What the heck, let's go for a challenge.  i thought it worked really well for this scene because u get the chaos of the battle and the inquisitor's killing everyone. then the awe of kelsier fighting and holding his own against what was thought was an immortal. the panic as the Lord Ruler arrives, awe again as Kelsier gives his speech and defies Rashek... and then sadness.

I saw this as being the Kelsier versus Inquisitor fight and then carrying into his death at the hands of the Lord Ruler. It might fit somewhere else though. it's a great song.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Best Plot Twist in Mistborn *Spoilers*

Even though we didn't come anywhere near the truth in those discussions, they brought up most of the relevant foreshadowing and the existence of the connection between Vin, her sister, hemalurgy, and the earring.

I think we came pretty dang close to the truth actually. http://www.timewastersguide.com/forum/index.php?topic=5697.0   But I agree with you that it was more obviously foreshadowed than some of the other twists. after reading all the annotations and some of the discussions on here it kinda stuck out and i was able to pin most of it down before HoA came out. it doesn't change the fact that this is an awesome twist though.

Brandon Sanderson / Scadriel's Orientation, Geography, and Weather
« on: September 16, 2009, 12:18:00 AM »
Hopefully this hasn't been covered somewhere in the 60 pages of HoA spoiler thread, and if it is, oh well. that's too much to look through for something that might not be there.

My question is how the planet Scadriel works within the laws of nature.  We have been told that scadriel is largely made up of wastelands with the only habitable parts being at the north and south poles and that the mistborn series takes place around the area of the north pole. on earth, this would mean that there would be some very large effects on the weather, i.e. periods of daylight lasting for a couple month's and a prolonged winter.  but this does not seem to be the case for scadriel.  nowhere in the books is anything like this mentioned and the seasons seem to move naturally.  assuming brandon actually has this thought through somewhere and i'm not delving too deeply into an imaginary universe, how would scadriel be oriented in space to maintain the "natural" seasons?

Would it lie virtually on its side like Uranus and then just have an extremely fast precession period to create day and night? that doesn't seem right to me, so i guess i'm at a loss. any thoughts?

that's the paperback that i have too, and i have some problems with it (Vin a little too "ugly", the inquisitor just wrong), but i like it more than the newer paperbacks.

Well, i still claim the title of "first person on this forum who was not an alpha reader to come up with the theory that the earring was a hemalurgical spike" (i know, i'm in desparate need of an acronym) so even though it was completely awesome, i saw it coming.  also, sazed being the HoA was an excellent twist, but even on the synopsis on the inside cover it asks the question "Who is the Hero of Ages?" and with only  a select number of charcters to choose from Sazed was always a suspect. the way in which the twist was fulfilled was a hundred times cooler than the twist itself.  which reminds me... you left out one of the coolest twists in the series! OreSeur really being TenSoon. like the hero of ages, we were always wondering who the kandra spy was, but this twist was so expertly pulled off that i never suspected OreSeur.
So, with that twist not an option, i narrowed it down to Kelsier's master plan and the corruption of Ruin.  Both of which were just awesome. Kelsier's plan was brilliant, moving, and powerful, and pushed the book to an amazing climax.  And the fact that Ruin was manipulating everything changed the whole way i thought about the series.  it showed the Lord Ruler in a new light, revealed the behind-the-scenes, titanic struggle of the gods, and that was truly terrifying. i spent the year between WoA and HoA hating Brandon for being so cruel.
in the end, i went with ruin.

i also don't care much for the massmarket mistborn covers. it is my personal opinion that photorealistic covers don't work for books unless they have already been made into movies and the cover is an actual photo.  when a cover is photorealistic it seems like most of the time it clashes too much with what i have in my imagination. when covers are clearly pictures i don't have that problem. does that make any sense?

wow, zimra.  parts of that actually weren't that bad. altogether it was awful, but some of it... do u mind if i steal The Gardener as the bad guy idea? i might have to try this hat thing...

i think i both agree and disagree at the same time... somehow. because i have seen the mock up of the other possible cover for this book i was a little disappointed with the one they chose. i think the other one is in the fan art thread somewhere and it showed Vasher instead of "mystery princess", Breathing, Nightblood strapped across his back, silhouetted (i know i most likely spelled that wrong) from behind by a multicolored light. that picture was awesome and i wish they had went with it (maybe for the sequel? please?), but i still like this cover. the mistborn covers r just awesome in my opinion. sure its a girl, but i have no problem with that. they all have the actiony feel to them
