Congrats on the date, Gemm! Hope it goes well.

I made it to California safe and sound. Should be here about two weeks. The first week will be just me and my little brother. He's playing me some of his music right now (it's very loud), and I'm going to help him with his English homework. He's a cool kid, should be fun to hang out this week.  ;D

Stephenie Meyer's getting a lot of attention at BYU because she's getting a lot of attention nationwide from librarians, teachers, and teens. The vampire novel will never die, I think. She's a BYU alum and a Utah native (I *think*, on that last one.

According to the Deseret News article Nessa linked she's now living in Arizona. So this really is a book tour--she's in town and hitting spots.

Even though I live in Salt Lake, I actually can't make any of those times (busy tonight, leaving tomorrow to go to California for 2 weeks). So, I'm going to try to go to Provo, since I was going down tonight for the Peter Breinholt concert anyway. I'll just have to go a little earlier now.

Do you think you'll go, Nessa? I've never met you in person.

Books / Twilight book signing at BYU

This came on one of my email lists. Thought I'd post it here in case anyone was interested.

You are all invited to the BYU campus on Friday, September 15
2006, for a "Stephenie Meyer event." Stephenie will sign books in the
BYU Bookstore from 2:00-3:30 p.m. and then lecture in the Harold B. Lee
Library Auditorium (level 1) from approximately 3:45 p.m. Stephenie
graduated from BYU with a degree in English. She is the author of
Twilight and the just-released New Moon. She has also been invited to
participate in the 2006 National Book Festival. The Festival is
organized and sponsored by the Library of Congress and First Lady Laura
Bush hosts the event which will take place Saturday, 30 September 2006
on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The following websites may be
of interest to you:

Twilight is a YA vampire book that has gotten a lot of hype. I haven't read it yet but I'm thinking of going and picking up a copy and getting it signed. I just found out recently that Stephenie Meyer is LDS, and I'm always interested in meeting LDS authors who have made it big in mainstream fiction.

I got a job yesterday. A very small job writing articles for a new parenting website, but still. It fits into my master plan of building up my freelance portfolio and slowly transitioning to working at home, so I have more control of my schedule and can work even if I'm not feeling well.

So, yay for me!  :D

That makes more sense, though.

I'm wavering between the cool and disturbing thread. Because it made me laugh, I settled on the cool.

A modern day Lysistrata! No hanky-panky until you stop being criminals!  ;D

I'm grumpy because John Scalzi, who has NEVER contributed to this site, is in the corner for looking cute in a tiara, while I, Chimera, who am far cuter (with or without said tiara), have never been in the corner.  >:(

Bah ha ha. Who am I kidding? That's great!  ;)

Writing Group / Re: Pen names
« on: September 14, 2006, 02:43:16 AM »
So many choices!

Well, I've always been a fan of alliteration, so perhaps you could try the S names?

Stacy Shaub
Stacy Seaton
S. L. Shaub
S. L. Seaton

I kind of like Stacy Seaton. But, really, there are a lot of good family names to choose from. I like Lynn Whitman, too, and if you're leaning toward that, it's great. I think it really comes down to what YOU like.

And of course you should decide on a pen name before finishing your novel! That's part of the fun of planning to be an author. Me, I've decided to just use my own name. Not any YA authors with my last name, as far as I know, just a SL journalist. And, I like my name. I've had it awhile, and I'd like to keep it, even if I get married, and this way I will (without having to refuse to change my name).  Now I'm published in the Friend under that name. Yay!

Besides, how else am I supposed to show all those people in high school and college I finally accomplished my goal if it's not the name they knew me by on the cover? Because, I mean, that's why I'm doing this of course--to show them all!!!  ;)

If for some bizzare reason cyber space gobbles them up and you don't get them, let me know. Because I worked hard on them, dang it, and I want you to get them!  :)
