Brandon Sanderson / Re: The 16th metal's power--Potential spoilers.

Nice analysis.

Not a big deal, but I agree that your push/pull analysis is reversed. Look at it this way...with aluminum you neither keep the metals nor use them, so you can't have pulled them. If you pull something, you have it, but the metals are gone from you. Duraluminum, on the other hand, are pulled in all at once when you use them.

Here is another idea for the 16th metal...could it give you the power of feruchemy? Allomancy as a power is a pulling power. You ingest the metals and get your power from them. In feruchemy, you place your own ability into the metal, in other words you push it away. Yes, you pull it back later, but the true power stems from your being able to push abilities into the metals.

Just a thought.

YES.. I found it a rather delightful read and knowing its still being worked on leads me to believe that it will be radiant when it is completely polished up.

Yes....if you can deal with the inherent grammatical mistakes in a rough draft, the story itself is a very good read. I really enjoyed it, immediately started Mistborn, and am much happier about the AMOL decision after reading it.

If Brandon has the story for a big epic in his mind, I am all for that.
I much prefer one big story to sequels, even if I liked the first book.

As to the thread title....
I used to be a big fantasy reader, not so much anymore. The one series that I still follow religously is WOT. After seeing Brandon got the job, I checked out his work and read Warbreaker, and thought that for an unfinished novel it was a great read and re-sparked my interest in fantasy. I plan to pick up Elantris after the holidays assuming I don't get it from someone.  I will probably wait until Mistborn until the 3rd book comes out....I hate reading the first couple of parts and then having to wait.

This is why I think, for the most part, book stores are outdated.

I know I can get what I want from Amazon and it will be cheaper, I don't know if B&N or Borders will have what I want and not only will the book be more but I'll have to spend gas and time getting there and looking around so unless it's a "I need it today" situation or someone looking for a gift that may not know the genre they're shopping for I see bookstores not being around for much longer.

Sure there will be those smaller local ones that market themselfs to a book sub-culture but most people don't care and will go where the best prices and selection are and neither of those are in B&M stores.

There is still something you are missing from Amazon though....the ability to flip through the book and see if it interests you.  Not that important when you already know what you want, but when you aren't looking for a specific title it is very important.

First, let me say congrats on the WOT announcement. Besides getting to write the last book of a series that you are obviously a fan of, you couldn't ask for better publicity (I am sure that I am not the only one discovering your stuff as a result).

I really liked Warbreaker a lot. I think it was a great read, and I am planning on picking up MB right after the holidays (assuming nobody buys it for me, is already on my list).

There were a couple of things that I felt were left unanswered, maybe I missed something so if anyone wants to point it out, would be appreciated.

1) What was Vasher doing in the tunnel and who followed him? This was a major issue as it led to Lightsong's path to self-discovery and Mercystar giving up her lifeless, which helped accelerate things. What was he searching for? And who followed him?

2) Why did the priests need an heir at this time? Siri thinks that it is because a stilborn has already been returned, but it was months before they even began pretending that she was pregnant, which means the stillborn would have been returned for over a year before they could swap it for Siri's kid, so it was probably already too late.
