Brandon Sanderson / Dawnshard (WoK Spoilers)
« on: September 23, 2010, 10:14:50 PM »
I was just reading the Truthless thread, and LoneStar mentioned that Syl says she "binds things".

And that reminded me of something.

From Jasnah's notes in the epigraphs (emphasis mine):
Quote
Taking the Dawnshard, known to bind any creature voidish or mortal, he crawled up the steps crafted for Heralds, ten strides tall apiece, toward the grand temple above.

Are the Dawnshards related to Spren in some way?

Brandon Sanderson / Nine Survivors (WoK spoilers)
« on: September 11, 2010, 07:06:24 AM »
At the San Diego book signing, someone said "it seems contradictory for Kalak to refer to the fighting as 'extremely furious', and then for nine of the Heralds to survive".

I don't recall the exact wording of Brandon's response, but amid the RAFO, he said that there was a reason that they survived, in a way that implied that there was something else unusual going on.

My theory: Odium let them survive, giving them a chance to leave. This might be a part of his plan.

Alternate theory: Jezrien is a bad guy.

Brandon Sanderson / The curse and the blessing (WoK Spoilers)
« on: September 06, 2010, 05:31:35 PM »
Well, we know that Dalinar got something out of the ancient magic when he was younger, and that he also got a curse out of the deal.

Now, I think the curse is his inability to remember his wife. What I'm curious about is what he asked for.

Any ideas?

I can think of a few nebulous theories.

First, maybe he asked for his wife, then forgot her when she died. It would be somewhat ironic, so it depends on how poetic the giver of blessings/curses is.

Second, his shardblade. Personally, I doubt it's this one. More likely, he just inherited that.

Third, something related to helping Gavilar form his kingdom.

Fourth, something that hasn't been hinted at yet, and as such, we have no chance of guessing.

Any other ideas?

Brandon Sanderson / First Interlude *Way of Kings SPOILERS*
« on: September 01, 2010, 10:38:45 PM »
I looked around a bit, but couldn't find anyone else who had noticed this. Either means I'm seeing things that aren't there, or that I'm more observant than everyone else. Either one is possible.

In the first interlude (with Ishikk, the fisherman), I noticed that the strangers looking for Hoid seem a lot like the characters from Elantris. Grumpy is "thick limbed" and "completely bald", Blunt is "taller", and from the description is built like a soldier. These two are dark-skinned. To me, Grumpy sounds a LOT like Galladon. Most tellingly, his last words in the interlude are Alavanta kamaloo kayana. And "kayana" is a word that Galladon uses in Elantris (if I remember correctly, it meant "crazy"). Blunt might be the soldier Elantrian (his name escapes me at the moment, and I don't have my copy of the book on hand to look it up).

And I would assume "Thinker" is Raoden, since the name and description appear to fit him.
