I read it the first day and want to see what others thought. I don't know how these hide tags work.

I agree with your review pretty much - the book definitely has stretches that seem to drag and meander, and then race along. And as much as you want to get to the end and see what happens to everyone, you don't want the book to end, because it is the end. [hide]And I don't know what Rowling's talking about when she says that 2 main characters will die. As the body count climbed over the digits of one hand, I kept imagining the characters sitting back up, saying, "What! I'm not a main character?"[/hide]

My main concern now is that my husband finishes the book quickly so we can speak openly in the house.

nessa edit: changed some spoilers so they were hidden

Actually, Fell decided to move to  Seattle when we first took him there at age 12. After seeing the city he told us that  when he was grown up he was coming back there to live  because when you do,  "they give you a boat."

I hope he's not disappointed. :)

Claire's Mom, who has had her mind wiped several times, evidently, still remembered something odd about Claire's "chromosomes" when she was a baby. Did her father take her purposely because she was different, or destined to be?

I don't think that even Mr Bennett knows that the Haitian can speak - I think he's kept that secret all to himself.

But I think the reason Mr Bennett wanted Claire's memory wiped was not for her to forget her powers - they will just be discovered again soon enough, but, rather, to forget about all of the others like Peter and Sylar, and the fact that there are others and a conspiracy with powers to wipe minds and that her father is a part of it.

OK, I'm lost here.  IMDB says that Sean Bean plays Sylar and was only in the two episodes that aired last Monday and the Monday before that (10-30 and 11-6). But reading NBC's synopsis of the last episode, the radiation guy is Ted, not Sylar (and I know that could be a red herring), but also, I don't remember seeing Sylar at all in the episode on 10-30.  Plus Sean Bean is not credited at all in the week we saw Sylar get shot and then come back to life and get away.

This is enough! Everyone go to your own rooms! This thread is now closed!

And Fell, I mean it - close it now!

Everything Else / Re: Best food lately
« on: May 06, 2006, 03:52:23 AM »
I have had better food lately than anyone of you because I have been in Bavaria. We did not plan to enjoy german food, but found a dish called "Wiener Art" that is marvelous. And the spatzel. Wonderful. And the food in Prague was fantastic. I could go on and on. There is one dish I don't know whether to put here or on the worst food lately. We were in Bruges, Belgium and it was at the seediest sidewalk cafe I have ever been to - in the States, you wouldn't even consider eating there. The only thing they still had left to eat was lasagna. Picture any ingredient you have ever eaten in lasagna - it wasn't in this. We finally decided to stop trying to identify the various layers (especially the green one). But it was very good.

Fell thought he played a funny April fool's joke on me and the Big Dog. Mustard is now officially the favorite son.

If you want to see how funny Joss Whedon can be, watch Angel, season 2, episode 21 "Through the Looking Glass". He is Numfar, in the background, silently doing the Dance of Joy, the Dance of Honor, and later the Dance of Shame.

I have waited and waited to hear something substantive about my show. Honestly, it's like listening to Homer and Bart at the dinner table, the way you all squabble and can't stay on the subject. If someone could be a little analytical like Lisa and point out all of the social relevance or the moral overtones, such as the fact that we are one of the only intact families in primetime TV, that our religious fanatic is simply an extremely, intensively religious man, rather than a psychotic-religious-fanatical-killer, that our parodies stay spot on, that celebrities from every discipline line up to guest star or even do a quick self-parodying cameo, that even though the writing has slipped in consistency in the past three years, it still has more hits than misses. Please children, stay on topic.
