Yum!

The person below me is not Rukloph.

Ah.  Suddenly the "We won't sell our titles to Seagull anymore, neener neener." move by DB  a few months ago makes perfect sense.  They wanted to hurt Seagull/Covenant to the point that the owner would sell, so they do something that would hurt their own sales in the short term in order to get a buyout that will benefit them in the long term.

Slimy bastards.  Does the church still own DB?  Behavior like this seems to contradict a few LDS values.

As always, maybe I'm wrong.  Am I being overly cynical here?

Pump the sound through a portable stereo.  I know sprig has an MP3 player and i can bring one of those portable stereos and a tape adaptor (to connect the headphone jack on the PM3 player with the tape deck on the portable stereo.)  You can get decent sound through a setup like that right?

I declare myself officially hurt that no one thought Skangle Bells was worthy of nomination.

Ok.  There's a review of Blood Diamond in the Movies section waiting to be made visible to all and blurbed.  I still can't edit it, so, E, if you could have a quick look to see if I made any formatting errors and fix them I'd be grateful.

Sweet.  I was wondering when you'd swing by Ookla.  I feel that there's a good start here.  Thanks y'all a ton.

I obviously can't speak for anyone else, but I have trouble reviewing even movies and books due to time constraints.  I just don't have time to play games anymore.  The only game I play is FEAR combat.

I suppose I could review that...  goes off to think about it.

Generally, games take way more time to get to the point where you could honestly review them than books and movies.  I think that's the main problem.  Our regulars all have fuller lives than they did when the site started or when they first started contributing.

I think the answer is to start recruiting.

OWNED image...

That...that was the most awesome thing I've ever seen on this forum.  That...I fell out of my chair and had to recap the entire thread so my wife would get it.

Someone rocks.

Rants and Stuff / Re: The OS Response
« on: December 12, 2006, 03:22:37 AM »
Um, no, thats just simply not true, so I hope you were being sarcastic.

Not sarcastic, simply an ineffective communicator.  What I was trying to answer was why Linux and Mac users lash out at Windows users, trying to get them to change.  Since you are not one who lashes out and pushes your choice of OS on people, you are not in the group I am describing.

Essentially (and you were probably assuming I was making a less obvious point) the people who lash out and push their OS are insecure people who need to affirm themselves somehow.  The same applies to Windows users who lash out and push their OS on people.  So, more simply stated, my point would be, "Many people who lash out at complete strangers over a trivial choice of software do so because they are insecure."

Abusive Mac and Linux users who lash out are insecure because they are not in the majority.  Abusive windows users who lash out are insecure because they think they might be missing out on something cool (flashback to High School and the exclusive cliques).

The "Insecurity leads to lashing out" paradigm can be observed in nearly every human situation whether it's a choice of OS, or religion.

If you're looking for high school level reading, let me know, and I'll revise this list.
Not sure yet.  I'd definitely like to see your revised list too though.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.  Give me more!

Oldie?

Books / Graphic Novels for kids
« on: December 11, 2006, 04:54:26 PM »
So, here's my problem.  My 7 year old can read.  He just doesn't like to yet.  My collection of reading materials has a big gap in it I am now discovering.  That gap is the one between text only books and collections of comic strips.

I need suggestions for graphic novels that my 7 year old might enjoy (He loves and understands Lord of the Rings, just can't make it past the all text pages quite yet.)  and that won't offend his, or my, sensibilities.  As a marker, I think Frank Miller's "Batman the Dark Knight Returns" is just a tad on the dark side for his age.

After a shallow search it looks like "Bone" might be a good one, but I'm not sure.  Suggestions?

(Saint, I'm looking at you.)

I saw this film last Friday and came down with Strep Throat before I could write the review.  Perhaps today.
