It wasn't until about a month again that I found what Roscoe's name really was.  I watched that as a kid, and all I remember hearing was "Roscoe Peecoe."

Cheating might be another problem.  From what I've seen, it's a recurring problem in CS, and if they can't stop it there...  Or who is to say that somebody doesn't set up some server, log on with a few friends, and just pads their numbers...

I think there will need to be some kind of reciprocal feedback system in place.  Or if nothing else, the ability to view the stats on your 'general' to decide if you want to follow his/her orders.

Just finished On Second Thought, and enjoyed it immensely.  Other than that, I'm mainly reading texts and articles for school; nothing to write home about.  Though I do enjoy poring over Wired magazine every month I get that...

Yeah, the thing I wonder is will the 'general' have some way to punish those that don't follow orders.  If so, that would, in my mind, lead to some very interesting questions...  I know at least, if you don't 'obey', the general might not call in an air-strike, or send you more ammo, but if there was some other way a general could punish, or reward obedience, then that may change things a bit...

Are those online games, though?  Does the person control AI, or actual people.

I'm thinking about trying to do some official research on this.  That way I can get credit for school, and play Battlefield 2.  Oh, and it's a tax write-off...  :)

Site News / Re: Introduce yourself - right on!

Hello...

My name is Matthew Buckley...  Sort of.  That is my pen name, anyway.  My real name is Marion Jensen.  I work at Weber State University in the online department, as well as with OSLO, a research group up at Utah State.  I'm currently working on my Ph. D.

I've got one book, coming out in June through Covenant Communications, hence the pen name.  The title is TBD.  It is my first book, and though I've got a good idea and outline for a second, I have yet to put finger to keys, as it were.  Too much school and work (I work three jobs, and it's a bit much).

I'm married, and have 4 boys.

I was directed to this site by Stacer, and have exchanged several e-mails with HoM.  He was very helpful in answering all of my many questions about Covenant.

So HoM, I'm curious, did they accept your title on your first book?

I'm also working with Covenenant, and thought I had a great title.  Alas, I don't think the committee is even considering my original one.  I was wondering how much of a shot I had if I tried to 'argue my case'...

I'm pretty new here, but just heard about Battlefield 2, made by the same folks as Battlefield 1942, vietnam, etc.  Anyway, there is a new twist to the game.  After you move up rank sufficiently, you can take on the role of a general who doesn't actually play in the first-person shooter role, rather they have a 'god view'.  They watch where their team is (up to 32 players), can send in more ammo, call in air strike, etc.

I'm interested to see how it all plays out.  In Counter-Strike, I've seen people try to get folks to work together.  And it seems when you have folks with a plan, things go much better for all involved.  But almost without exception, everybody ignores the person trying to take on the leadership role.  It will be interesting to see if by having this role that allows a player to see the whole picture, other players will actually follow orders and work together as a team.

Anyway, comes out in June.  Looks to be pretty fun.  There is an article in Wired magazine on it, and the article may even be online by now.

I'm sure this is quite late, but my brother has it, and we enjoy it quite a bit.  Not my favorite, but I like it enough to think about buying it myself...
