The inquisitors could possibly be dead in the first place...

I know Comatose already pretty much refuted this, but I have one more reason they're not dead and controled by TLR: they clearly can think independently, when they scheme to overthrow the obligators, and also when they torture Reen and disagree about whether he is lying.  If they were all completely controlled by a single power (either TLR or Ruin), it doesn't make sense that they would have either individual ambition, or differences of opinion among themselves.

In saying this, I'm not disagreeing with the idea that after TLR's death, they become more completely controlled by Ruin.  We see very little of Inquisitors in MB2, so it's very hard to tell what they're doing, why, and under whose control.  But I still don't think they're actually dead.

On another tangent, is there such a thing as a female Inquisitor?  If so, why haven't we seen any?  If not, why not?

We need to distinguish between the author creating the Ashmounts intentionally and TLR creating them intentionally.

Clearly, the author put them in there for a reason, since authors don't generally add details without a purpose.  Sanderson's purpose could just be the dismal setting, but (as has been discussed) the proper names may be a clue that there's more to them than that.  Another clue is that "ash" is the very first word in the first book.  I don't know what this purpose may turn out to be, though.  I haven't seen any evidence yet that the ash is sentient or responsive to certain people or magics, the way the mists seem to be.  Nor do I know of any correlation between heavy and light ashfalls and the other events.

As for TLR, I agree with those who said the Ashmounts were just an unintended side effect of his re-making the landscape.  He clearly didn't love the ash that much - as I recall, he kept Kredik Shaw and his own clothing quite clean, and also had the skaa sweep the ash out of Luthadel.

Channeler - they have much more organized societies.  Although, I have to admit that a Mistcloak sounds cooler than an Aes Sedai shawl.  But what keeps the ribbons from getting tangled?  Are they some synthetic fabric?

I completely agree about everyone having a different Snapping threshold.  In fact, I might take it a step further and say that for a given person, the trauma that causes Snapping may not necessarily even be the most traumatic event in his life to date.  That is, a person may not Snap until he is somehow ready to Snap, then when the right trauma comes along, it happens.
