Brandon Sanderson / Merch and Collectable Ideas
« on: October 15, 2009, 11:24:19 PM »
First of sorry if a thread like this has already been started (I had a look at the last few pages but Im lazy and gave up)

After todays blog post: "I've been thinking of offering more collector's items like this in the future. What do you think? Do you like that I'm offering this Allomantic Table print? Should I get Isaac to make Feruchemy and Hemalurgy tables? What other items are you itching for? I'm considering having a swordsmith make Nightblood replicas, but they would run about $250 and that doesn't even include a sheath. Do I have fans who would go for something like that? (And how much would a sheath be worth to you?)"

I thought it would be nice to post some of our ideas here.

I am all up for the sword idea, I have a couple already and they are great and I would love a Nightblood personally. The sheath is a pretty important part of the design so I would like to see that included, maybe have it available with or without so people have the choice if they are willing to pay extra. I get my swords from a place called Global Gear they are Australian and I dont know if they ship internationally but they have a good website http://www.globalgear.com.au/ and have pictures showing what kind of result we could get.

As far as other ideas go I don't have many. There hasn't been that many hero items in the Brandon Sanderson books yet (like the WOT has the Ashendari, the heron mark blades, the Aes Sedai rings etc)

Elends Duelling cane
A scaled model of Nightblood,  Koloss sword and duelling cane
Vins mistcloak (for real not just the dead link in the store :) )
Sazeds pheruchemical stores/ bracelets etc
A cloth bag of boxings

Shes actually just stuck on in photoshop and compositing work isnt my strong point. I want to try to get her in the scene but it keeps crashing my software. Shes also my first attempt at a woman so if she looks a bit old that would be why.

Get ready im about to highjack this thread ;D
So I have 'finished' my Mistborn project (still open to critiques) The images are the composite of Vin in front of a fortress/palace, Vin by herself and the palace by itself.

Thanks for looking

//EDIT: Made some changes based on ookla's crit

I was pretty peeved when I found out somebody else had already done one (but I started before his was posted so im not copying)

If you ever do need a 3D guy, I wouldn't mind helping. Also have you heard of Game Maker? its for 2D games mostly but its dead easy to make decent games with it. also have you thought of using flash? thats also easy to program for. I made a stealth action game in flash in a month or two with next to no experience in coding(I'll even give you the code to get you started if you want 8)).
Ill see if I can get a link going for it...

Brandon Sanderson / Re: What else are you reading, lately?

I've been reading Mark Chadbourn's books before I found out about Brandon. He is similar in that he tried to do something different with fantasy. Its basically set in modern England as the world for some inexplicable reason turns to a place of magic again and technology begins to fail. I liked it a lot the first two times I read the series it has some cool concepts about christianity and paganism. He's nowhere near as good a writer as Brandon though

Hi. I thought I remembered hearing about another new series that Brandon was planning to do somewhere so I did some searching and found a blog entry that confirmed warbreaker 2 -hooray- and Dragonsteel and he also mentioned that there was a sample chapter for it but the link was dead. Does anyone still have a copy they can send me?

It would be cool to have my cover be the official one but yeah this is mostly just for a folio piece and good practice for when I finally decide to start the fantasy art book im planning on doing

So I'm planning on making a cover image for Warbreaker. I'm still unsure on what I am actually going to do for it though. So far I am thinking of either; Vasher with his awakened clothing, something to do with Lightsong -the true hero of the story- or something a bit more abstract such as Austere's eyes with rainbow coloured irises.

What are your thoughts? What would you  like to see on the cover of this great story when it is published next year?
