Books / Re: How many books/year do you read?
« on: March 11, 2010, 02:38:47 AM »
I tend to read slow.. usually 1 booka week sometimes it takes me 2 weeks to read a book.  And if I'm really interested in a series I can read 2 maybe 3  300-400 page books in a week.

Yeah I've noticed that with some authors in the middle of a series it can a little stretxched out.  Thanks for the ahead of time warning.

I do have to agree with all of youthat the name could be made a tad bit smaller but overall I think the cover is amazing even if the "Shardblade" is covered slightly.

Thank you Writer Dan that really helped.  I don't know why but I like to see timelines of when books come out so I can see how long of a wait there is.  I think I can wait two years between a book.  Besides that's probably what the wait for Brandon Sanderson's second book in The Stormlight Archives will be.

When I first saw the cover I had to get over myself freaking at the fact that this was the cover of Way of Kings before I could really SEE it.  At first glance it looks like "just another epic fantasy cover" but it's really growing on me I enjoy it a lot.  Can't wait to read it and stare at it once I buy it.

Thanks for the help you guys.  One of things I was worried about was though how long of a wait it is for each of her books.  I think I remember it being said to be a 5 book series and how long of a wait is there between each book in the Sword of Shadows?

Haha...well my favorite finance book would have to be "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" (though that's one of the few that I have ever read and was recommend to me by my Dad whose an amazing businessman).

Hey, I was wondering if J.V.Jones was worth reading.  I've been considering her books for quite some time now.  I was going to read the Book of Words series first since it was completed but I think I might end up reading Sword of Shadows first.  If anyone could tell me which series is more fast-paced and action-filled and which one they perfer it would be greatly appreciated.

Books / Re: Amazon/McMillan pricing question
« on: February 07, 2010, 09:25:35 PM »
My understanding is that it's Amazon wanting to set the price at which it buys ebooks from McMillan (where by "buys ebooks", I mean "agrees to pay for each digital copy sold"; honestly in my view the distinction is obvious and irrelevant to the discussion). It's not that McMillan wants to dictate selling prices to Amazon; that would be stupid. It's that McMillan wants to start charging Amazon more for new books and less for old, and Amazon wants to use its market dominance to say, "Nuh-uh. We pay this much or not at all."

I don't have insider knowledge on this; nothing I've read has bothered to hash it out. My guess is that just doesn't occur to people to bring it up, because it's obvious to them. I mean, nothing else makes any sense to me.

Personally I don't see the big deal with charging more for new books and less for old books (I would much rather pay $14.99 for a new eBook than $29.99 for a new hardback).  I believe that Amazon might have some valid points (I've not heard of any thus far but they might actually have a method to their madness) though right now I just think they're abusing their power on the eBook market.  I mean everyone wants to make money so if McMillian wants to charge more for the digital copy of new books and less for the old books it would still even out to the same amount as if they sold all their books for the same price.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: How did you find out about Brandon Sanderson?
« on: February 07, 2010, 07:17:27 PM »
I found out about Mr. Sanderson's work form a friend of mine who was going crazy over his Mistborn books.  I mainly ignored her until a year later she found out about Elantris and bought the hardcover and got it signed by him at the Colorado Sci Fi convention.  So then I started looking him up on barnesandnobles.com and made up my mind to read his books.  Now I'm almost done with Hero of Ages and can't wait to read Elantris.
