Video Games / Star Wars MMO Design (non-SWG players take)
« on: August 29, 2006, 11:05:59 AM »
I would love for someone who has played MMOs, and Pen-Paper, but never tracked or knew anything about SWG to give their take on what THEY would expect from a Star Wars MMO.  I am mainly intrested in a new perspective... Something from people who have not had their ideas colored by the game already out there.

What Era would you set it in?
How would you deal with Progression?
How would you deal with Jedi?
What about Space?
What planet or Planets would you set the game on?
Would you include the personalities of the movie?
How would combat work?
How would the economy work?

Video Games / Re: Blizzard stops Console development
« on: August 29, 2006, 10:54:34 AM »
Screenhacking is just BAD  eticut at LAN parties and we usualy frown on it.
Durring the CPTournies and the other CS tournies I have moderated I always would DQ players who "screenhacked"
But if you set up your space correct, Screenhacking is pretty hard to do.
On a split screen TC  as used by a Console, these measures are impossible

As to Blizard.. Good for them. The PC market is going through tough times with all the Downloading and illegal copying that is going on.
Games like WoW and other MMOs have the advantage of mandatory online play, with a 1 use account key that keeps players honest.

Valve may have had the other counter with their STEAM system that verifies the validity of your copy even if playing singleplayer.

Then there is also BF2 that integrated a feature that required you to register your account key like a MMO in order to play online.  This is seen as a feature by the players as it vallows you to develope your player as you progress in BF2's multiplayer.  I think the original UT started that with the stat-tracking.  BF2 actualy has a MMO style unloick system as you progress.

Companies that try to keep making PC games the old way, with no such anti-piracy measures are suffering heaviluy and those who do not addapt to the new environment will go extinct

Spelling errors are infact transmission errors and I cannot be held responsible.

Spelling errors coupled with grammer are a result of the fact that I do not speak english but D66rish, a language of my own invention while it borrows much from english it is not the same and has it's own vocabulary and grammer

I am supprised that there is not more comment on this series.  Since "Empty Child" I have become a devotee and have even watched the entire second season (through "other" sources)
Doctor #9 is an intresting version, Very dark and less humor than previous incarnations (though we hardly knew #8)
However, given the backstory of what happened since we last saw the doc, it makes sense.

As to the Tinfoil monsters.. If you watch the 1st season, 1 old favorite comes into play... and in the second, another old fav is back... and to top it off is a confrontation that Galifrites have wanted to see forever

Ahh,
Yes, following the money up from many protestors and activists who themselves may have good/pure intentions and you find some very disturbing things higher up.

Fact is, there is a set out there who protes for the sake of protesting and they dont do the due dilligence to look deeply into the issues that they take a stand on.  Instead they show up at the rally, Pick up a pre-printed sign (Printed often by an intrest group with a divergent agenda) and just stand in line chanting the slogan while pattingthemselves on the back for being soicialy concious and unique...

Look at CARE and AWNSER's involvement in Anti-War demonstrations... thats always a fun money trail.
Or, the Anti-Hydro protestors SKAR mentions.  My favorite, though is the who Hybrid scam.  It keeps gas dependency and costs MORE to the customer... While making the auto-maker look like they are taking action

It almost seems that the hidden agenda behind many environmentalists is not to get cleaner repleshishable energy, But to eliminate the industrial revolution and move the world back to an agraian economy.  They use the problems of energy production as an excuse while throwing roadblocks in the way of new methods.
Wind
Nuclear
Hydroelectric
Tidal

All valid, safe and effective ways to produce energy.  All opposed by some wing of environmentalism.

Truth is, we have a population that can no longer be supported by agrarian economics, and for these people to get their way, Millions would have to die in poverty and starvation.

Thus it is a wish that is contrary to the betterment of mankind

Rants and Stuff / Re: Sign the petition to outlaw OPEC
« on: August 14, 2006, 12:55:31 PM »
Want vto eliminate OPEC from US day-to-day concern?

Fine
Build Nuclear reactors, Hydroelectric or Wind Generators to provide all electrical power to all states in the country. Shift the Oil-burden to automobiles ONLY.
Then
Build a coupledozen new Crude refineries and Drill freakin ANWAR

Boom, Foreign Oil reliance is eliminated and we can safely ignore OPEC as we work toward justice freedom and sanity in that region.

Personaly I have my misgivings about some of these measures,
Yes
Many chemicals when combined can produce a violent reaction.  Many in liquid form...

My question is,
How are they verifying that the allowed medicin (where the name on prescription=name of passenger) actualy is what is written on the lable.  Why couldnt someone get their prescription bottle of liquid codine (often prescribed for Tonsil surgey) and refil it with ***** (the names of energeticaly unstable liquid witheld)

Same with baby formula, They say that you dont have to taste it to prove it..
Are they doing litnes tests or what?

Tasting would be ineffective anyway, You gotta figure that bringing a liquid explosive on a plane is a suicide mission, many explosive chems while toxic, are not instantly deadly.. so what?  The enemy drinks a little toxin and feels a tummy ache until he sets it off?

Baby formula brings a second question, baby formula can come in a powder form... white, fine powder, add water and mix to make formula... Well, alot of OTHER stuff can be in a white powder form, and I aint talkin Anthrax either....

You can take measures and all, yeah I have no problem with the no-drinks, gels liquid issue.  BFD you get a free coffe in the air and you can get toothpaste, cologne etc from your check lugage and freshen up in the head if you need to hit a meeting straight from the Airport, I also have YET to see an airport where you couldnt buy tolietries.
I just worry that the seal has a leak.

Fact is, you really cant do much to stop someone who intends to kill and does not intend to survive... All you can do is make it hard to get in position.

The other Fact is that this is Wartime
The lack of fixed "fronts" is just the nature of asymentrical warfare in the 21st century.  It is an artifact of a very effective military that the enemy knows not to face us head on.  Thus we the soft-targets are the front line.  We all would do well to keep that in mind.

Hey glad it got published.
I sent this story to SOE President John Smedly and Producer Grant McDanniel to see if they had any comment on it.
I had been exchanging emails with them at the time and getting replies so I had hoped to get an opposing side, but they must have gotten tied up with the new publish work, as I have not heard from them in over a week.
