Dan Wells / Re: World Fantasy

Ooh, I've heard good things about Space Alert.

I bought Battlestar Galatica, and we played it with my gaming group. We only got 2 cards where Cylon ships entered the board. They were all clumped at the bottom of the deck (we fired the shuffler). I'd like to try it again with some actual bad guys on the board.

Will definitely bring Race for the Galaxy, as well as Agricola. RFtG is probably my number 2 game right now (after Dominion).

Well, nobody is bugging me. I'm not sure what to think of that. :)

I've just registered, so I'm more than likely going to go. I can drive, if needed. I've also got a van I may be able to swing into bringing. It's a late model Honda that seats 6 comfortable, or 8 uncomfortably.

I've also got a closet of board/card games. Make a request; if I have it, I'll bring it.

Matthew Buckley / Finished!

The final chapter of The Super Trio is up. You can now listen to the entire book at http://thesupertrio.com

I've had a lot of fun doing this, even though my reading skills leave a lot to be desired. If you know of a little person, between the ages of 5 and 12, please send them my way. The book is free. There are no ads. It's just a whole lot of fun.

Yeah, when I first started, I really didn't think I'd try to get it published.  But then it came together so nicely, I thought what the heck.  Then, I came across this article:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/04/05/DDS7VUH5M.DTL

Since I'm a fan of openness, I thought it might prove a good thing, both to share it with everybody, and maybe upping the chances that it gets picked up.

Either way, it's been fun to learn how to podcast, and so far the response has been positive.  150 hits to the site after I posted chapter one.

Matthew Buckley / My latest project...

I have tried for a year to start on another book, but it just wasn't coming. I had planned a third in the Headlights series. However, about a month ago I was lying in bed, and the idea for a mid grade reader just came to me. In about an hour I had the story worked out in my mind. I couldn't help but giggle into my pillow, and take notes so I wouldn't forget it while I slept.

Well, I've finished the book and have decided to deliver it as a podcast. I'm going to read the book and post it a chapter at a time. The first chapter is up, and I would love if you passed this link on to anybody you think might be interested. I think the book will appeal to 5-11 year olds.

http://thesupertrio.com/

The book is completely free. I'm not going to do anything like ask for donations, or make people pay for 'the rest of the book'. I plan on trying to get an agent, and get the book published, but for now I'm giving it away.

"Rafter Hans Bailey looked at the clock. In 12 more minutes he would finally be ten. And in 12 more minutes, he would finally be a superhero..."

So, if you know anybody who would like a good story read to them over the next three months, point them my way!

I play dip on another discussion board just like this one.  We put up maps so others can watch. One of the guys decided that he would post all of his moves, in advance, on the board.

Anyway, nobody believe that he would do it.  But he did.  And then nobody believed that he would keep doing it.  But he did.   They kept waiting for him to post one thing, and finally do something else.  It infuriated his neighbors because they would think, "He's telling me that he's going to invade here, so really he's going to invade there.  And then of course, he would do exactly what he said he'd so.

Ah, the memories.

Sounds like a very fun game.  :)  Was it played here on the board?  You don't have a record of it, do you?

That's a legitimate strategy, and one that works better than people think.  :)

Table-Top Games / Anybody Here Played Diplomacy?
« on: December 20, 2007, 06:26:27 PM »
Has anybody here ever played the classic board game, Diplomacy?  I've never played it in person, and don't think I would much care for it, but online it's an absolutely fabulous game.  I was wondering if there would be any interest in playing one here on timewasters?  I'd volunteer to moderate the game in hopes that somebody else would return the favor so I could play at a future date.

For those that haven't played the game, it's quite easy to learn.  There is a great little program you can download that helps you learn the rules.  What usually happens is you do your diplomating for 4-7 days, and then send the moderator your orders.  I resolve the orders and send out a new map.  Then it starts all over.  The game takes very little time (maybe an hour spread out over a week, and it's mostly replying to a few e-mails), and the game itself can last several months.

Anyway, if there is any interest, let me know.

Brandon Sanderson / Brandong headed to the chilly north?
« on: October 14, 2007, 02:34:27 AM »
I hear Brandon is coming to Logan?  Our motto up here is 'just as nice as the rest of Utah, only 40 degrees colder'.  It's actually not too bad, if you can get past the polar bears.

Anyway, I'm going to try to make it to the dinner.  Should be fun!

Robison E. Wells / Re: The Whitney Awards

Ah, but you see, my book covers everything.  I have copulating chickens (romance), murdered chickens (suspense), GI Joe toys (Science Fiction/Fantasy), the whole thing is historical, and at the Edith Bowen elementary school, I was picked as top author, beating out even J. K. Rowling.

So, I'm just going to feel really bad for everybody when I sweep the awards.  But don't worry, I will accept all 5 awards with humility and grace.  I will only use the words 'suckahs', and 'hosers' with dignity and eloquence.

You make up all 7 members of the committee?  I knew this was rigged.

Got a few thoughts down concerning the end of the world...

This is a rough outline of what will happen. It doesn't go into depth, but I'd be interested in other events you think should happen.

And then this link is more 'story form'.
