Brandon Sanderson / Re: "Death" of Ruin and Preservation
« on: July 05, 2010, 05:15:45 PM »
Something I'm hoping to see, eventually (and perhaps even sooner than later), is a timeline placing Elantris, Mistborn, Warbreaker, and The Stormlight Archive chronologically for us fans.  I imagine the Master will make us wait until he's revealed more about the events surrounding the Shattering and Hoid's plot, but it never hurts to dream.

That might be difficult if relativity holds in Sanderson's cosmology.

Or maybe it is stored in some part in the Cognitive Realm, where Ruin can mess with them at will.

I like this. I like this alot.

Moving on.

MB3 Annotation 57...

Quote
Ruin's consciousness—separate from his power—isn't a particularly nice being. But you can't much blame him, as there's very little that is left of the mind that once was. The force of Ruin has pretty well molded the mind to fit with the force's intent.

This supports my hypothesis. Long ago I said that when a mind is bound to a Shard, the greater time bound to it, the more the mind is shaped by that power. Points for me.

Actually, given the circumstances, it could be argued that Ruin was only able to shape Ati to such a degree because of Leras' betrayal.

You are a liar or a troll.  Some people thought the story was bad, but everyone has praised the graphics.

This is not the thread for a debate about District 9.  The important part is that you agree with me on Avatar: that it was an excellently told story.

Even the detractors seem to agree that the visuals were amazing.

I saw this in 3D, and was absolutely amazed.  Cameron used 3D to give depth, to immerse rather than to impress.  I imagine it must be similar to the experience of the people who watched color films or talkies for the first time (I've seen people who despised the story recommend it to other people who would despise the story simply for the visuals).

Now, elsewhere on the internet I've seen people complain that the story was trite, cliched, and unoriginal.  My counter to that accusation is that an old, simple story told well is much better than a new and complex story told poorly.  And James Cameron told his story very well indeed.

It wasn't as good as District 9, but it was up there with it.

I am certain that Hoid is/is-connected-to a Shard.  Why? Because neither Vin nor Saze saw a spaceship.

Douglas answers most of your complaints to my satisfaction above.  But I want to elaborate on the apology.

Egwene didn't have the Rebel Aes Sedai apologize for being kicked out.  She had them apologize for raising an Army and laying Siege to Tar Valon

Well, I think them avoiding each other for a while after Rand was forced to choke her is perfectly reasonable.  It was a very traumatic experience for both of them.

26
Min abandoned Rand?  The only thing that would even suggest this is a thing from Rand's perspective.  And he wasn't exactly right in the head then.

I agree that Brandon dropped the ball on Elaida, she seemed a much flatter character in this book.

Perhaps [Lerasium] could steal all of a person's powers, feruchemy and mistborn included? *shrug*

No, a previous annotation already said that Atium does for all the powers.  Unless you mean Lerasium could steal more than one power at a time.

I thought we had reached a consensus that the Atium we see the characters use was the Electrum Alloy form?

Dear,
WriterDan

What the heck are you talking about?  Veins of Gold is one of the best things I have ever read. The talk with Tam and the confrontation with Semi were also, I feel, excellently done.

Yours,
