Books / Malazan question? *SPOILERS*
« on: April 02, 2010, 04:58:24 PM »
About done with Memories of Ice and one thing that's confused me is why the hell Toc left Lady Envy, Tool, and that crew. I mean he mentions that he would have surely died staying with them but I doubt any one of them would not have let that happen. He leaves them to join the Tenescowri in hopes to get to Dujeks army? Just really doesn't make any sense to me. Especially since he ends up not only in the Tenescowri but Anasters second in command. If he's just trying to blend in and get to the other Malazans that doesn't make sense.

Everything Else / What's that smell? Cthulhu you say?
« on: September 18, 2009, 03:56:09 PM »
A creeping, wet, slithering scent, dripping with seaweed, oceanic plants and dark, unfathomable waters.

Yah. That about sums it up, I guess. Only 15$ and all the Cthulhu goodness could be yours..... :P

Movies and TV / Coolest movie scenes of all time
« on: September 16, 2008, 11:04:12 PM »
I recently watched V for Vendetta and it undoubtedly has one of the coolest scenes of all time. It is the scene where, near the end of the movie, V dispactches of Creedy and around a dozen of his goons....

from IMDB.com:

Creedy: Defiant to the end, huh? You won't cry like him, will you? You're not afraid of death. You're like me.
V: The only thing that you and I have in common, Mr. Creedy, is we're both about to die.
Creedy: How do you imagine that's gonna happen?
V: With my hands around your neck.
Creedy: Bollocks. Whatchya gonna do, huh? We've swept this place. You've got nothing. Nothing but your bloody knives and your fancy karate gimmicks. We have guns.
V: No, what you have are bullets, and the hope that when your guns are empty I'm no longer be standing, because if I am you'll all be dead before you've reloaded.
Creedy: That's impossible. Kill him.
[the fingermen open fire on V, but he still stands after their clips are empty]
V: My turn.
[V proceeds to kill all fingermen with his knives before they manage to reload]
Creedy: [desperately shooting at the approaching V] Die! Die! Why won't you die?... Why won't you die?
V: Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

Great scene in a great movie. Feel free to add some more.

Brandon Sanderson / Sympathetic towards....the Lord Ruler?*Spoilers*
« on: April 19, 2008, 08:07:53 AM »
The Lord Ruler was obviously the antagonist in the first installment of the series but can any of us say with one-hundred percent confidence we would have done things different? We know he resented the fact that Alendi was the "Hero" prophesied by the people of Terris even though he wasn't a Terrisman. We can also assume that if it wasn't for Rashek, Alendi would have done would Vin did just 1000 years prior thus releasing the well spirit. So, can we say that Rashek was a stop gap between himself and the real "Hero of Ages"? Properly holding back the well spirit until the actual "Hero" Vin, or as someone stated on one of these threads Elend, came to fulfill their role as savior? It's true he did perpeptrate many a horrible crime but maybe the power went to his head. I mean really put yourself in his shoes. He stopped a supposed "Hero" from releasing some horrible(or so I think) power upon all humanity while all the while being told noone of his blood would be able to do so. Now he has almost limitless power and somehow he uses it to restrain some darker, than himself that is, power back from consuming life as it is known. My point being that without TLR or Rashek or whatever you want to call him would the world have ever produced a Vin or even a Kelsier?

Movies and TV / The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
« on: February 29, 2008, 11:41:01 PM »
Personally I thought this to be one of the better movies I've seen so far this year. It easily had to be one of the best acted movies I have ever seen. It's true it is really slow moving but the characters have so much depth and are so well portrayed that I found myself absolutely engrossed. I knew the movie was long but when I picked up the case after watching the movie and read that it was 2 hours and 40 minutes long I said to myself "Wow, it was that long." The people I talked to either loved it or absolutely hated it and the haters have a wide margin on those who loved it. I think most people expected it to be more along the lines of 3:10 to Yuma.  I just find it odd that there was so many who disliked this movie when I genuinely enjoyed it. What do you guys think?

Brandon Sanderson / A moral dilemma(slight MB2 spoilers)
« on: February 01, 2008, 12:02:55 AM »
This might be posted in the wrong forum but I got the idea from reading MB2 so I'm posting it here.....

O.K. So, I was reading the scene where Sazed gets nabbed by Jastes' koloss and it got me thinking about this situation. I was thinking that what if(although this still may happen, I am still reading MB2) those koloss just lost it and attacked Straff's and Cett's armies. More to the point, I was thinking about what Elend would do if this happened. The koloss are bloodthirsty grotesque brutes that would kill with reckless abandon, I think, and looking out over the walls and seeing this slaughter I thought that Elend might have a problem with that. True the koloss would be taking out two armies threating his kingdom and probably weakening themselves enough in the process to be beaten by Elends own forces. Although, him being who he is, he might send in his own troops to aide the human troops against the koloss. However, as I continued to read on he simply dismissed the thought, or so it seemed, and Breeze commented on how much of a good thing that would be....

So, lets replace the koloss with something far more evil, trollocs. Lets say your a king in Elends exact posistion but looking over the besieging forces one day one-hundred thousand trollocs engage the human forces and begin to lay waste to their ranks. Now tactically this is a good thing the forces are at even strength with maybe a slight edge to the trollocs due to sheer brutallity and intimidation. Thus, at the end of this battle you have the strongest army left standing and will be able to secure your kingdom for another day. On the other hand, maybe Straff and Cett are horrible men and get what they deserve but the soldiers are just soldiers doing what their king tells them. Which is by no means atrocious, I mean thats what kingdoms do they expand by use of force. So, should you sacrifice your own forces to aid those whom a moment ago were besieging your city or would you sit back and wait???

I've been asking myself what I would do in that situation and would be interested in hearing what others would do......

Brandon Sanderson / Atium question
« on: January 25, 2008, 02:30:38 PM »
This may be answered in The Well of Ascension but is there such a thing as a misting that can only burn atium? I mean other mistings find out after they snap because of the trace metals in the water they drink and such. Although, if your a misting that can only burn atium how would you ever know? I'm just curious....

Everything Else / Sword Fighting Prowess
« on: January 24, 2008, 06:11:17 PM »
I think I'm going to have to go with Rand on this one. For one he's taveren, things will happen just right for him to win, maybe. Two, he is a Blademaster by trial-by-fire, for beheading the High Lord. Above all else he is absoulutely fearless. Oh and by the way he is the freakin Dragon Reborn!.....

Now that I look at the choices I think Drizzt is automatically disqualified unless he uses different swords. This is supposed to be a straight up sword fight and his blades are magical....

Brandon Sanderson / The coolest sword ever...Nightblood
« on: January 23, 2008, 10:41:52 PM »
I recently read on Mr. Sanderson's web site that the Warbreaker sequel may be titled Nightblood. The fact that it even has a chance to be titled that is IMO a very good thing. For starters, I thought Warbreaker was going to be a stand alone book and the fact that there is a sequel is very neat indeed. Also, since he was even tenatively thinking to title the book Nightblood leads me to believe that it...well...has a lot to do with Nightblood. Which is absolutely awesome seeing how it IS the coolest sword ever! I just loved every scene it was in. The conversations between it and Vasher were absolutely fantastic. Especially the way it spoke the users thoughts like they were it's own. Then finally towards the end of the book Vasher finally unsheathes Nightblood and mass-laying-waste-to-bad-guys ensues! Fantastic!

I just had to get that out there. I know Mr. Sanderson has a lot on his plate and the sequel won't be out till 2009 or later but I definately will be eager anticipating it's release!
