and the TTh sessions were around 30 students with a TA. (His name was Nephi Noble. I am not kidding.)

*does a double take*

Nephi Noble was a friend of mine when I was in college back in the dark ages.  He was an eternal student (ended up getting a PHD in Mathematics, if I remember right).  I think he left the area, haven't heard from him in ages.  This discussion forum is pretty much the last place I would have thought to see his name.  :o

If you want to see a verbose description of battle scenes, read something by R.A. Salvatore.  Some of his fights go on for pages.

Careful.  He may just send Schlock over to answer for him.  And Schlock tends to do his talking with his plasguns. :D

Good judgement comes from experience.  Experience comes from bad judgement. :)

It's very satisfying to be able to shoot the whip henchman with a crossbow, let me tell you. After all these years, revenge!

That would be satifsying.  The morningstar in the original just didn't cut it.  I hit him, he goes down, a minute later, he's back up again.

I'll admit, it is surprising to see an Overlord be Repentant, but I'm not one to turn anyone away who is in need of some absolving. Therefore come, my repentant child. Confess whatever Overlordish sins you may have committed.

Er, maybe in a bit.  I'm still quite new to this whole Repentant Overlord thing.

It's good to see you here Howard.  Folks, if you haven't read Schlock Mercenary, I highly recommend that you go take a look!  Just be sure to allocate yourself plenty of time.  At one strip a day for eight and a half years, you're looking at over 3,000 strips!

Oh wow, I totally forgot about him!! I was about to ask who died when I remembered. Has it really been that long since I've read it!!??

Memory can be a fickle thing for sure.  Anything I've done more than a month ago is grounds for complete forgetfulness.

Actually, my problem isn't with memory.  My memory is perfect.  It's the retrieval system that's a bit flaky. :)

This is a slight tangent, but one could easily argue that most Sci-fi novels have magical world travel.  The boundary between fantasy and science fiction is thinner than tissue paper.

Very true.  I heard a quote once that the difference between fantasy and sci-fi is that fantasy has trees.

I don't know that anyone who didn't grow up on the old games would enjoy this game very much. It's the kind of platformer game where you spend a lot of time dying and repeating things over and over, especially on the Advanced difficulty setting.

On my more frustrating days with that game, I would deliberately take the wrong key in the dungeon.  SPLAT!  Heh heh, good times.

Dark Castle!  Now that brings back some memories.  I remember playing that for hours on end at my local computer store (they were nice enough to not kick me out).  A buddy in college had Beyond Dark Castle, but I always crashed and burned with that stupid helicopter.  I didn't know they were doing a remake.  Thanks for the trip down memory lane. :)

Hi, your friendly neighborhood Overlord checking in.  Glad to see that the posts are enough to keep the thread alive, but not so many as to bury me.  That's the mortician's job. ;D

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Who was the Announcer? (Spoilers)
« on: December 29, 2008, 10:48:34 PM »
It's fascinating to see how the prophecy changed over the course of time, which I believe it might have even without Ruin's influence.  For instance, the church of the Survivor had the "Holy First Witness" (or something like that, I don't have the books in front of me), which sounds very much like "Announcer".

That's the other thing about prophecies too.  So many ways to interpret (and misinterpret) them.
