Everything Else / Re: RIP Totally Awesome Computers

Yeah, if you want business, it's not good to treat potential customers like crap. A better way is to help them as much as you can and if you can't help them, still be nice. I'm pretty sure my husband told people of his experience every time TAC was brought up. Not good for business.

Well, you do have to wonder why they chose the name John Locke. I guess it could be coincidental, but I wonder if there is a connection between him and the philosopher.

All I know is my husband had the same experience as E. He was building his own computer and went there to see if they had something and they treated him like crap. He decided to never go back there.

I think that SuperDell is crazy. Who carries around a concealed gun (even with a permit) for no apparent reason, and then starts waving it around? He claims that he was being attacked, but when I heard the story on the news I didn't get that. All I got was that he was crazy and endangering his daughter and all those around him. He says that the media is to blame, but here's an idea: don't be crazy and do crazy things and the media will have nothing to show on the news!

I got my state tax return back. I had it direct deposited and so it is in my account as we speak. It came back really quick. I'm so glad I'm done and I don't have to worry about it!

Geez. It seems like it would be easier to just copy the story into Notepad and then add the characters to indicate ital. Wouldn't you think? Doesn't Notepad automatically strip formatting and curly quotes, so you wouldn't have to go through the trouble of removing them yourself?

I like the font for the title.

I think the poses, though, are over the top and look like they're suppose to be for a romance novel set in the 19th century. The quote from Orson Scott Card looks out of place where it is. It's aligned center with the title, but I think that was a mistake.

I wanted to know what happened to the people that took Claire. I mean did they pack up and go to another part of the island? There is only so much island? And why did they have all that baby stuff? I think they have a way to get on and off the island and aren't there all the time (or at least have a way to get supplies). Why did they want Aaron so much, though? What makes him so special?

So weird. I like the mystery though (as long as the end makes things make sense and doesn't seem contrived).

Actually, because this year April 15 is on a Saturday, April 17 is the deadline (or at least I got an email from the Web site I used to e-file my taxes that said if I owed the government money, I had to have it sent by April 17 to avoid penalties. I am assuming that the 15th being a Saturday is the reason).

Yeah, well when you used to making $10,000 as a student, it sure feels like it. Plus, when I am making that much I figure my taxes will be a lot more complicated cause we'll likely own a house and what not.

And I didn't say it was "real" money. I said it was "normal amounts" of money. In my mind there is a difference.

I don't suppose we can change what class we are, can we? I figure not, but it would be fun to be able to ;D.

On the site that I used, it said if you made under $50,000/year (with a few other stipulations, which I'm not sure what they are) then it was free. But the one I did only let me do my federal taxes free. I paid $9.95 to get my state done free, but I figured with the convenience, and the fact I was getting back over $500, it was worth it. Especially since it was all online and really easy to fill out and submit. No hard copies to send in the mail and no forms to get. It filled it out for you and made it into a PDF when you were done (so you could download them and print them out for your records). Also, you can have your money deposited directly into your bank account so that you don't have to worry about the check being lost in the mail and you get it faster.

Once I'm making normal amounts of money (i.e. over 50,000) I think I'm going to get an accountant to do my taxes. I hear it's only like $100 and I figure if my taxes are really complicated by then, with mortgage interest, investments, etc., it will be easier and worth the money.

If you don't see the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button, then you must not be on the main page for Google. If you just search in the Google toolbar, then it will actually give you normal results. You have to go to Google.com, put in the phrase, and click on the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button, which is right next to the "Google Search" button.

Kill your Tivo. Stop paying for cable. go back to dial up internet. Cancel your magazine subscriptions.

I'd add cell phones to this list (or at least cut it down to one cell phone, which is normally the same cost as a land line with unlimited long distance). If you get free high speed internet, totally get Vonage. With taxes it's $27.50/mo and you have unlimited calls anywhere in the US and Canada. That's cheap!

And I totally get the magazine thing, but I'm keeping my Ensign subscription. :)

Video Games / Re: The Sims
« on: February 24, 2006, 12:48:30 PM »
All I know is we got the Sims 2 (PC version) cause I enjoyed the first one and every time I try to play it, our computer locks up. We try everything we can to make it work (including turning off the antivirus software which I think is ridiculous that you have to, especially if you have cable internet), but it didn't help. About 15 minutes in, it would lock up. And it's not that we have a bad system. We have a great All-in-Wonder video card, 1 GB RAM (which isn't amazing, but not bad), etc. (my husband built it so he made pretty good) and we haven't had any problems with any other games. It makes me so mad that we paid for the game and I don't even get to play it!
