Well, the American release date is August 30th, so sometime before that.  But you probably already knew that. :P

Yeah, I knew the guy's name was Ati, but if Peter wasn't going to come out and say it, I didn't want to either.  I thought he, with full knowledge of Ati's name, was saying that he would be in WoK.  Oh well.

Okay, so it only lasted a few hours...

Basic easy run down of the Shards of Adonalsium.

Adonalsium was something/someone that at some point shattered.  It is now what we call the Shards.

The Shards seem to have affects on people and things.

A character named Hoid was present when Adonalsium shattered.  He is seen in every Sanderson book which contains a Shard of Adonalsium.

Any book referred to as a Shard World is a book which takes place in the Cosmere, the universe in which Adonalsium existed.

These include: Elantris, The Mistborn Trilogy, and Warbreaker, with The Way of Kings and the rest of The Stormlight Archive coming next.  All these books are in the same universe and connected, but in the background of the story.  (We're talking a few paragraphs per book so far, and always very subtle.)

Super Mario Galaxy 2, as of this writing, has just dethroned The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as the single highest rated game of all time.  I should be sad.  OoT is probably my favorite game ever, and I hate to see it knocked down to second place.  But more than that, I'm excited to play the new #1.  It lets me know that, yes, Nintendo really does know what they're doing.  Granted, this is entirely based on scores from Video game publications, and people's opinions can and do vary.  It's been out for three days, all it would take is one less flattering review to put OoT back on top.  But I think I'm okay with the new lineup.  OoT has held that spot for over a decade.  It's time to greet the new.  I just played Galaxy for the first time this weekend.  Time to make a trip to my nearest retailer of Video Game software.

All my info comes from Gamerankings.com.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Preservation is.....Brandon?

Ah, but in order to be a Mary Sue, the character must essentially be an avatar for the author to interfere in the lives of the characters.  Usually by being stronger/better than they are, or solving all their problems.  If Preservation were a Deus Ex Machina in the story, than yeah, that would be a Mary Sue.  What we have here however is a character who is so weak he can hardly think straight and even manifesting physically requires great exertion on his part.  Meant to resemble Brandon? I don't know, does he have a prominent nose? Mary Sue: Most certainly not.  I got a little lost.  My point is, Leras might be intentionally made to resemble Brandon (I don't think so though) but he is not a Mary Sue.   ...*Realizes that was kinda off-topic, glances around furtively and runs before anyone sees.*

Japanese artistic tastes could easily be different than americans. So an American style cover may not sell in Japan.

Mistspirit? That could easily be a translation issue. It may mean something close to mistborn in the English. I think that fantasy and science are probably hard to translate.

does anyone know how long it takes someone to translate a book to Japanese or any non-western language? Is it 2 weeks of work? 4 weeks?

Nah.  The first book was still called Mistborn in Japanese.  I think they wanted to distinguish the two, so they named it Mist Spirit after Preservation, who hangs around creeping out Vin throughout much of the book. (Both in Katakana, meaning just the english word, but adjusted to how the Japanese speak, i.e. MiSuToBo-N and MiSuToSuPiRiTo.)

Japanese and English have completely opposite grammar patterns and what sounds cool in Japanese can sound really stupid in English (look at poor anime dubs for proof of this) and Vice Versa.  With books this size, and checking every sentence for correct meaning (as opposed to a simple literal translation, which would be horrible), and then making sure you are consistent in how you translate you fantasy elements, I imagine this takes a great deal longer than a few weeks.  Granted, they can(and do) just take any new English word and put it in Katakana, but there's still the rest of the book to consider.
