Yeah, I agree w/ Ookla. If you're trying to start a local buzz, it's just seems kind of pointless for a writer not to capitalize on BEING local. Why try to get a publicist in NY to talk to contacts in UT when you're in UT? Methinks EUOL is being too content to pass the work along . . .

No, I heard they're re-keying the building. May have something to do with how many fifth-generation keys are floating around! lol

Ha ha. I'll agree that to everything there is a season, even with Weird Al.

I've become particularly obssessed w/ parodies of movies, books, & such--especially musical spoofs!  So I thought I'd start up a new thread to indulge my love for lyrical, satirical silliness.

My distinguished contribution below was 1st posted on that CONduit Reading thread in EUOL's section of this cool little forum. But I figured it'd do well as a start-up post.

Enjoy! And I hope a few of you get bit by the Weird Al bug. ;)

"THE ELANTRIAN BLUES"

Well, I got tossed into this city
Where no one wants to share,
We look all brown and creepy
An' Domi don't seem to care.

Ohhhh, yeah, I gots the Elantrian Blues
Yeah, they've really got me stuck.
I'm hungry an' tired an' bruised
An' plum run outta luck!

See, my Dula pal's real gloomy
But I keep tryin' hard to "live"
To show my fellow zombies
They've all got a lot to give.

My daddy's been wreckin' the kingdom,
Plus my fiancé thinks I'm dead.
My toe just won't quit throbbin'
An' my captain, he went Hoed.

Yep, no doubt it's the Elantrian Blues
Boy, they really, really suck.
I'm hungry an' tired an' bruised,
An' horrible short on luck!

Meanwhile, my baby, she done left me,
Then she stabbed me in the face.
That Derethi priest's a meanie,
An' the Dor's still outta reach.

Wellllll, the Elantrian Blues just suck,
'Cuz I'll prob'ly wind up nuts.
Man, why's the Dor all cracked up?
So Rao-less an' dang messed up?

Mmmm, well, maybe I'll never know.
Might as well go with the flow,
An' take a cool relaxin' swim
After failin' sweet Sarene again.

But wait--hey, if it ain't too late,
Perhaps I'll change my fate.
Just turn to chapter sixty-one
An' my Blue days are almost done.

Yeah, those pesky Elantrian Blues,
Oh, all my sorry Blue days,
The down and dull days,
Are allllllmost long gone.

lol. Yeah, I know what that's like. There's brownie ice cream sundaes in the break room downstairs as the "Friday Fifteen" treat--as in, we take our fifteen-minute breaks and go down and fight over whatever treats are provided.
Today I am resisting--so far, even though I LOVE brownie sundaes above almost all else.  I mean, gooie brownies, creamy, cool ice cream, satiny-smooth whip cream, crunchy nuts.  MMMM.  But I must resist.  The Dark Chocolate Side will not get the best of me today!  :D

Who knows?  They could make it a gore-fest.  Maybe show Aslan get skinned instead of just shaved.  Then throw in something about the White Witch being a Jew.  THAT would be an interesting adaptation.     :P

Sheesh, now that would be a VERY scary adaptation. Like "Narnia a la LSD"

I'm happy because I am eating a delicious mint-chocolate chip ice cream bar--even though I'm not supposed to--at 10:30 in the morning and LIKING IT!!!

If I die, I will die happy and full of sugar.

Hey, didn't you say something in the CONduit thread about EUOL being silly enough to request cookies when you can't eat them b/c of the sugar? lol

Yeah, this guy sounds like he's got a healthy aura of a Hollywood pariah about him! Very interesting. Of course, I doubt that his Narnia movie, if it stays true to the religious allegories, will create as much buzz as Mel's Passion did . . . .

That's great, CinderEllie. Do you write CSI type fiction then? Fantasy or mainstream?

Well, I write high fantasy, but some of my characters have magical abilities that deal with manipulating one's DNA--or someone else's. ;)
He can help me with anatomy stuff, too, which is really helpful.

Plus, my novel is sort of a mystery and so he was also giving me pointers on setting up a trail of clues (both real clues and red herrings). He finished reading my first chapter even though he's got a full 40 hr job at the CA State Dept of Justice, takes an accellerated EMT class, AND fencing classes. So I'd say that's a big compliment!

"I was talking to Fox and did say that the only thing about Storm that was better in "X2" than "X-Men" was that she had a better haircut," he says. "I have written her a very big role and hopefully she'll like it."

Oh great, more screen time for Halle. I'm sorry to say this, but since her first major appearance on the TV mini-series Queen, her acting has been pretty blah to me. Too bad. Her recent Catwoman movie was so bad it got tons of nominations for those "Worst of" awards--can't remember the name of those awards. Something like The Goober Awards. Anyway, I thought her acting was pretty forced and boring. So while I'm excited about Kelsey being the Beast, I'm not happy about this.

Store Wars was hilarious!! I loved "Chewbroccoli" the best. Oh, and "Ham Solo" was a nice touch, too, even though he ain't exactly produce. I just sent the link to a bunch of friends. Thanks Master Gopher. You made going back to work after a long weekend somewhat more bearable.

While Disney doesn't have the best track record for preserving storylines, I am still encouraged by the fact that Weta is involved. They do great work and I think what they do in terms of costuming, sets, and props, etc., really helped actors in LOTR push the envelope--to take things even more seriously.
I watched lots of the extra sections on the LOTR DVDs where they show the Weta people in action. Very interesting and impressive. So this gives me hope, plus the fact that Holes came out really great. It's a great movie. Still, there is the possibility that Disney could "sterilize" LWW like they did countless other stories, real and fairy tale.

Cinder:  You're in Utah, right?  I'm wary of sending off e-copies of books to people I don't know--since it would take them all of three clicks to stick the entire text on-line.  However, I'd be more than happy to get the physical copy to you sometime, so you could do an alpha-read for me.

Yep, I'm in Utah. I completely understand why you're wary of sending e-copies. Of course, if you did know me, you'd know I have no idea how to do any HTML stuff or make web sites. I know how to send and open attachments and paste stuff in emails, but I'm no webmaster.

But anyway, I would really love to be an alpha-reader. Yet I spoke too soon. As usual with me, I've piled my plate really high with various projects, so I don't have much time to add other stuff. :'(

And, actually, I didn't expect you'd be willing to trust an "unknown" like me with a copy! (Nothwithstanding my musical spoofing talents.) It's cool for you to offer, though! So I'm definitely sorry I can't take you up on doing a read--at least not for a month or two, if then.
