately?
« on: September 11, 2008, 01:18:14 AM »

Once that is posted (i'll get to it tonight i hope), we should get a stick thread in THIS forum stating "Book recommendations/discussions for those who like Brandon's novels" or something like that.  locked topic with a brief lowdown on what to expect by clicking on the link.  this way, both of our ideas are accomplished - people see that there are indeed Brandon specific fan recommendations somewhere here (like i think is essential), and they see more of the forums and hopefully get more involved (like you think is essential).

I will check for the thread you create in the books forum in the morning (or later tonight--don't know if I'll be on the computer later or not), and I'd be happy to create a linking, locked post in this section doing what you asked.

Ookla's right that I'm not terribly concerned about this particular thread, but I'm certainly happy to accommodate those who are when presented with a workable, easy solution such as has been proposed.  :)

And this thread DOES NOT BELONG IN THIS FORUM.

In general, I'd agree with you, Ookla, since there's a perfectly good "What are you reading" thread in Books. But since the OP was asking Brandon's fans specifically, and many may not frequent the other parts of the boards, I think it's all right this time. Especially since a lot of the posts are 'If you like Brandon's books, these others may interest you as well" types of posts.

Though might I suggest to everyone that if you'd like to discuss what you're reading in general, as opposed to "in lieu of Brandon's newest books since they're not out yet," to please join the discussion in the Books section? Thanks!

No worries. THis is a busy time of year!  We fly out Saturday morning. We're loading the truck on Thursday afternoon/evening, cleaning the apartment on Friday, and gone completely on Saturday.

Well, since I haven't heard back from Fellfrosch, and no one else has commented, I'm guessing it ended up not being a good day for people. So, I suppose I will be cancelling it.

I will miss seeing all you Utah people, and I'll still be around on the boards! :)

Fellfrosch, do you know if you'll be able to make it yet?

Also,  the offer's still open for anyone else available that day--just let me know if you plan on coming!

Chris got a new job in Atlanta, Georgia. In fact, he's already gone out to look for a place to live. Brenna and I will be in town until the end of the month, so I thought I'd see if anyone wanted to come have a potluck dinner/goodbye party before I go. It'd probably be the evening of the 24th at my apartment here in Holladay--say, around 5 or so--whatever works best for people.

Any takers?

Kristy

She's quoting people who've left her comments on her blog. Other people mentioned Mistborn and Elantris, too. (She recently asked people to recommend good books they've read, then she copied and pasted a lot of the responses into an actual post.)

For infants and toddlers, anything by Sandra Boynton.  I really like her music, too.

Do any of the libraries near you run Adult Literacy classes?  If so, you could help teach people to read. Those classes are often in the evening, since the people who need them often work during the day, too.
