Brandon Sanderson / Re: Brandon To Write Wheel of Time Book 12
« on: January 19, 2009, 06:46:25 PM »
The last few books are slower in the sense that there isn't as much action, but there is still a LOT of political stuff going on which will definitely be important in the last book. RJ has created an amazingly realistic world with many characters to deal with, and like real life, there isn't always something exciting going on every second. BS is not going to "correct" anything; he's just going to finish off the series the way RJ planned to. I'm sure the ending that RJ planned is going to be AWESOME.

My choice, if I could afford the auction, would be one of the Malkieri Nynaeve are collecting. I love the story of the Malkieri and they have  strong reason to fight against the armies of the Dark One.

That is a cool idea. I hope we get to see more of the Malkieri in the last book.

Phaz, I think that was mentioned in the HOA thread. But if Hoid is already in the series, then there's nothing Brandon can do about it  ;)

We're pretty sure Moridin was channeling Saidin, hence him saying he won't channel Saidin anymore.

I thought that Moridin was channeling the True Power when the balefire intersected because Rand was unable to sense anything. I guess that Moridin could have inverted the weaves, but it doesn't seem likely that he would be carrying around some inverted balefire. Is it even possible to invert a weave like that? Anyway, I  thought the reason that he stopped channeling saidin is because he sees Rand whenever he does. Not to mention his addiction to the TP.

OK, I just had a thought....what if Hoid is already in the Wheel of Time? I think that he's that mysterious darkfriend beggar Old Cully. So....Lews Therin will overcome Rand and kick his soul out of his body, and then Rand's soul is going to take over Old Cully and turn him back to the light side, and of course, when Hoid is on the right side all is right in the world.  :)

Or not. Either way, we've got to get Hoid in there somewhere. It will be bigger than when we found out that Bela is the Creator!

Please, Brandon! Pick Hoid!  ;D

Edit: I just checked the site, and the bidding is up to $5,000 already. I think this is going to raise a lot of money.

If Hoid did make it to the book, what nationality would he be?

I don't remember any prophecies, but Aludra (former Illuminator) promises to make cannons for him in Knife of Dreams. (What do you get if you cross fireworks with a bell?) Should be exciting  ;D

Also, now that Mat is Prince of the Ravens, he will probably have some leverage to get the Seanchan to fight on Rand's side in the Last Battle.

Publius, I agree that is definitely something that could happen.

I also agree on the point that at least one of Rand's Warders must die. If you think about it, having three spouses for 40+years of life would just be weird. Who do you sleep with at night? Do you have a schedule for who sleeps with who? A schedule for sex? Does everyone sleep together (this would be strange)? And the children–first of all, there'd be a LOT of them. Secondly, they won't technically be siblings–they'll be half-siblings–but they'll all live together. They'll all share the same Dad, but have one Mom and two aunt/type/people and…it's just too confusing. I think RJ will kill at least one, if only for peace of mind. I hope it's Min.

I have some polygamous ancestors and what they did is have different houses for each wife and her children. The husband would just move to a different house every so often. Pretty much like Rand&co are doing now, so I don't think that will be a problem. If any of his wives get axed though, I'm voting for Elayne.

I especially like how you've drawn the mist cloak. And I like the rest of it.

I would love to read it too, but I'm not at BYU anymore...  :-\

A channeler can lift up a mountain and bring it down on the Mistborns head, yet for some reason they never do it in the books.

I'm pretty sure that no channeler is strong enough to pick up a mountain with the power...there are limits.

Gorgeous! I think the background works really well. I like how you included the infamous earring.

Good job converting someone! I tried to convert my little brother, but he totally one-upped me and told me that his roommates were in Brandon's inner circle or something so he got to go over to Brandon's house and meet him.  ::)  This is not what little brothers are for.

Rants and Stuff / Re: For Brandon - Religion (Potentially sensitive)

Wow, this is a great discussion! I just wanted to mention something regarding free will/God's omniscience. I took LDS Perspectives on Psychology at BYU a few years back and we spent a lot of time talking about agency. Basically there are two schools of thought regarding God's omniscience, with several general authorities falling in either category.

1. God knows everything that is going to happen as in he can see the future, but we cannot see the future so we still have free will. God exists outside of time and past, present, and future are as one to him.

2. God cannot SEE the future, but he is omniscient in the sense that he is so intelligent and knows us so well, that he can predict very accurately what will happen in the future. He knows everything that can be known. An analogy used to explain this is a master chess player playing someone who has never played chess before. Although the master doesn't know the exact moves the novice will make, he can make very accurate predictions as to the outcome of the came. This means that God moves through time in the same way as us instead of existing outside of time.

I'd have to dig up my notes to see if I could find any sources or quotes on either of those, but I thought I would throw it out there for people to think about. I tend to lean towards the second one, but it really doesn't matter that much to us right now in any case.
