That's an awesome costume FRR! C:
Did you make the daggers yourself?

While reading HoA I ended up doing some sketches of Vin - nothing spectacular, but I went and colored one quickly to help get me out of a slump.

O_O
These are absolutely beautiful!
The sketches are great, I love what you did with the design for the inquisitors. They look so menacing!

As for the Vin picture, I have always loved that style (although I am terrible at doing solid light and shadow) and this makes me love it more! The outline of her face is amazingly well done, I love the expression. I also like her pose; it's perhaps my favorite part of the picture, because it captures a bit of her motion, almost falling (though we know she would control that), and then you have to scroll down to see the rest of the picture, emphasizing the movement, at least for me. :3
You did the clothing folds wonderfully, and I like how the ash reminds me of black snow, reminding me of its own eerie qualities.

I really hope you do more! ;)

P.S. Thanks Reaves, Ookla, and Obi for the comments on my doodles! ^^;

Was killing time again, and then this happened:
Elantris Doodles

I didn't have my copy of Elantris on me and I couldn't remember what everybody looked like exactly. So there's just a random person and very vague Raoden and that other guy too.
I promise some polished and finished fanart sometime in the future, haha. XD

Brandon Sanderson / Re: New Mistborn One Cover Art
« on: February 21, 2008, 01:49:07 AM »
I think it's much much better than the last cover. I'm glad that the style of the title was kept in the design (that was probably the only thing I liked about the first paperback cover) and I much prefer this Vin to the other, more paintingy Vin. And the mistcloak is really neat; I never thought about it being that way but it works really well.

It's not perfect, but rarely any book covers are. It is interesting to see the artist's interpretation. :3

Books / Re: What are you reading, part 3

I haven't been able to finish any books in a long time, but here is the list I'm trying to get through:
Through Wolf's Eyes by  Jane Lindskold
Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians by Brandon Sanderson
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling (yes am I a terrible person I haven't finished it yet :) )
Dragonsdawn by Anne McCaffrey
The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett

I'm not allowing myself to pick up anymore until this mountain is done, but when I do finish them, I'm starting Xenocide by Orsen Scott Card  ;)

Thanks Nessa - I find it funny since I just recently picked up this book and began reading it, then hit a wall about halfway through. I agree wholeheartedly to your remarks. It gets a little tough with all the new names being thrown every way (took me a while to even understand the family chart) and I felt deprived of why I really started to read the book: Fireheart!

I intend to finish it, however - overall it's an alright book so far. Though I wonder, has anyone else read further into the series? Does it get any more interesting or exciting?

I like it! Especially those mist effects - all rainbowy and awesome!

Chibi Vin strikes again!
Uh, I made something with the intention of doodling and it grew into a full blown pic.
It's Vin with...coins? And...fighting...I don't know. I can't even remember if Vin uses the coins like this.
Behold my use of artistic license!

Brandon is one of Tor's most expensive authors to print.

But I'd say worth every penny. ;)

Wow! Congratulations, Brandon! That's fantastic!

I was curious about that ever since you mentioned the topic of who was going to finish the books at the book signing where I saw you. I knew you were being considered, but wow! Now I have something to say to my WoT fan friends who have asked me before, "Brandon Sanderson? Who is that?"

Congratulations, again! Good luck, and I hope you thoroughly enjoy finishing the series!

No objections here - fantastic idea!

Although, I must say, you seem to have forgot this thread:
"Lo and behold, some fanart!"

I'm glad that you liked it, Brandon! I had fun drawing that one.

As for making all fanart on one thread, should I post this in my other one, or what?

Brandon Sanderson / Mistborn Art again
« on: December 01, 2007, 07:53:34 PM »
To avoid necroposting, I made a new thread.

I felt like doing some Mistborn art today, but I didn't have enough time to do a full picture or anything. So I just doodled for a while and colored some of it.

It's rather huge, so I won't even post a thumbnail.
Doodles

There are some minor spoilers for Well of Ascension, I think - but they don't make any sense anyway unless you know what the drawings are, so you'd have to have read the book.  So I'm not sure if they really are spoilers.

Ooh! I love it! Very nicely done; I love how the reddish-ness to everything makes it look.

Having neither read the book nor knowing really anything about it, these are my first impressions put briefly in my opinon:

The orange is neat, it is eye-catching, bright, etc. but also it just makes me think of a giant pumpkin. Also the combo with the bluish green is nicely done to tie in some complementary colors, but I just don't like how they clash.

The white dress on the other hand, goes with her hair beautifully--they're both light, white-ish colors but while the dress is more tan, the hair is more blue. It emphasizes a certain delicateness to her qualities.

I do think that the picture is missing something without the blood on the sword. It would be a wonderful focal point of the picture with a dash of crimson instead of the yellow light; the rainbow craziness has a variety of colors but doesn't consist of any red other than the tiny bit at the narrow end. Ooh, and think of the small blood stains there could be on her dress near it! I always love the poetic appearance of red on white.

As for the wispy breath thing itself, I don't really think they're any necessity to dispose of it entirely, and instead mist it up a little and make it more detached from her face. When I first looked at the picture, I was extremely confused at what it was, but that made me interested!

I don't really want her eyes open; they would look awkward in her particular position if she was just staring at something. I dunno, it looks odd in my mind.

Overall, in the state it is in right now, I would definitely pick it up off the shelf and at least read the summary, and be strongly tempted to just buy it for the art (wouldn't be the first time). She's so beautiful.
