Brandon Sanderson / Re: I finally converted someone!

Good job.  I have hooked my brother with Elantris, and now he is on FE.  He will be the one to get my second copy of HOA (yes, I am one of those who couldn't wait for Amazon to ship my copy, so I bought another one).  I am now working on my brother-n-law (who introduced me to WoT), and a friend of mine who is a major sci-fi fantasy geek, but can be very stubborn.  He insists on not starting another book until he has finished reading Wheel of Time again.
I think for anyone who has read WoT, Mistborn should be required reading

When sanderson anounced he was finishing WoT, like many in that fandom, i grabbed my keys and my wallet and sped to borders. After finishing all his books out at the time (except alctraz, took me almost 2 months to track that one down) i told all my WoT loving freinds to read it.

My bestfriend got it, loved it, and spread the love to a couple of his friends.

also one of my D&D buddies was so sick of hearing me talkabout the book and not knowing what i was talking about, he read it and loved it. (now i have to return the favor and try david eddings(SP?)).

im working on getting my fiance to read Elantris, i figure as a one shot i have a better chance as she is a teacher with no time to read for herself (and when she does she reads those crappy literary fic books *blech*)

p.s. your dedication in spreading the love of reading, and sanderson in particular, is amazing

i belive that the shards have to be represented as bodies of water, thats what the first "hero of ages" saw on his way up north to terris (i totaly blanked on his name), its what filled the well of assention, and was outside of elantris.

if we take that the pools of water are the physical manifistation of shards, i think we might be able to extrapolate that the source of the pits is infact a pool of water, but due to the nature of the pits, it goes through a geological process that turns it into the geods and atium. (i think of it as the water is leaching through the rocks and when it finds a pocket it creats a geod the same way a clam would make a pearl).

This could also tie into the flowers that make such vivid colors in warbreaker. the plants feed off the shard lake and are able to create such wonderful dies.

lastly, as far as Elantris goes, it seems to me that the Dakhor dont use Aeons, Raodin describes the bones as having intricate patterns, not recognizable Aeons (and i think that he could recognize them having become an expert in a few short weeks).

I still think Jaddeth is a shard, but there isnt much proof. however i can imagine a senario as such:
Everything on (insert planet name here) is going along just fine, then Adonalsium gets broken up into his shards and they pierce through time and space and these shards endup on diffrent planets. Poor (insert planet name here) gets hit with two shards. This causes a rift in theological doctrine those that follow Shu-Korath go with the shard in elantris and shu-dereth goes with the shard that i believe is under a mountain somewhere.

also, i think it would make sense for the shards to travel in "pairs" either because they are spiritualy bound to eachother as oposit forces or because as they go from wherever Adonalsium is into our real, the shards fracture again into two parts.

so all this is very detailed and as i have seen from other fandoms, the more detailed the theory the more likely it is to be WAY off.

please destroy it apropriatly :)

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Seons, why are they still around after the Reod

Perhaps the Seons also keep working because they are a piece of a shard?

That whole stored energy thing sounds a lot like lifeless creation by the way.

from what i understand of shards, so far there physical manifestations have either been lakes or actual people.  The four that i think we have seen are ruin/preservation in mistborn (the well of assention had a lake, and i believe so did the pits) the lake outside elantris and i assume that Jaddeth has a lake under ground somewhere.

Thanks for all the responses!

based off what you said, does that mean that the Aons could have run out of power had Raodin not figured out how to let the Dor flow again?

Brandon Sanderson / Seons, why are they still around after the Reod

ok, i hate it when people prefece with this, but i went a few pages deep and didnt see hardly anything about elantris let alone this specific topic...

Why do the Seons live on after the Reod, if the core of thier existanse is an Aon and the Aons power left when the earthquake happened and fundementaly chagned the Aon's then how do the seons keep living?

this may be answered later on in the book, im just doing my first re-read and seeing Ien float around amelessly got me wondering.
