Looks interesting.  I was surprised at the vehemence against Iron Monkey, a film I actually enjoyed quite a bit.  It's been a while since I saw it, but I thought it was quick, funny and action-packed.

House of Flying Daggers was overhyped.  Cool action, beautiful scenery, awful story.

The last section of "Flying Daggers" was quite lame - I was having a lot of fun with it until it just fell apart and became a very stupid melodrama.  ???

But "Iron Monkey" literally had no good qualities, in my opinion - not skillfull or fun, just a dreadful peice of film making. in fact, that's going far too easy on it. It's quite high on my worst of all time list. That is, of course, just one opinion, though.

I don't think it was either - well, maybe a bit of a red herrring. I think it was really just a nice little character moment, telling us a little about who she was, and then giving Declan an opening to make a move - get things all nice and calm and then BOOM!

One of my favorite moments in the film. We've seen Ethan's P.O.V. of a break in twice before - I liked this different appraoch.

I've seen this twice already, and I'm going again tomorrow. What a great peice of summer fun.

I concur that the MI theme is superior to the Bond theme. DOnt' get me wrong, I like the Bond theme, especially if done as a surf guitar, but the MI theme is completely awesome in every way.

The M:I theme is catchier than just about anything. Even Kanye West's version in this film is good (though his "Impossible" song is dreadful.).

Great review. I can't wait to use the phrase "rectal-cranial inversion."

Get a job working for The Larry H. Miller Group - I guarrantee you'll find the  perfect chance to use it each and every single day.

I was hugely unimpressed with the special effects in Episode 3. Great, shiney things. I'm impressed when I see real looking CGI, not when I see shiny-obviously-fake CGI.

The openning sequence of the ships going into battle in "Revenge of The Sith" was, in my opinion, one of the greatest FX sequences ever, and Yoda was awesome. I'll admit that not all of the effects were perfect, though there was nothing in the realm of those awful watermelon aardvark's that Anakin rides in "Attack of The Clones" (the single worst FX shot in the Star Wars saga.). I still think it was worthy of a nod, though again, "Kong" was obviously the choice to win.

I mostly responding to the Gibbs, but don't worry, I was casting curt glances in your direction as well. :)

Yeah, yeah. I know. I'm getting plenty of crap about my opinion on this one, and I feel the need to point out that seperate categories was not a serious suggestion -it was exaggeration for comic effect.

But I do not remotely believe that "Lose Yourself" was a great song, even by rap standards. It was kind of catchy, and got stuck in my head, but not in a good way, and I was more impressed with Will Smith's "Wild Wild West" rap.

In retrospect, I would have to admit that I agree that the favorites list's need to be shorter. These are my reasons:

It makes the bios too long.
Nobody really cares.
It makes me feel like there should also be a "least favorites" list.
It's too self indulgent.
No matter how many I put on the list, I feel like I leave something off.
"Star Wars," "Indiana Jones" and "The Lord of The Rings" monopolize too space.
Someone might be embarrassed to reveal that he liked "King Arthur."
Is anyone actually going to read these?
With Don Knotts dead, my enthusiasm for everything is waning.
It's hard to pick a favorite member of "The Monkees."
Choosing between :"Schindler's List" and Dave Letterman's "Top 10 Rejected Children's Books" as "Favorite List" is impossible.
Pits brother against brother.
Moving letter from council of Bishops.
It wasn't even Spriggan who complained about it.
With all of the suffering in the world, does it really matter?
When you really think about it, there were really only four different episode of "Frasier," they just rotated them, yet it was still enjoyable, which makes me feel confilcted about how I would rank it, especially since Kesley Grammer ranged from subtley engaging to campily over the top.
Cookies and lingerie?
Can't decide between "Casablanca" and Charles Bronson remake "Caboblanco."
I can't tell the difference between ABC News, "Hill Street Blues," and a Preacher on "The Old Time Gospel Hour."
It's hard to tell one Bill Cosby or Bob Newheart series from another.
I hate lists.

I'm thinking we want a limit to how many "favorite" things we include. And that we should put them in as regular text, not a vertical list.

I forgot to mention my favorite foods.

Pizza with dived tomatoes and pinapple.
Pizza with diced tomatoes only.
Pizza with cheese only.
Falafel with hummus.
Jelly beans.
Tomoto sandwiches.
Sharp cheddar cheese.
Ritz crackers with sharp ceddar cheese.
Wheat thins with sharp cheddar cheese.
Bread (any kind, but honey wheat is awesome!).
Fresh fruit.
Celery.
Fat Free Ranch dressing (suprisingly good on tomato and pinapple pizza).
Sour Patch Kids.
Toast.
Toast with raspberry jam.
Toast with raspberry jam and rushed pieces of boiled egg (don't judge me.).
Swedish Fish.
Sweet pickles.
Cantalope.
Watermelon.
Cantelope with a little salt.
Watermelon with a lot of salt.

Im interested in seeing this, but not because of the plot, I love Maliks Cinimatograhy which is usually stunning. Im thinking that this may be good for a rental though now after the review.

Hard to say. If you want to see it for the cinematography, the theater is the best place to truly appreciate that, and I grant you that is very good, though personally I thought the cinematography in "Memoirs of a Gesiha" completely buried it in terms of visual splendor.

In the end, If you are a big fan of Malick's impressive visual style, it might be worth you're time - just don't expect much.

When's the Firewall review?

We were kind of thinking it would be sometime after we have seen the film, roughly.

Outstanding news on "Fine Young Hannibal." Sir Anthony Hopkins will not, repeat NOT, be narrating. I say this is outstanding news because I like Hopkins and it's about time he gave me reason to respect him again. He says that he has put Hannibal behind him forever.

I look forward to seeing him in "The World's Fastest Indian" and hope he goes back to doing the kind of fine work like "Remains of the Day" and "Amistad" that made me admire him so much as an actor.

By all means, everyone, any movies of interest that we left out of the article, bring them up on the boards so we can all hear about them.

The article was merely a highlights list of some of the movies that we had found interesting on some level, and "Young Hannibal," that are scheduled for release this year. Obviously, it does not include every single movie that will be released in 2006.

Okay, people are taking shots at "King Kong" and Kirsten Dunst.  Stop the world, I want to get off.

I think Kirsten has proven to be a versatile and engaging actress that has grown over the years and given great perfromances both as a child and an adult. WHile I agree that the trailer for "Marie Antionette" does have a tenny bopper element, that intrigues me. The bottom line is that Sophia and Kirsten did great wotk together on "The virgin Suicides," and I'm glad they are working together again.

As for "Kong" Vs. "Pink Panther" . . . oh sweet moses. I . . . I . . .  I have to lie down.
