2nd edition D@D I believe took out the experience from gold unless you used optional rules and were one of the few class that received that adjustment bards and thieves I think  (it's been a long time).

You also should consider in 1st addition like other additions there are many DMs that never use a dungeon module so whats listed in an average dungeon module probably isn't what many players recieved in their 1st edition experiences. This is especially true when running games based on themes such as primitive tribes.

Most DMs  were not and are not as generous with self made adventures as  the store bought adventures are.

Usually I am not watching players rolls thats my DM style, but I am not going to cry if a DM wants me to throw dice in a designated area because it is a legitimate request thats not much or any real inconvenience (like running a game can be). When my friends give a DM a hard time about rolling in a bowl, box, or on a table it's usually ego thats the issue not logic. If I could read their thoughts I think Mike would sound like this >:( "I'm not a child, I am not going to roll where you want me to and there is nothing you can do about it you angry old dungeon master!!!!"

I have run many a game  of CoC it's my favorite system if you pretend the d20 version does not exist. The concept of CoC using levels makes me nauseous (if a possessed 7 year old shoots you with a shotgun you should die I don't care how much experience you've accumulated) . I love many versions of D@D but keep it out of my Cuthulhubutter.

It's initially difficult to get players to take the plunge into a game where death comes so easily but once they experience that edge of their seat excitement and creep factor that comes from a well run Call of Cuthulhu game they can't get enough even if there on character number three.

A quote from me "Call of Cuthulhu is not about if your character dies but how your character dies ;D"

Don't get me wrong I have run plenty of CoC games with characters that survived but they never take walking into a creepy old shack for granted.

Great system

To many of the old game systems sold out and jumped on the d20 bandwagon losing their individual feel, I am so glad gurps didn't. Don't get me wrong I love a good game of D@D but when Call of Cthulhu changed over to the d20 system part of the gamer in me died  ;D.

I am almost done converting the allomancy magic system from Mistborn to GURPS rules, it is working out very well. I am kind of disappointed Mistborn is going to be officially released as a D20 system I think it would be better served with gurps.

There is no better narrator than Michael Kramer
Rubbish. Kramer is no more than decent. The errors I described above are evidence enough.

Patrick Tull is awesome.
Would you say he is great as a result of performance, accuracy or both.

If Patrick Tull puts on a great show then I need to listen to his work and will if he narrated any science fiction or horror novels .

Just curious because if someone is accurate but sound like a robot or Pee Wee Herman I am not going to listen. I would rather some of RJ's to many to count made up words get trashed than deal with a bad performance. I think Robert Jordan who was fearless when it came to new word creation would agree. I might be a little more forgiving because I listened to the audio books first and did not have a preconceived concept of how the fictitious  words should be pronounced.

All I know is I enjoyed the hell out of Michael Kramer's work in WOT and Mistborn. I guess Narrators are like actors, for instance I like Jack Nicholson but I know plenty of people who can't stand him.

There is no better narrator than Michael Kramer and this is coming from an audio book junkie. I admit some narrators come close to or match his skills but I would not want anyone else to read the part of Kelsier or Rand.

38
Lets just say I whent out and bought the Mistborn series after I read The Gathering Storm.

Note:
I love the WOT books because I always felt Robert Jordan was going to wright the books the way he thought they should be told and never caved to those readers who constantly scream I want it now I want it now!!!!!!

When using Feruchemy to increase abilities does it take more of a Feruchemist’s energy reserve to gain the same ability increase bonus at higher levels of use? Let’s use speed as an example, would it take the same amount of the Feruchemist’s energy to go from 2mph to 3mph as it would to go from 202mph to 203mph?

I was not placing the concept in any particular setting I was just throwing out generic hopefully entertaining situational examples. The concept would work well if not best in a fantasy setting. ;D

I will answer this question with a question:
Haven't read the Mistborn series  - Is it a waste of time to try to read the last chapter of The Hero of Ages?

I might be confused, but how was Preservation able to stab Elend at the end of WOA if it could only preserve not attack.
Preservation did not kill him and weather Vin saved Elend using the power from the well or feeding him the metal to make him mistborn Eland was never at risk of dieing ;).

Im no writer, but I was thinking along the lines of calorie based magic. IE: how much you weigh determines the degree of difficulty of the spell.

For example, a 200 pound man could not cast a spell that used up his 200 pounds or he would die.

The fatter you are, the bigger the spell you can cast, but you lose the weight and have to gain it back.

I love it because it is such a tangible mundane Source  of fuel, and brings up issues involving peoples Prejudices. A well written book with this mechanic would have allot possibility!!

People would study the process just to burn off calories to maintain there figure and eat whatever they want. Others would get huge to store up reserve energy. Also hitting them with some permanent or temporary issues like hanging extra skin when the 800 pound man creates a new continent and becomes a 120 pound pink koloss ;D. It could easily be foreseeable that being overweight would become illegal >:( (or cost extra for a air plain ticket :o) do to fear of what an obese person might be capable of unleashing on the world or more importantly the controlling powers (government). Those who control the world would keep the process secret while vilifying unhealthy people. Possible propaganda “Respect your body to show your respect to the creator” and “your body is your temple by disrespecting your health you disrespect the lord ruler" :o.

As you can see from this individuals (my) opinion who looks at everything threw his game master/dungeons master / keeper's eyes it would work fantastic. I would run a campaign using this mechanic the rest of you should wright the book 8)
