Brandon Sanderson / Happy Koloss Head-Munching Day!
« on: December 18, 2009, 11:51:34 PM »
Yay for new stuff! (see Brandon's blog) Also, is there a story behind Koloss Head-munching day? Is this Brandon's birthday activity of choice?
"Magic is what makes fantasy fantastic," someone says, "you can't apply rules to them or else it loses wonder!" I respond, "Sure, but if you want to write them you will certainly want to know how they work." Writing is all about execution, and I find applying some basic laws of physics to magic systems make them more understandable and realistic. Here, I'm going to outline my basic method for developing a magic system.

I understand her perspective, but that doesn't make her less annoying. But I honestly think it's a mark of great writing that I can be really truly irritated by a fictional character.^Agree.
There are now links to two different Liar of Partinel downloads on the first post for all of you to enjoy.
I thought it was a good book. No need to worry.
This makes me happy.
Me too.
For example, right now i am developing a story that revolves around the "magic" of a god "blessing" his people with the knowledge of how they are going to die.I like this idea. A few thoughts for you:
and if this is a religious gift how does it tie into religion? When do they find out how they die? At birth or maybe some type of coming-of-age ceremony?
also, within the society, how would this knowledge of how u r going to die affect how people interact? How would people know how everyone is going to die? Is there a public registry or does only the government know? Could people lie about it?
