Brandon Sanderson / Re: Reen's obsidian
« on: July 19, 2008, 04:51:01 PM »
Valid point obsidian becomes like broken glass when chipped making a very crude but good blade. the idea that brandon would make an allusion to such a basic piece of weaponry and that alone is its impotance is kinda weak. i would rather think that IF the obsidian is of any impotance its not because of its use as a weapon. unless vin gets into a bind and somehow uses it as a last resort weapon. there are unlimited possabilities and not that i agree that the obsidian is of great import i think it means something..

Ok so ive read a decent amount about Hemalurgy what it actually is still seems to evade me. i understand that the reality of what it is is still un-known, but if someone could give me the best guess so i have somewhere do go from when the topic comes up i would apreciate it. it apparently has to do with blood and projecting voices into peoples minds. if im missing something please help me out because im lost.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Mistborn: Allomancy or Feruchemy? [ SPOILER ]
« on: July 19, 2008, 03:21:12 PM »
i think that allomancy is the way to go. I under stand that with Feruchemy you have the ability to use your stores of power all at once and at that point become amazingly powerful but, as someone already pointed out what does a Feruchemy user do when those stores run out? i understand that allomancy requires metals that also run out but let say for the sake of argument you were a mistborn fighting a Feruchemist. The Feruchemist would be able to alter their abilities for however long they have stored said ability, the allomancer can use lets say pewter for example for as long as they have a supply ( i mention pewter due to the abundance of it in the books hence the bags of pewter dust). so in reality Feruchemy does have some advantages but it also have very large disadvantages. while allomancy, at least the way i look at it has very few disadvantages. and im not just baseing this on fighting ability the argument is aplicable to all of the abilities it was just an easy and understandable way to make my point.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Vin as HOA?
« on: July 19, 2008, 03:10:30 PM »
While you make a good point, i think its possible for ruin to have created the prophecy. not that i think he did but that it is possible. the prophecy came from the terris religion and was brought about by the "world bringers", who are we to say that during some time in the ancient past that ruin didnt create the prophecy. ruin was obviously around at the time seeing how he was already in the WoA so why not throught the art of Humerology cause the creation of the prophecy that would release him through a prophet of the then powerful terris religion? think about it how are prophecies made? some "prophet" creates them. so it is absoulutly plausible that ruin may have created them seeing how we know he uses Humerology.

Dont get me wrong, i personally dont think ruin created the prophecy but i can understand the idea. i mainly only posted this for the sake of argument but that doesnt disprove the possability.

valid point. i agree that the only part of WoT that should be talked about here should pertain to information given by Brandon, its only right to not only make a new WoT forum out of this place seeing how there are already plenty of those. We myself espescially should give Brandon that amout of respect and leave this forum to HIS works. I was clearly wrong on this point

On this argument i tend to agree with Comatose. It seems plausible that Ruin weather throught Heruology or other means may have created the prophecy for the sole purpose of find the person who would set it free. the issue i find in that idea is that ruin seems to be able to influence the world in a multiple of ways like for instance the altering of text on paper and in metal minds, the opening of the mists to guid Vin. if this is the case then i only assume that preservation has some similar abilities. Possibly the mist spirit is a form of preservation attempting to force Vin to take the weels power and save elend therefor not releasing ruin. if preservation has the ability to influence the world wouldnt it adjust test aswell or maybe create its own prophecy? idk. well find out in october

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Reen's obsidian
« on: July 18, 2008, 06:23:37 PM »
I would think its right to assume that Reen moved at random intervals due to the Steel Ministry getting to close. I would find it difficult however to believe the obsidian some how aided him in avoiding them or that it informed him of there presence. The thing is we already know that the Steel Ministry wasnt full of super spys, i mean if Camon's crew could hide from them then theres no reason Reen couldnt, and as far as we know until Vin comes along there was no reason for the ministry to be perticularly interested in him. Now i understand that there is alot about Reen we dont know such as the reason the steel ministry would be interested in him but i do how ever think you hit on something with the obsidian. is may not be an item of power but it could abssolutely be one of significance. maybe that piece of obsidian had something to do with Vins obligator father? or maybe it had been fashined as an indication of. . .  i dont know the significane but i can feel that its probably important. my bad on my BUSHY imput

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Brandon To Write Wheel of Time Book 12
« on: July 18, 2008, 06:00:54 PM »
lol oh yes his reader list will explode. Even die-hard Wheel fans will become Sanderson fans  ;D

This is very true. i personaly dont consider myself a die hard WOT fan. ive read the books once and dont get me wrong i loved every one, but only reading them once i often have a hard time remembering facts. the thing is the only reason i am a member of this forum is because of Brandon Sandersons announcment of being the writer of AMoL. i read MB1 and MB2 shortly after and now im reading Elantris. I have to say i love his stuff and even though initially i was (and dont get me wrong still am) very upset about RJ's passing, at least now i feel confident in the ability of the new author in carrying the torch for such a great man.

