Roughly 300 points per starter box.

Best. Mini. Game. Evar!

I dropped it only because of lack of time.

Book-wise, Warmachine: Prime is the basic rules.  Has everything you need to know and then some.  Escalation is the next book and has some new units and a big campaign. Apotheosis came out after I quit so I don't have much of an idea what's in that.  I heard it's mostly (good) fluff though.

Buy yourself Prime and a starter box of any of the factions and you'll be good to go.

One of the best parts about the game is that it plays well whether its a 300 pt game or a 1000 pt game.

Just make sure to check the errata.  There's a lot.

Plus, I wrote a review of it for TWG here:  http://www.timewastersguide.com/view.php?id=895

Not my best review, but it should suffice.

I don't think you're the one in the position to be asking questions...not that I can understand your question anyway.

Crazy moon language...

I think it's some kind of moon language.

I've always wanted to play a car fighting game with matchbox cars outfitted with machine guns and rockets...but I took one look at a pdf for the Car Wars Compendium and went into convulsions at the complexity.  The latest version also didn't do it for me either.

I've tried to design my own rules to mediocre effect.

Haven't found quite the right mix yet.

And a new version of Civilization usually marks a galactic rebirth.

Just sayin'

I wasn't impressed.  I need more game in my games than it provides.  The Sims is just too much simulation for me, so it is aptly named.

I do have a great story though.  One of my friend's sims was greatly entertained by the microwave.  Everytime he cooked something he'd just stand there and clap and cheer.  It really made him happy.  One day, while he was celebrating near the microwave he spontaneously combusted and died.  Brilliant.

I know you can buy Darwinia over Steam.  I haven't seen it in stores.

Jeffe,

What program did you use to make those super-power effects pictures in the earlier gaming chefs?

I guess I'll just have to save all my adoring praise up until then.

Hope it's soon, because I might a'splode.

Welcome back, JP, you've been missed.

And yes, we have a bit of a newbie inflitration problem.  Some of them do fine, but most have been trouble.

On the bright side, I've gotten to see a lot of fun pictures admonishing people for not reading the FAQ.
