Movies and TV / Toy Story 3 *Spoilers*
« on: June 19, 2010, 11:10:41 PM »
So who's seen it? Did you like it? Because I loved it. I'm almost wanting to say it was better than the first two, and yet the first two were just so good that I'm not sure I want to say it beats them. Yet it definitely equaled their greatness.

I loved the references to the first two. Especially the beginning, because that referenced the first movie so freaking much. The whole banditry thing, and the force field dog and my dinosaur eats your force field dog stuff. It was funny.

I thought it had just the right combination of humor and emotion. I laughed, and I cried--mostly right at the end. Please note that this wasn't bawling. It was more tearing up than crying, and I tend to tear up a decent amount at movies, but whatever. Wasn't exactly expecting to do that in a Toy Story movie.

Also: spanish Buzz Lightyear. Hilarious. And I loved that they had 'You've Got a Friend In Me' as the song at the beginning of the end credits just like in 1. In spanish. I almost didn't recognize it at first and then I'm like "Wait! AH!" Awesome.

It was predictable, but then, this is Disney. Disney tends to be predictable, and it was predictable in a good, and more than relatively obvious, way. I mean, I totally called that phone traitor, the donation to Bonnie (loved her!), and the Andy playing with Bonnie scene at the end. As a little side-note, my friend leaned over at that point and said, "She's going to have the biggest crush on him for so long." And I agree. Poor little fictional girl.

All-in-all, I thought it was great. What say all of you?

Music / Song Lyrics

We all have lyrics that we just love, whether it's because they're visual, romantic, or just sound cool (or any other conceivable reason). Post them here!

I have a bunch that I could use, but...I'll limit it to 2 for now.

"Heaven was jealous to merely look fair against you." -Making April (These are the Nights)

"You make it hard to smile because you make it hard to breathe." -Secondhand Serenade (Why)

Critiques for my short, Invasion.

It doesn't matter, but this short takes place in the same world as the other short that I submitted last week--Knight on the Rim....same world as my book.

Thanks for reading!

Movies and TV / Harper's Island
« on: June 29, 2009, 06:30:52 AM »
I recently got hooked on a new tv show called Harper's Island. It's a rather grisly show about a wedding party that goes to an island where 6 people were murdered 7 years before, and there's a killer on the loose who is taking each of them out, one by one. It's an intense show, and I find myself wondering after each episode why I'm watching this--because it actually shows the murders and the bodies and it's really kind of gruesome--and yet I can't keep myself from moving on to the next ep.

I'm curious if anyone else has seen this show. If not, check it out on youtube if you're into this kind of stuff. Despite the blood (or maybe, because of the blood) it's a pretty good show.

Movies and TV / Chuck

Who watches Chuck? And who watched last night's episode? Cuz it was AWESOME! Oh my gosh. I'm not going to post any spoilers (yet) but...wow. Simply wow. Next week's will be epic, I tell you.

Also, is this the last season? It's an awesome show so I hope it's not getting canceled, but I'm not sure how it'll work plot-wise if there's another season...Anyone know?

Brandon Sanderson / Elantris vs. Mistborn *Spoilers*
« on: February 04, 2009, 07:22:55 AM »
Okay, I did a search, and it didn't seem like this had been talked about at all. There's the WoT/Mistborn thing, but...this isn't the same. Anyway. I finally finished Elantris and after thinking about it I'm curious which magic system would win if pitted against each other.

Let's say, for some reason the Dakhor monks and the Elantrians teamed up and took on the Mistborn and Feruchemists. For the sake of the poll, let's narrow the fight down to one of each (sidenote: I would've added Hemalurgy, but those two (Allomancy and Feruchemy) together are pretty much the same....kind of). Which side would win?

I'm inclined to think that the Elantris side would win. As much as I love Mistborn's magic system, I just don't see it beating the Dor. And I personally think the weakness is in the mistborn. I think if the feruchemist and the monk fought, it would be pretty fair, assuming the feruchemist has a large store of powers (like speed, strength and weight....healing too, definitely). But the mistborn wouldn't really stand a chance against the Elantrian. The Elantrian would be able to counter anything the mistborn did--either with transporting themselves to a very nearby location, or changing metal to some sort of food, or even using that fire Raoden uses at first, or the Aon Daa Galladon's team uses when they first get to Teod. The feruchemist wouldn't be much better, either. The only way either one would stand a chance against the Elantrian was if they got a lucky strike onto the arms or hands, incapacitating the Elantrian in regards to the Aons.

Other thoughts?

Reading Excuses / Crashers
« on: December 01, 2008, 06:40:23 AM »
Thanks for reading the prologue and Chapter 1....I was actually originally working on adding a scene between to the two classroom scenes in chapter 1, but...I didn't exactly finish writing it, so I didn't send that out. I'm attempting to be a good student and finish reading the count of monte cristo for a class....but I digress.

Anyway. Thanks for reading and tell me what you think about it. Was it good? Should I change anything? Any typos (I think I've caught all of them, but who knows?)? Thoughts? Impressions?...I'll take pretty much any advice I can get. Don't hold anything back. I really like constructive criticism.

Brandon Sanderson / Wikipedia--HoA spoilers
« on: November 29, 2008, 06:00:44 AM »
I'm bored, and I was randomly looking at Mistborn-related stuff on Wikipedia. Reading through some of the descriptions, I've seen a few errors, corrected a few myself, and then I came across one that I know is wrong, but I'm not entirely sure how to go about correcting it. Perhaps some of you can help me out.

The link to the specific page is here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mistborn_series

My question is about the description under Ruin, specifically this part of it:

Quote
Perhaps the worst of Ruin's powers is that he strengthens the Mist so it can come out during the day and also he can make it kill people.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong (but I don't think I am), Ruin never had control of the mist. The mists were of Preservation. The mist spirit was Preservation. So Ruin didn't strengthen the mists, and he didn't make them kill people, right? Preservation caused the mist-sickness, causing a few people to die, to make more people Allomancers. Correct?
