Okay, on a sentence where you skip a pronoun, what is the proper punctuation for signalling that skip?

Example, sentence A. with pronoun:
Quote
I swear it made a sound.

What I want to know is the proper punctuation for sentence B:
Quote
Swear it made a sound.

I understand it isn't correct English grammar, but I would still like to know for what I'm currently working on.

Thanks!

Personally, I add an apostrophe: 'Swear it made a sound.  But that's just my own way of representing this.

That's what I was doing because I wrote one sentence that sounded like I was addressing the reading rather than recounting an event. It was weird.

I’m glad that I did. I’m almost halfway finished now and I could see s huge difference in those first half dozen chapters.  :)

I started to read Warbreaker when I first joined this site, starting with the first draft. I got six or seven chapters through before I made up my mind that I would wait until the book was published before finishing (I wanted to read the finished product after cleaned up without any spoilers to ruin the story for me). Did anyone else do this, or am I just weird?

There were copies on the shelf at Books-A-Million in Oklahoma City this last Friday. That's where I picked mine up (I don't like e-books, they hurt my eyes if I stare at them for too long).

I'm a Reactionist. If something doesn't feel like it's working for me, I say it and usually try to give a reason why and let the author think over it.

Well Fell, you know you haven’t officially made it until they have an organized bookburning for one of your novels. It’s mandatory for all great authors.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Others writing Wheel of Time?

Finally, Michael A. Stackpole once commented on whether or not the world of the Wheel of Time should be expanded by having other writers writing the stories of, let’s say, Artur Hawkwing’s rise to power or how the Seanchan tamed Seanchan, and so letting Robert Jordan’s world expand and grow – good idea or bad idea?

Does anyone know where Stackpole said this?

I'm almost certain he said this on the Dragonpage Cover-to-Cover podcast. They've had discussions in the past about the pros and cons of franchising, fan-fiction and "zombies" (series which continue to live on after the author's death).

It's a good podcast (though I'm slowly tiring of M&M's harping on "new media" publishing, I like it better when they spend time talking about craft and new books  and interviewing authors). In fact, it's where I discovered Brandon Sanderson, when he was promoting Mistborn as a guest on the show. Also how I discovered John Scalzi, Jay Lake and T.A. Pratt.

So...you like it? I think it's a horrible podcast. There's about thirty minutes of mindless gibberish followed by two five minute interviews. I don't know...low quality IMO :-\

His joke was that there was nothing in Goodkind's defense BECAUSE being Canadian, etc. isn't an excuse for his behavor.

I just read the sample on Harper Teen. Very interesting. Not something I'd usually be interested in, but, especially at the point it cut off, I was very concerned about what would happen to the girl.

While I'm on the topic...sort of...is it just me, or does Harper Teen consistently have some of the best cover art amongst YA? I mean, looking at their website I see a lot of very colorful, eye catching, and just plain aesthetically pleasing cover art.

Shouldn't a book be judged on how well it's written, and not how much of a jerk the writer is? :P

I can understand what Bookstore Guy is saying. There are people I know to be good workers, but because I also know that they're jerks I criticise their work unfairly. It's hard to seperate the person from their work.

I didn't care for the Ender series and Orson Scott Card has like 4 Hugos and 2 Nebulas and Enders Game didn't deserve the Nebula it received...so yes he is well decorated but i don't think his writing is much better than a B rate... to me he is on par with Rowling no more...

Debating the merits of a Hugo is one thing, but debating a Nebula is a mute point.

The Old Man and the Sea was enough to put me off Hemingway forever...

Granted, I read it when I was so young that I should probably give him another chance...

That's my favorite novel (despite the fact it is in truth a novella), and I too read it at a young age.

I always thought the second comma was correct. The only places I don’t see using the second comma is with company titles.
