Thanks.  I do try. :)

I've been re-reading MB1 and taking notes on the looks/dress of the characters in Kelsier's crew just in case I get the urge to do a group image.  Actually, I already have the urge, I just lack the time and confidence in my skills.  But we'll see!

I understand.  That's why I said I thought she looked like a vampire slayer.  But I'll grant the artist artistic license and creativity, because that's what makes art so great. :)

Whoa... I didn't even think of the resemblance until you brought it up.  I definitely wasn't going for a Joseph Smith likeness!

Music / Re: What are you Listening to?
« on: February 21, 2008, 07:05:49 AM »
Let's see... the last few songs I downloaded from iTunes are:

Check Yes Juliet - We the Kings (gotta love the free single of the week)
I Don't Wanna Be in Love (Dance Floor Anthem) - Good Charlotte
These Hard Times - Matchbox Twenty

I think the last song I actually listened to was Bach's Little Fugue in G Minor.  Yes, there's a music geek somewhere inside of me... ;)

Ok, I went on this fan art rampage and did a couple things... I'm still trying to decide if I like it or not... and I really wish I had Photoshop so I could give it some color... but oh well!  Here's what I did with my weekend:

I thought it might be fun to do Elend, since he's one of my favorite characters and no one else has so far.  I even tried to put him in period dress.  But like I said, I have mixed feelings about it.

I don't know if I would pick up a copy of this book if it was the first time looking at a Sanderson novel though. It doesn't show any action, has the "bargain bin" labeling and almost looks like it might be a love story as opposed to a heist to overthrow the Lord Ruler. Might as well have Vin putting her arm around Elend with his shirt half way off and wind blowing his hair.  :P

Spare us the image!  It's like my eyes are burning!

At any rate, I think it's safe to say that both PB covers have their artistic merits.  Let's be honest, can you create something like either of those artists, because I can't!

Books / Re: How has your views on WoT characters changed over the years?
« on: February 20, 2008, 06:58:23 AM »
Way back when I first read the books, and then as I was rereading them, I always liked Rand the best.  I sympathized with his "I'm a normal, practical person whose world has been turned upside down and now I have to be responsible for it" attitude.  Then he started going crazy.  Granted, he can't help it, but he just gets so mean and moody in the later books... it reminds me of Harry Potter in book 5 *shudder*.  If I hope for anything in book 12, it's that Rand can regain his sanity.

I was never a Perrin fan.  He's too responsible, a little too "I'll always do the right thing" for my taste.  I hate how he has to deal with the prophet.

Mat is a character I've grown to respect.  At first, I disliked his impulsive nature that always seemed to put everyone in a pickle.  Gradually, he started to take responsibility for his role in the turning of the Wheel, like when he blew the horn.  I find it funny that Mat is now a genius military commander and a newlywed.  I can't wait to see the culmination of his storyline.

If I keep going on my analysis of major characters I'll have my own novel, so I think I'll just stop here for now.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Elantris *singing* instructions
« on: February 20, 2008, 06:44:27 AM »
Haha, this topic totally threw me off when I read it.  You had me thinking that there was singing in Elantris and that there were official instructions on how to do said singing.  I was thoroughly confused.  :)

Ah, the glories of similar words in the English language.  It reminds me of that study done where you can mix up the middle letters of a word, and as long as the first and last letter of the word are the same, you can still read it.

Yes, saw the last paperback cover yesterday actually... fuggly would be a kind way to describe the anatomical nonsense of the face in profile of that one...

I think that the anatomy works for the action being depicted on the first PB cover.  There has to be tension and motion in a face in the midst of action.  People don't fly through the air killing other people passively...unless maybe you're the Lord Ruler.  Also, I was always under the impression that it was Kelsier on the first PB cover... if it's supposed to be Vin, then I deem "fuggly" an appropriate description.  :)

Wow... Vin looks vindictive.  I wouldn't want to mess with her in her present state!  I'm take a direction opposite the crowd and say that it's not my favorite cover; the hardback cover is my favorite.  I dunno, she just looks like a vampire slayer or something.  Also, her daggers remind of of Raphael and Ninja Turtles, but that's just me.  However, I do like the mistcloak.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Warbreaker: Free Ebook
« on: February 17, 2008, 07:27:40 AM »
I have finished the Warbreaker and i really liked the book. However, I have to agree with rtm1981 post and some of the points he raises:
I also found Siri's and Suse's relation a bit lacking; in fact the book opens with Siri and by the end of it i feel that her storyline has been sent to much to background. I feel there is some continuity missing to her and Suse revealing to each other that they are in love and altogether I found Suse's character a bit disapointing: he's sudden transformation in the end not totally compensating for it (for example, if he never had spoken in his life, how could he suddenly now how to awaken things? were did he learn to do it?

Susebron is waaaaaay past the 6th heightening and can therefore instinctively awaken objects.  See the Ars Arcanum at the end where it says:

"Instinctive Awakening:  All persons of the Sixth Heightening and above immediately understand and can use basic Awakening Commands without training or practice.  More difficult Commands are easier for them to master and to discover."

Movies and TV / Re: Books to Films.....
« on: February 17, 2008, 07:19:30 AM »
While I'd love to see many, many books turned into movies, I'm always afraid that the movie will slaughter the book.  That's the catch with movies.  There are very few book-to-movie transitions that I felt did the book justice.

That being said, I'd say T.A. Barron's Lost Years of Merlin series.

Books / Re: What are you reading, part 3
« on: February 17, 2008, 07:13:47 AM »
I just finished Brandon's e-book Warbreaker and Ian McEwan's Atonement in the last week.  I'm trying to get into Robin Hobb's Shaman's Crossing, but I'm having trouble.  Terry Prachett's Colour of Magic is next on the list.

Video Games / Super Smash Bros. Brawl
« on: February 17, 2008, 07:10:05 AM »
I don't know if anyone out there is as excited for this game as I am, but my eagerness compounds with each passing day.  What are your thoughts on the game?  Who is the first character you'd like to try out?  The first one I want to try is Pit from Kid Icarus.  But if he fails, I'm hoping my trusty Marth is as great as he was in Melee.

Everything Else / Re: Random career question......
« on: February 17, 2008, 07:06:11 AM »
1. What did you want to be when you were little?

A pet shop owner.  This probably stemmed from the fact that my parents didn't allow pets.

2. What do you want to be?

A radiologist.  (That's a fancy word for the doctor that examines x-rays.)

3. What are you doing?

Studying biochemistry and working part time as an Information Goddess.

4. What are you going to be?

Even if I never end up going to medical school and becoming a doctor, I hope to someday be a full time mom.
