Brandon Sanderson / Re: Hopes/Predictions/Wild Theories for Book 2
« on: September 21, 2010, 07:23:25 AM »
I agree with most everything that was said, so I'll just focus on one point:  CAN I GET SOME ROMANCE PLEASE?  hehe  Ok, so there was SOME in book 1, but it wasn't satisfactory.  I'm happy for Dalinar and all, but Shalan's didn't really end well...I wish that guy was still alive--his character is so interesting.

I agree with the Shalan/Adolin thing--except I can't decide who I want her to be with.  Maybe Renarin?  (a love triangle would be sad, but interesting)  Maybe Kaladin?  That'd be interesting with his hatred of lighteyes.  I'm not really interested in learning of Kaladin's long lost love--Tarah or whatever.  I certainly don't want her to come into the story.  I don't know why--she just didn't seem interesting.  Especially since he didn't even think of her until the end of the book.  lol  She couldn't have been TOO important to him.  "Tien, Tien, Tien...oh yeah Tarah..."  I'd be more interested in that girl he was childhood friend with who married the old guy--by far.

I loved book 1 SO much, but Brandon's romances are always SO good--he's very talented at that...

PS If Szeth kills Dalinar, that'd be the worst thing ever.  :(

Loved it loved it loved it!!!

Although, I do agree about the Mat parts.  It seemed like Mat=Lightsong.  I still loved it, though.  I think he stayed completely true to all of the other characters, and mostly trueish to Mat.

I loved all the action (even though at one point I was like "Avalanche!" - but then it slowed down.)  Everything that happened was amazing.  Egwene vs. Seanchan was the best part of the book - - that and Verin.

I was also SO happy that my Gawyn is back. *sigh*  I don't know why everyone hates him.  I think he's perfect.  haha  I think Egwene should have kissed him or SOMETHING at the end, but whatever.  Now this thread has me all worried that they're going to break up. :/ (no, i'm not 12...i'm 24...) *sheepish grin*

Even though I felt that it was true the characters, I noticed I felt more sorry for Rand and liked Min MUCH more than usual (since book 7, I've basically hated them both).  We saw more of the internal workings and the girls (avi & min) expressed their feelings about sharing Rand, etc.  I wonder if I like them more because of Sanderson's input...?

My heart wanted Min to survive when Rand was killing her, but my brain kind of wanted her to die.  She really bugs me.  But...that would have been very tragic...I guess...

It shows how realistic these books are because of how different people like different characters and relate to different people so well.  I hate Rand and Min -- someone else hates Gawyn, Nynaeve and Faile -- and I ADORE those characters...

These books are amazing, and so was TGS.  Thanks RJ & Brandon!

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Warbreaker Error?

Also--the order/ages of the children in the royal Idris family is mixed up (I think).

Pg 25  "Siri ... was the youngest.  Fafen the daughter just older than Siri ... above Fafen was Ridger...and then there was Vivenna."

Pg 448-449 (Siri talking) "Ridger was right above me...then there was Fafen...after Fafen, there's ... Vivenna."

I noticed a few more things but don't remember right now :D.

Same thing happened to me (sorta...)!  I ordered it from Borders.com (haven't received it yet) and when I ordered it, it said Warbreaker, but afterwards it said "How to make dinosaurs."  The picture and the sku are correct, though, so here's hoping I get the right book.  If not, I will be majorly sad.

I understand this is a fantasy world etc., but even so, when I read things I always relate it to how I would react, so that's why I saw it as rape.  She was manipulative and creepy (in my mind) and if a guy did that to me I would feel violated.

I was glad when that story line ended because Tylin creeped me out and made the Mat parts a little less fun for me because it didn't feel like a healthy or fun relationship to me.

Opinions of things like this vary a lot in our world too, so it makes sense we don't all agree.

Sweet--thank you for your help!!

Yeah, Rochester is a very nice city.    I've only lived here a little less than a year.  It's really pretty, the people are very nice, and the freeway system is awesome.   The winter almost killed me though, but I survived. :D

And yes, I'm getting it shipped to the store and picking it up as it is very difficult to get packages delivered to my apartment successfully--and I'm scared to just go buy it on the 9th, because it took FOREVER for the Rochester Borders and Barnes and Nobles to get Hero of Ages.

But -- I have $15 in borders bucks to spend this month, plus it's in a much more convenient location (I wouldn't have to drive most of the way across Rochester).   :(

I wonder if it's a mistake and they listed it as Audio--it looks like the price for that is the same price as the book.

Thanks for your help and also looking on Borders.com (I thought I might be going crazy and just not seeing it...)!

Brandon Sanderson / Borders/Warbreaker help!?
« on: June 02, 2009, 07:47:29 PM »
Hi everyone :),
I was wondering if anyone has been able to/has tried preordering Warbreaker on Borders.com.  I was trying to, but they don't even have it listed.  They only have an audio version on there.  Has anyone else tried this/succeeded in ordering the book?
Thanks!

I read the whole thing multiple times online (different versions, etc.).   I don't love reading on a computer, but for some things it's worth it.  I loved Warbreaker--it was possibly my favorite so far--so of course I'm going to buy it!  (And everyone else should too...)

Rand is so mangled--it's ridiculous.  He's one of my least favorite characters, though, so I don't mind.

Ham would win all the way!  I think Ham would use pewter to protect someone or something important even if it is "dishonorable" -- so I guess it depends on WHY they are fighting.

Ham's wife insulted Nynaeve's hair or something?

Understandably, as Mat IS the best character.  But, yes, I see your point. :)

Um...careful with the spoilers guys--Joe obviously had no way of knowing about Elayne.  As for the Mat in book 8 part, I guess it might be better to find out before hand...but it's kind of up to him.  I, of course, read ahead to find the Mat parts and didn't find any.

Book 8 has other good parts, so I enjoyed it overall.

Yes, that chapter with Mat fighting the "mystery man"/Gholam is the one I was saying was like my favorite chapter in the series.  I wouldn't have told you who he was, but it seems everyone else has.  You probably find out who he is pretty soon.

I also love Mat--he's the coolest.  In the rest of the books he is still the coolest--starting with book 9 or so, I'd skip ahead and just read his parts before reading the rest of the book.  I'm bad, I know.

So--why are most guys I talk to ok with this whole "Rand loves 3 women" thing?  lol  I find Min EXTREMELY annoying and--I also find Rand annoying (like how he is insane and rude and all--not all his fault, but I just don't enjoy reading about him).

I know that Brandon doesn't write things that are mainstream/generic fantasy.  When I heard the name, though, it didn't make me want to read it--I was just like, "Hmm...meh."  It didn't sound interesting and it sounded generic/mainstream.  So, yeah, I'm sure most people have no problem with the name or love the name, but that's just why it's harder for me to get excited about it.  I'll still buy the book the day it comes out, though -- of course.
