Everyday so many violent movies are unleashed on to the so called innocent public. Don't you feel that people have already been desanitised to all the violence and gore. Do you really believe that pixelated gore is going to make any real difference when there is enough reel life stuff to do that. LOL :D at the LAW EXPERTS.

I think that the demo should be better than the build you guys tested. Afterall that's what beta tests are for- if you guys did you jobs right that is ;). Haven't played it yet though. BTW did any of you try the Halo PC demo

Shadowflare: Episode one plays just like Diablo2. Infact even it's interface is quite similar to Diablo2, the only difference is that you can keep a pet. The inventory system should be fimiliar to anyone who has ever played diablo. Some people say that it's just a demo. But I think that other episodes will be available for download as soon as they are finished.
Graphics are not too bad either. Infact it could easily be passed as one of those commercial grade games.
So that's it I guess.

Movies and TV / The Las Vegas Connection
« on: October 23, 2003, 06:38:33 AM »
What is the Las Vegas connection? Well it's a theory that is regularly put into practice by the producers of all the major TV serials. The theory states that if your program is becoming popular among the viewers or is loosing some of it's popularity, shoot an episode in Las Vegas and see those stats go through the roof. Almost every big budget serial shoots atleast one episode in Las Vegas. They start the episode with an ariel view of the Mega City with all it's lights, casinos and what have you. Most of the cast is present there even if there is no plot to wrap around the episode. Actually no plot is necessary. People will be so immersed in the sight and sounds of Vegas that they'll not even care about the plot. It's all about marketing baby. So next time you visit the Oasis of the West, you might get lucky and bump into Buffy or Angel.

Music / Online Music Market Gets Hot
« on: October 23, 2003, 06:37:09 AM »
iTunes for windows has finally been released by Apple. I subscribe to lockergnome newsletter. Toady's issue had a few reader reviews for the iTunes service. Apparently everyone seems to be satisfied. So what's the problem you ask? Well there is a tiny problem. Actually it's not so tiny and it's called The New and Improved(and legal)NAPSTER service. Napster has a couple of things going for it.
a) It has the largest collection of music anywhere
b) It has better deals on offer. They will sell individual songs for 99 cents each and albums for 9.95$. They also have monthly"Eat all you can"subscriptions for 9.95$.
Napster was purchased by Roxio Inc. after it had filed for bankruptcy. This is what Roxio's chief executive Chris Gorog had to say about the iTunes service-"If I were Apple, I would hate to compete with Napster. We have a larger catalogue of songs. Our service has more breadth. And there's no brand more powerful than ours in online music".
Other contenders in the market are Dell Inc., AOL Time Warner Inc.'s America Online, RealNetworks Inc.'s Rhapsody service, privately held companies like MusicMatch and BuyMusic.com. Even Amazon Inc. is planning a foray into the market.
Who's gonna snatch away the greater share of the pie? It's too early to comment on that yet. But as of now, if all you want is quality service, try iTunes.

The UT mission packs that were released by Epic had recieved a lot of praise-but they were free.
By the way Halo:Combat Evolved PC Demo is up for grabs at the Microsoft site. A warning though: The game will run quite slowly even on the most powerful PC if all the graphical settings are turned to max and the resolution is set above 800x600. So you best bet is to run the game at 800x600 and lock the FPS to 30.  The game engine can be blamed for this. Graphics are quite good(just as expected).
The demo can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/games/halo/downloads.asp
If you have played Halo for X box then you shouldn't buy this game-unless money holds no value for you, in which case you can give some to me.
PS: Spriggan do u really think that ppl who purchased the originaly AOM should pay for the  "12 new god powers, 15 new human units and 10 formidable myth units"?

welcome to a new low in gaming. Microsoft is releasing an expansion pack(that's what they call it) for Age Of Mythology. Essentially, this expansion pack is nothing but an add-on campaign in which you get to play the Atlantian God Kronos. So what's so bad about that? Well Microsoft expects us to pay for this campaign add on just because it's called an expansion pack-now how low is that? I'd say quite low. Anyway's if you want to download the demo you can do so from http://www.pcgameworld.com/download.php/id/4636/folder/demos/filename/AOMXTrial.exe

I just finished playing the demo of Restaurant Empire(I am a bit behind times when it comes to Sim games). It was a real blast to play. It has been developed by Trevor Chan who in my opinion deserves the same level of respect as Sid Meir. For those of you who don't know him- Trevor Chan is the guy behind some of the better PC games like Seven Kingdoms (I am a huge fan of Seven Kingdoms2). I would recommend Restaurant Empire to anyone who is tired of the Frag Fest.
RE can be downloaded from http://www.restaurant-empire.com/ while Seven Kingdoms2 can be downloaded from http://www.enlight.com/.
I also tried my hands at Airport Tycoon2. Now I have played the first one and can honestly say that it was much better than it's successor.

I certainly have high hopes from HL-2. That source code theft has pushed back the release date >:(, but we should have it by mid-2004.
PS: Has anyone tried Gothic-2?

The game is quite good-taking into account the fact that it's free. As the player advances through the game he gains skill points. These points can be used later in the game in order to choose a character class. Three character classes available in the game are-warrior, wizard (girls can choose to be witches) and hunter. So basically it's just another RPG game but the  price tag more than makes up for the lack of originality(no offence intended).

A game doesn't have to redifine a genre or or even create a new one in order to be innovative. I like games that are fun to play. I don't give two hoots about the technology behind it. Unreal Tournament 2003 wasn't nearly half as fun as the original game- it was just another pretty game.
