Valkynphyre, I like your pick of Daniel Craig, but I think I would go for his Defiance castmate Liev Schreiber for Vasher.

Brandon Sanderson / A Confession
« on: June 10, 2009, 04:49:11 PM »
I have a confession to make. A light hearted one to be sure. EUOL twittered that he will not sign Wheel of Time books that he did not write, which I wholeheartedly agree with. They are not his books and to paraphrase, it would be presumptuous to sign books by another author.

On to my confession. Last night after my book was signed I walked by the information desk behind the signing area. A gentleman approached the employee and the conversation went something like this:

Gentleman:(pulling out a copy of The Shadow Rising) Is this author signing tonight?

Employee: Well no, the author they have arranged to finish the series is signing tonight.

Gentleman: My son told me to get this book signed. Where do I get it signed?

Employee: The line starts over there.Points to the 'end of line' sign

At this point I probably should have jumped in and mentioned that authors usually don't like to sign books by other authors, but I didn't. So, I could have helped avoid one extracurricular signing request but I did not, and I apologize.

:) :)

P.S. Ookla, were you aware of many WoT fans trying to get Mr. Jordan's books signed? Or were they relatively few?

Awesome!...and bummer. How many manatees wear a size small? :) looks like the other sizes are sold out. Thanks for the link, though. Looks like a cool site.

Ryos, I saw you there. I thought to myself "I have got to get me one of those shirts." Miyabi, firstRainbowRose and I were chatting by the bestsellers after we got our books personalized. Miyabi was #2 AND he had his Japanese edition of Elantris signed and numbered #1. Pretty awesome!

I'll be there. I'm sure Brandon thinks I am a stalker, but I have had a lot of books too get signed for gifts. I love his signings because he is so willing to talk to his fans.

Don't ask him to sign anything by another author, but books with his name are fair game. I have been lucky enough to be in an area where I can attend signings regularly and he has always been very gracious.

At the least there should have been someone keeping an eye on that and the other alarms with so many children running around. Hindsight is 20/20 though.  :) It provided some humorous times during the panel.

He was in your group? That's hilarious. I could hear them playing around in the hall. I was standing at the back of the room when he pulled the alarm. All I could think was 'his poor parents.'  The panel was fun. Brandon read from Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians. I wish I could have stayed longer at the signing, but my baby girl was getting hungry.

Thanks for the information Ryos. I guess that, in a sense, I am an Alpha reader for my brother, who is an aspiring novelist. Hopefully he trusts me.  :P

So, how does one become an Alpha reader? Not necessarily an Alpha reader for Brandon, though that would be fun. Is it best to become part of a writing group? Or is it possible to not be a writer and still be an Alpha? Thanks for your insight.

Ookla, by big picture comments do you mean comments on story flow, continuity, cohesion, and character development?

I'm with Bastille. I love to find typographical errors. I must admit, though, that if it felt too much like a job, then I would not enjoy it nearly as much.  :-\

I really enjoyed Hobb's Assassin series and the Liveship series was all right, but I definitely find myself liking her writings less with each new series.
