I completely agree. That was one of the main reasons i was very sceptical about the oct. 1st release in Denmark. even though the lady at the bookstore really seemed to believe it was a fact :)

The danish bookstores all use 'Gardners' a Book Wholesaler and it is located in the UK. But where they get their books from i don't know...

No, it's not Danish.
It's 'just' the releasedate for the book in Denmark, not in Danish :)

Brandon Sanderson / Official Release of AMoL in Denmark

Hey - just wanted to share with you guys that AMoL has received an official releasedate . My bookstore has a date and i asked with some sceptisism but when they have the releasedate it holds up in 95% of the cases.

In Denmark the book will (according to my bookstore) be released Oct. 1st .

They did not however have the information regarding the possible splitting of the final book nor how many pages AMoL would contain. So, i am still a bit sceptical, but the lady at the bookstore assured me that when she had the information that she had, it almost always came through !

there is nothing wrong with them having a two-part title, is there ?

There is a minister of defense. 'Minister' relating to being in a team with other ministers, and 'of defense' relating to then individual ministers area.

Rector of Administration.
Keeper of Public Affairs

and the like...

The question is inherently flawed. It delivers too little information to be answered. But from a legal standpoint the eternal phrase fits nicely: "It depends."

It depends on who you are passing it off to.

It depends on what country you are passing it is as your own.

It depends on weather or not there is a contract, and if there is, (naturally) what terms are in the contract.

It depends on who it is you outsource it to.

It depends on what kind of writing it is.

So... i depends

So i could by... say Mistborn, say it it a work, and it is mine and thus it would be my work ?

Don't know Flower of Algernon, but have worked a bit on this deterministic approach, and might do a short story about it...

You could also call them Keepers. They Keep her isolated, they Keep the Empire running, the Keep the public from interrupting the queens study. But i believe desciples would also work :)

Yes and no.

There is actually a program containing several thousand characters + background, many hundreds major plot points and about 5.000 minor plot-twists. The program is able to in a fashion put it together, but there is still a lot of work you have to do yourself.

I have been googling it but cannot find it again, but i know it is out there somewhere.

I know what you mean. Why is she isolated ? I was thinking about giving them two titles - one when with the queen and one when they are not with the queen. or a title dependent on who was speaking to them. If it was a farmer, then they would ha a title showing that they were doing the business of the empire but if it is an aristocrat addressing them it would be more in the capacity of students/advisers to the queen. Just got fond of them having two titles...

But if they have only one title, consider the history of their job. Did it start out when someone close to the queen decided that she should have some help and asked some of the bureaucracy who volunteered. or decided she herself that those positions should be filled and had interviews before deciding who she hired ?

In the end, if the title seems natural in the story, it will work. They could be disciples, student, advisers, suiters, whatever - as long as it becomes natural to call them by their title.

Hope it helps

Okay. I'd love to read the prologue and the first chapter. Just send it when you have written them and i will give my thoughts on them. :)

Can you get to my mail-address through this forum ? I have quite some bad experience in writing it in forums...

Hehe... actually having read some of those history books might have helped :)

But on the sparse details you have got here, i can lead to something good. There really isn't enough to do any in-depth analysis so your guess is as good as mine. Try posting a first chapter or some more detailed descriptions (and be sure to clarify what the reader gets told when) then it would be easier to say anything about it.

What you have posted so far could just be a quick brainstorm that never evolves to a real story, or it could be great...

As to the magic-system:

I really like the eye-color idea. But you could just let people manifest a general magic and then let the training and thus focusing determine what way they go. So when you start your training maybe your eyes are completely white (a visual proof of magic) and after a basic course in magic, hey choose just 3 elements to focus on for a year, then 2 for another year then 1 or 2 years solely on one. So with any other tool or trade, you simply become most proficient with what you train the most.

As to the family-rule:

Gleaned from history-books i was supposed to read in school i believe that if you choose to have had a family rule a kingdom for 5 centuries, you would have to give a very good reason. It does not have to magical, or mysterious, but the reader should be given a reason as to why no-one has taken that power for them selves. Why has the general public not rebelled against the fact that they cannot own land. Why has the other nobles not tried to overthrow the ruling family. And on another note - why do they raise the people with magic to a status of noble instead of just making them 'disappear'.

Just a few thoughts...

I would say that depends on their role in the kingdom. (and technically it would not be a KINGdom if it is ruled by a woman) If their role is mainly a relation to her, you could go with disciple, but if their role is primarily in relation to the kingdom/population i would not do so.