This is probably the beast thread ive ever had the time to read all the way through. its kinda humbling to find the people we look up to for their ability to creat these types of images and writing, conversing from the same level. I find it funny to think that all these artists are on this forum because of how much they like Mr. Sandersons work but as you have probably noticed if you have read this thread, its fairly obviouse that he has become a fan of their art. The ability to watch follow and read these people with great talent at what they do talk to one another about thier skills and what they love is actualy very refreshing. im very new to this whole forum thing this is the first time ive joined one on subject matter so i find this thread alone to be the biggest reason to become a more involved member.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: WOT/Moraine's Letter to Thom
« on: July 18, 2008, 12:14:44 AM »
Ok your right they did wrap up the letter i knew thats how i was aware of her loving him, i dont agree that wheel of time books souldnt be talked about here. i understand that WOT are jordans books and Brandon doesnt want people to think of this last one as his but the point is he is the author and he does have privilaged information. He is probably one of only a few people who know whats going to happen and has a direct effect on our reading expierience. honestly i dont think theres a better place to talk about it, all of those other WOT forums are years old and ther is nothing new going on. here there are new sanderson fans every day and they are excited about the things hes working on. im sure brandon will soon be converting the new generation of fantasy fans to WOT fans soon enouph. until then your gonna have to realize that this forum will probably change alot when the wheel of time release date starts getting closer. Plus im greedy i like this fan group and this forum and this is the place new info will be released if any ever is so why not talk about it. Brandon was obviously a fan so i dont see why its discraceful he would have similar points of view as many of us

Brandon Sanderson / WOT/Moraine's Letter to Thom
« on: July 17, 2008, 11:15:32 PM »
Ok so recently I have been told to try not to start new threads, instead just read the old threads and you will find alot of your question answered or at least debated. Now this absolutly holds true for any of Brandons original works, but what about Wheel Of Time. I really would like to talk about one of the most anticipated books of our time. Listen i understand the wait for MB3 is hard to deal with, Im aware I became a fan of Brandons because of his selection to Robert Jordans epic series. I would love to have a copy of MB3 in my hand right now but the reality is that i have personaly been waiting for the conclusion to the WOT much longer than I have for MB3 and to add the death of RJ into the mix I thought all hope was lost. Now i find Brandon to be an impressivly competant writer and im excited again about what might happen with WOT.

Ok so now that im done with that ramble. . .  My friend just recently started reading the WOT and he is currently reading Lord of Chaos. He finds it amusing to ask me question about things that he doesnt know yet because he knows i wont ruin it for him. The funny thing is he brought up a question that ive been thinking about for ever. What did Moraine's letter to Thom say? Now dont call me out im a little rusty on the facts but im pretty sure Moraine told Thom that she loved him. Im gonna research it tonight but i want to hear what every one has to say. Its not hard to realize that this is a MB/WARBREAKER forum so lets talk about one of the  biggest books of our time.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Brandon's new paperback releases
« on: July 17, 2008, 05:24:52 PM »
I have found all of Brandons books at both Barnes and Nobles and Boarders in the area im from im Massachusetts. I was fairly surprised at this because in the past i have had issues with finding books from authors at either location and i figured due to Brandon being a fairly new author they would have a small selection. needless to say i was plesantly surprised.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: HOA Prophecy?
« on: July 17, 2008, 04:06:44 PM »
I think I agree about the original force behind the prophecy not being Preservation, due to the fact that it would mention using the power to prevent Ruins release. The only snag I find is that if ruin can affect the prophecy while being bound in the well of ascention how is it that Preservation affects the world? If you have read the prologue to HOA then you are aware that once released Ruin can control the inquisitors. Do you think that through Hermuology that Preservation may have been the voice that was heard by Zane and possibly Vin's mother? The idea is that if Ruin could alter the prophecy and preservation is a like power of some sort, why would preservation not do the same thing and alter the prophecy to aid itself by making the person who made it to the well of ascension use the power?

Brandon Sanderson / HOA Prophecy?
« on: July 17, 2008, 02:55:29 PM »
So here is a question that I’ve been kickin around for some time and I can’t seem to get anywhere with it. Since MB1 there has always been this understanding that some prophetic person (at the time it was the Lord Ruler) fulfilled some ancient prophecy written by followers of a lost religion. We come to find out that the Lord Ruler isn’t the man the prophecy intended to reach the Well of Ascension but in the context of this argument that’s irrelevant. The idea is that we have all been captured by a lie that was concocted by an ancient sentient force. To really understand this people have come to question the validity of the prophecy it self (couldn’t the well spirit have just written the prophecy to cause someone who meets the right characteristics to set it loose?). At the end of MB2 Sazed leads us to believe however that the spirit changed an existing prophecy to meet its own ends. So this leaves the question of what force delivered the prophecy that was intended to aid in the finding of the HOA. If the well spirit is a sentient force and somehow altered an existing prophecy what force created the prophecy in the first place and for what purpose?

Understand that this is a rambling question and at times it’s difficult for me to effectively express myself in a forum. Confusion is understandable.

Brandon Sanderson / New Sanderson Reader via WOT
« on: July 02, 2008, 02:23:13 AM »
I found this site after going over Brandons page. After Robert Jordan's passing i found myself in a kinda depressed anger. At the time i found out about his passing due to my brother thinking it funny to send me a picture text of the headline because he knew i was reading the WOT. So right off the bat i was kinda pissed. I then realized that the series i had spent so long following came to an abrupt stop right at the end. That was deeply depressing, knowing that the man who created this thing that i loved had passed away before he had the chance to finish it hit me like a brick. So i distanced myself from the whole thing,i heard they announced a writer who was going to finish the series and i didnt care because it wasnt RJ. eventually i decided to look up the new author. i have to say i havnt read any of Brandon's work but im now very interested in doing so. The book break downs he posted showed how much he actually cared about this project. it showed he knows how much this matters to so many people, i find that to be the most important thing in selecting the new author. after going over some of your posts on this site im interested in finding out more about his writings.
