Brandon Sanderson / Best Mistborn Fight Scene *SPOILERS*
« on: November 03, 2008, 03:23:46 AM »
The idea for this thread sprung when a poster claimed (in another thread) that Kels fight vs the inquistor was the ulimate fight.

I disagree. But thats just me. I realize that-despite my vanity. Otherwise i wouldn't have posted this thread.  Anyhow, i picked Mist-wielding Vin. For obvious reasons. The first being that she flattened Kredrik Shaw. KREDRIK SHAW!

Plus she fought one, two, three...Nine Inquistors (i think). So, logically, that would make her fight nine times better, right. Right?

But then again, thats just me.  :P

To be honest, Kel's fight came in third for me--following Atium--induced Elend. Seriously. He was using a sword. And felled thousands of Koloss

And he used a sword.

What'd ya'll think?

Brandon Sanderson / The Mistborn Trilogy. *Spoilers*
« on: October 25, 2008, 08:22:32 PM »
SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!

For me it was The Final Empire. Though i didn't want to get all nostalgic about it...I find that there really is no other way to explain. Here goes.

I'm sure you all know what a relation ship is like on the first few months--new and exciting, filled with discovery and growing closer with your partner.

Thats how book one is. It is, in a lack of a better and less corny analogy, the beginning of my relationship with Mistborn. The magic system was new to me, the characters mysterious and unknown. The story unpredictable. They always say that there will be no one like your first...

ehm. Joke. I kid. I just wanted to see how far i could take it.

then i thought, perhaps i'm just the type who likes beginnings. Looking back to all the trilogies and series i read, i found that i reread the firsts more. That i read them for longer periods at a time. That i liked them more.

However, i will not let my vanity blind me, i know there must be other opinions. Thus, i ask, of the three, which do you find the most enjoyable?

Brandon Sanderson / On the essence of Mistborn.
« on: October 24, 2008, 05:06:30 PM »
I, after reading HOA and letting out an "OOooha Man!" in attempt to express the sheer awesomness of the Trilogy, approached my bookshelf and tried to catergorize it...

I wasn't sure where to put it, and i still don't know:

Should i place it Near Goodkinds Sword of Truth Series? It is a fantasy epic that has plenty to do with a young couple in love.

Should I have placed it In my Mystery category? I presume you all know why that is a possibility.

then i saw The Name of The Wind, and Brandon's Mistborn Rivals it in uniqueness.

I was also tempted to shelf it near my WOT books.

I think you are all beginning to see me problem.

So, with that in mind, in a sentence how would y'all describe and/or categorize Mistborn?

Brandon Sanderson / The Crew. SPIOLERS! SPIOLERS! SPIOLERS! SPIOLERS!
« on: October 11, 2008, 09:28:13 PM »
This thought originally sprouted from a reply to another post.

The...poster's, if you will, of the "What will happen in HOA" and "The Countdown" threads have become dear friends to me. And i have come to realize that, in a not so dramatic and epic sense, that we are sort of like The Crew. Aren't we? We address issues, disect them, propose thoughts--reject or modify them. We Are The Crew.

So, since i have read the third and final book, i have called upon you all--the best of the best--to discuss the world of Mistborn.

I'm sure it'll have to wait as most of you probably haven't received the book let alone finished it. And i think we shouldn't start posting until the 16th.

Brandon Sanderson / What will happen in book three: HOA.
« on: September 22, 2008, 05:24:45 AM »
Howdy,

I have read enough books to suspect that a major character will allmost always die; Kelsier in book one, there were a handful in book two. So the question remains, who will survive book three? Who won't...

I think i listed all the possible choices, including none for those deniers(probably the younger readers) and all for those of you who are probably slightly demented... :D!

To compliment the "the countdown" thread and any future releases of chapters, i set the "allow users to change vote," option on. So if anything arises that changes your mind, and or if Andrew, Chaose2651 or Ookla stumble upon a revelation of some sort, the option is there--i only ask that you explain the reasons behind the change.

So there it is, vote and explain yourself.

Brandon Sanderson / Kwaan and the Inquistors
« on: September 19, 2008, 02:37:43 AM »
Quote from: Mistborn: The Final Empire; Epigraph for Chapter 29

Quote
29 – The others all think I should have had Kwaan executed for betraying me. To tell the truth, I’d probably kill him this moment if I knew where he’d gone. At the time, however, I just couldn’t do it.

The man had become like a father to me. To this day, I don’t know why he suddenly decided that I wasn’t the Hero. Why did he turn against me, denouncing me to the entire Conclave of Worldbringers?

Would he rather that the Deepness win ? Surely, even if I’m not the right one – as Kwaan now claims – my presence at the Well of Ascension couldn’t possibly be worse than what will happen if the Deepness continues to destroy the land.

We later learn that Kwaan ran to the Inquistor stronghold, where Sazed finds his etching...

Ok, what how are Kwaan and the Inquistors related?

He says that the only things that can be trusted are written in metal. He says that whatever was changing the prophecy has also changed the records in the keepers' mind....

Inquistors have metal jammed in there heads...

Is there a connection? or am i just mixing things?

Writing Group / How you handle WRITER'S BLOCK!
« on: September 14, 2008, 01:54:26 PM »
Hey fellow writers,

I assume you all know what writers block is--all of us more then we'd like. I caught it this week, and it hit me hard. Now, you must know that i have my own personal remedy but i think it's losing its affect. I go rock climbing or hiking and sometimes if its raining, i put on my favorite hoodie, and listen to the rain trickle on the brim the hood--It's soothing, i don't know! Don't judge me.

Anyway, i realized how....unique my remedies were and wondered what other writers do to ward of the plague that is writer's block.

What is your way of getting through, over, under, passed, and around it?

Brandon Sanderson / The Parchment
« on: September 11, 2008, 09:32:52 PM »
Kelsier's wife had a Parchment which depicted what the world looked like before the HOA...or actually we dont know exactly if TLR ruined the world or the deepness before him--but still. Where did she get this? How did she know this?

theories anyone?
