I don't think anyone's comin' down on you; it's a reasonable enough request to ask you to supply evidence for your claim. Pretty standard, actually.

Standard in what? A college class? This is a discussion board. I discussed what I remembered and what I thought about the book. But you are right about one thing, this is standard across the "interweb" - rude and demanding people who are quick to trash someone because they do not agree.

PS: Thans Ookla - that is EXACTLY what i was doing. I come here for fuin and discussion. If i wanted to do research, I would continue to work instead of taking a break and surfing the net.

No offense there Monsta, but do you get to see the child?

I have a 16 year old son I have not seen in 11 years, he has my first and last name, but what good does that do if I cant be his father? dont worry about petty garbage like last names, wor4ry about being a father, first and foremost. None of the rest of the crap matters. And you know, stuff happens. Is it my fault? You bet I had a big part to play in it. Regognize YOUR part to play in your situation before you even try to move on from it.

I actually find Dr Phil to be quite good sometimes. Some of his stuff though (go read his "Potty Training" manual) is stupid, and sometimes abusive, in my eyes. His relationship stuff though is quite good usually. The cheating thing, if I remember, is a hoax.

Oh, and Shaggy, most lawyers would never represent a family member, but I am sure he could recommend someone good ;)

To Monsta: sounds like you seriously need a good shrink. you are on what they call a "self-destructive" path. Trust me, been there. If you dont change your ways (you are young though, I think, so you got some time, but dont take too long) you will wind up alone, and miserable. I didnt get myself straightened out until my late 20s, and I really paid the price for it.

Really though, you are going to have to support that with some kind of evidence or a quote.

Well, I am not about to read the books again, and really could care less to "look for evidence" I was just going from memory, and my memory is pretty darn good. but whatever, since you seem rather adamant about evidence, you can read the book again and come back and tell me I was wrong, thats fine. but I am not really concerned about it either way. You people really need to lighten up.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but to me it seems more a copy of the TV show 'Heroes' than anything relating to 'Mistborn'.

And Heroes is a cheep copy of the X-men lol! So I guess it's all fair. :D

Actually, I always thought Heroes was a DIRECT ripoff of "The 4400", which in turn, borrowed many ideas from Taken and, yup, the X-Men (which is also a rip off of Superman and other early comics)

As I said, it has been 25 years since I read them. But there was no "lighting" going on there. And an oil/candle lamp would not have been considered old world since they used both.

Yes, the "old world lantern" would come on when you clicked a button and eventually die out. what else could it be? bilbo used one extensively in the caves.

And there are no flashlights in the Lord of the Rings, mtlhddoc.  Stop being so silly.

As I stated previously, he didnt call them "flashlights" - he called them "old world lanterns" - the Hobbit is chock full of them.

I absoltely hated Billy Madison. Love Happy Gilmore though. I voted 50 first dates, as I consider that one of the best romance movies period. Plus, I love the "realism" sandler throws into all of his movies. Plus, he plays off of Drew Barrymore better than any other woman. The chemistry is fantastic between them. Wedding Singer gets honorable mention.

the map Tolkien used was not the Euro-African map, but a partial-pangea map, essentially, what scientists have long believed the ancient past super-continent to be, and also what they believe it will become again. The "old-world" lanterns in LotR are nothing more than flashlights. And there were other "throwbacks" to our "modern" times as well. The Simarillion showed more of these than the Hobbit and trilogy did. (If I remember it correctly, it has been 25 years or so since I read the books).

You all know that "Middle-Earth" is based on the real Eaerth right?

Many authors use the real map to create their world, just modified slightly. If anything, you just cant say "he stole the middle earth map!" because Tolkien "stole" the real Earth map. LotR itself is intended to be the story of this world several hundred/thousand years into the future.

Po0lygamy is actually standard practice in most religions, only Judaism and Christianity ban the practice. all the other major religions it is standard for a man to have multiple wives.

Honestly Shaggy, dont take the risk until you know you will be able to RESPONSIBLY consume. I was not responsible, I was very immature, and then one day I woke up and realize I had missed about 10 years of my life. I am doing fine now, but I am way behind.

As for wilson: I think you are Mormon right? If so, then it is against the religion to consume alcohol, so your "dryness" is certainly understandable :)
