Brandon Sanderson / Re: Heaven Forbid...but just in case?

We shall create a very secret society, more powerful than even the CIA and MI5, whose soul purpose will be to protect Brandon and family, Peter and anyone else with deep knowledge of the Cosmere, but more importantly, ensure that if anything was to ever happen, everything we know about the Cosmere would be safe, so his legacy may continue forever and to the end of ages.
Genius.

Shallan? Navani? Jasnah?

These female characters are strong and wonderful, but there's just not enough of them in the first two-thirds, IMHO.  Just read pp. 594-598 and that was some awesome dialogue.  Brandon sure writes those scenes well.  If the rest of the book follows the promise of this chapter, it will have been worth all the ho-hum.
To be fair, the first book is focused on Kaladin. Each subsequent book will have its own focus character, including Shallan and (probably) Jasnah.

And maybe Navani.

Well, according to Brandon's twitter, it involves a necromancer protagonist.

At this point, I don't think we have any idea what happened to Gavilar's blade. Sadeas might have his plate, but I doubt it.

I don't think we know.

Unless there's some kind of Alethi tradition that says a king is buried with his blade and plate, but I doubt that they'd do that. For one thing, grave robbery would become a nightmare.

That one already happened. It was when Kaladin jumped across the chasm, soaking in the Stormlight from the gemhearts in the Parshendi beards, and saying "I will protect those who cannot protect themselves".

1. “The love of men is a frigid thing, a mountain stream only three steps from the ice. We are his. Oh Stormfather…we are his. It is but a thousand days, and the Everstorm comes.”—Collected on the first day of the week Palah of the month Shash of the year 1171, thirty-one seconds before death. Subject was a darkeyed pregnant woman of middle years. The child did not survive.

1000 days doesn't seem like enough time for the series to take place in, given the bit we have so far.  I'm also a bit confused here, are the years 500 days?  (5 days a week, 10 weeks a month, 10 months a year)  And is a day in this series the same length as a day in our world?  Should we be multiplying their ages by 1.37 to get their age in our years?

You're assuming that the whole series has to take place before the Everstorm comes.

Don't you have to kill someone to make a Hemalurgic spike?
Or harvest from a dying person, just like organ donation.
Organs are only taken after a person is dead. You don't actually kill them for their organs.

There's no way the letter is written to or from Sazed, since the addressee is called "old friend".

Or the events of Elantris occured before Rayse/Odium visited Sel.
Brandon has confirmed that Odium's visit was prior to the events of Elantris.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: The value of spheres in WoK (no spoilers)

Looking at the quote saying that Shallan used all nine colors of sphere, I think she means actual color, I don't think she counts white in that, so that would be nine colors plus white, and so we're back to ten types.  This really makes the most sense.  I mean, why wouldn't they use all ten types of gem as currency?  Why exclude one?
It might have something to do with Talenel.

Please forgive me for ranting here.  I am two thirds of the way through The Way of Kings and I am only just starting to like it.  Is it just me?  I dare not read other threads until I finish it.  My main complaint in the first third was: Where are the girls???  Not that I don't enjoy the well-done testosterone-laden war epic, but Brandon has me spoiled for female leads and usually a better balance in the estrogen dep't.  It's starting to grow on me, but I hope the pacing improves for the rest of the story.
Shallan? Navani? Jasnah?

I laughed at the Night Angel trilogy reference in there.

I tend to think that one of the 10 people in all of the world chosen to become an immortal warrior who battles against the armies of a dark god is probably resourceful enough to deal with the local magistrate.
Just sayin.
I think that even an immortal would be incredibly disoriented after 4500 years of torture.
