Movies and TV / Books to Films.....
« on: February 14, 2008, 12:39:56 AM »
Has anyone read any books that were really good and always wanted to see it on the screen?
For me I'd love to see Robert Jordans books made into films and/or the different Anne McCaffrey books.
Do you have a particular book you'd like to see or do you think all books should be kept as books and not made into films?
Do you think there's a particular genre of book that works better as a film or do you think all can get good results on the big screen.

Personally I find that Fantasy books are great as films but film-makers have the tendancy to cut out huge chunks and re-order everything! :(

Movies and TV / Re: Goodkind's Wizard's First Rule to Become ABC TV Series
« on: February 12, 2008, 08:08:34 PM »
Hrmph!!  They should do Terry Prachett and not Terry Goodkind.  I would love a Discworld t.v. series!!!!  ;D

His books are absolutely fantastic, really funny and plots that really hold the reader til the last page. I'm surprised they've not made any of his books into series, I'm sure they'd be really popular.
I'd love to see the book 'Going Postal' as a film.

I loved the books and I hope they're not gonna stop with just the one film.
I've not seen it yet but I've seen trailers and clips and it's not looking too good......
I first read Susan Coopers books when I was about 11 or 12 ^_^

Site News / Re: Introduce yourself - right on!
« on: February 12, 2008, 01:19:52 AM »
Hiya ^_^!!!

My names Hannah and at the moment I live in southern Switzerland (and for all you uneducated people I don't speak swiss ( as it's not a language) but italian) and have done for the past  two and a half years. I'm a typical red head with fair skin and blue eyes and a tendancy to fry in the sun. At the moment I'm 19 going 20 in June and I'm studying in some weird art college which does a range of subjects from:
Observational Drawing
Technical Drawing
Theory or Form and Colour
to
German, English and Italian
History of Art and History
etc.....
I love painting, drawing and listening to music. I'm addicted to rock and metal - especially Within Temptation and Kamelot at the moment. Though it can really change!!
I live with my very large and noisy family and never have peace and quiet!!
I joined this site when I followed link after link to here after I found out about the new author for The Wheel of Time.
I'm from England and travelled around before coming here (following my dad's work lol) and enjoy photographing the surrounding area which is spectacular!
I love manga and have found a fantastic website where you can read masses on the internet co I'm hooked for the moment.
As I can't think of anything else to say I'm gonna finish this post here... so....... Hiya to everyone again!!!

Everything Else / Random career question......
« on: February 12, 2008, 01:03:06 AM »
As I was just surfing around the site I found this section and felt the sudden urge to post this thread. Don't ask me why as I won't be able to reply.... ^_^

1. What did you want to be when you were little?
2. What do you want to be? (Doesn't have to be what you're doing right now)
3. What are you doing?
4. What are you going to be? (For those studying for a certain career or changing imminently)

1. I always wanted to be a doctor, I even took work experience in a hospital when I was 15. I had a great time but found my interests just seemed to learn in a slightly different direction.
2. I would love to study geography, in particular physical georgraphy or geology. I'd LOVE to be a vulcanologist or something similar. Though it's just impossible for me at the moment.
3. I'm studying art, architectural (sp?) drawing and a load of other things at a technical art college in Switzerland.
4. I might become a painter or an architect, it's all open for me at the moment. Haven't decided.

Please reply - even if it's just a couple of lines!!

Video Games / Re: Why does Runescape ruin everything?!
« on: February 12, 2008, 12:50:25 AM »
I enjoy playing Runescape, I don't know what it is but I just can't stay away. It can be so boring and so time-consuming and so pointless but I just can't stop.
I haven't got the maddness or the patience to get really high levels but I'm no newbie ^_^

Books / Re: How has your views on WoT characters changed over the years?
« on: February 12, 2008, 12:36:14 AM »
After reading through the posts here it was a little annoying to hear all the 'hates' and 'can't stands'.
I might like a character less than another; find one more interesting or have features that appeal more to me, but I don't hate a character (well..... the forsaken I can understand).
For me when I first read the books several years ago I really liked Rand, however as time drew on and I matured I drew away from him, I understood his pain and suffering but I prefered to read of the lighter characters.
I've always found it hard to choose one character to say is my favourite.
I like Mat, he's funny and a good hearted rogue whoose character developes well over the couse of the story and Perrin I enjoy for the strong, warm friendship that he gives and the down to earth (most of the time) feeling I get from him though I find he can be a little static sometimes.
With the girls it becomes a little harder. I've always liked Nynaeve, it was interesting to see how she interacted with the other characters particularally when she was leading her little group black ajah hunting.
Elayne I like but after never to the same extent of the others, I can often relate to her but I don't find her quite as interesting. I really like Egwene, she's probably close to being my favourite especially in the last book. One of my favourite chapters is 'Honey in the tea'. I can't wait to see her do well in the Tower.
Faile was a little irritating in the first few books but she matured into a very interesting character, in the last few books when captured I felt it dragged a little but her strength and hope, and leadership qualities made a peson who I enjoyed reading.
Back when I first starting reading the books and began going online on the rpg's or reading posts on the WoT I almost always chose Aviendha as my character, she was always most exciting and close in looks to me, though far hardier. She had a spirit especially against Rand which was fun to read and striking against the fairer other main women of the books.
I've missed out other characters as my post is getting too long and a little repetitive and it's late and I want to go to bed, I might write something on them another time. ^_^
In general I've found the characters changing, adding more to their personalities and growing with the books I can't wait for the last book!
