Well the constitution was signed on September 17 1787, and yet somehow everyone forgets! The Declaration of Independence isn't near as well written and yet it's anniversary is a national holiday! Well there's my news/rave, try to remember.

Everything Else / Is there a market for an all Sci-Fi bookstore?
« on: September 15, 2009, 04:12:29 AM »
Yeah i know that the TWG community would be all for one, but please refrain from commenting if you aren't associated with the book industry or somehow in the know.
I was thinking of, after i graduate, opening a bookstore that sold primarily used books, most being rare and/or out of print, I would of course have a display for new MAJOR releases, and possibly a small case of limited edition materials... the leatherbound releases ect. also in that display case would be signed copies. Well is there a significant market, in a metropolitan area, to make a decent profit?

Everything Else / Words of the english langauge that do not belong
« on: July 10, 2009, 05:49:58 AM »
This thread will here by be referred to stupid words thread...because I'm lazy...and words that are ridiculous because they make zero sense or words that are just plain stupid are discussed...

i.e.
Irregardless...should be the opposite or regardless yet they mean the same darn thing!
Extraordinary... if it is extra it is additionally so how on earth does this word end up implying rarity?

Movies and TV / Transformers Revenge of the Fallen
« on: June 26, 2009, 11:54:07 PM »
I don't know why everyone said the plot sucked I didn't think to highly of it but it was average for a action flick, not to mention people are going to see it to watch Megan Fox (man she is hot) and the special effects (which are awesome). Overall i say the plot drags it down to a B but Dallas Morning News gave it a C...

Favorite scene has to be when the tiny decpticon bows down and swears allegiance to McKaylle then dry humps her leg for the next minute... and after that when the green twin gets his gold tooth knocked out

Books / Sci-Fi key authors
« on: May 29, 2009, 08:52:45 PM »
This thread is for the compilation of the key figures in the genre and introductory books to them not a list of fun reads... meaning if the person is less known than George R.R. Martin don't list them. I am trying to get a more realistic feel for the genre as a whole (I've always read the genre but i want to expand my knowledge over it). This is adult fiction only so please leave out teeny bopper books like twilight. Also please second other peoples post because without it I'm left with simply one opinion and since i am looking for key figures one nomination isn't enough. Names without a book are open to suggestion also.

List i have read or own and have yet to read:

Robert Heinlein- Stranger in a Strange Land
Issac Asimov- Foundation
Larry Niven- Ringworld
Orson Scott Card- Ender's Game
Kim Stanley Robinson- Red Mars
Rodger Zelazny- Nine Princes in Amber
Steven Erickson- Gardens of the Moon
Robert Jordan- Eye of the World
J.R.R. Tolkien- The Fellowship of the Ring
Ray Bradbury- Illustrated Man
Frank Herbert- Dune

Not Read not owned

Terry Pratchett- Discworld
Terry Goodkind-
George R.R. Martin-
Phillip Jose Farmer- Riverworld
Arthur C. Clarke- Space Odyssey

I'm sure i forgot some but whatever...

Books / My Read Through of Malazan Books of the Fallen
« on: May 20, 2009, 09:04:08 PM »
Let me start out saying please do not talk about things further than i am at... which is currently around page 200 in Deadhouse Gates. Felisin, Baudin, and Hobric have just escaped and are hiding in a cave; Fiddler, Crokus, and Apsalar are being chased by Gral; Kalam is off with Shaik's demon; Shaik has been shot; Shadowthrone's and Cottilton's identities have been revealed as The Emporer and Dancer. And Icarius and Mappo are off to find a broom to kill "spiders" at the monestary.

Books / Best Heinlien Book...*possible spoilers*
« on: May 18, 2009, 08:23:32 PM »
I don't know how to put up a poll so just say which one and why...

I personally love Stranger in a Strange Land because the insight to the human race...the scene with the monkey's and when Mike finally groks jokes is intense...
