Right off the bat this bothered me "He paused.  What had he been doing? "

Who is asking this question?  I know that it can either be Ichabod himself, in which we're seeing into his head, as some flavor of omniscient POV, or it can be the narrator asking the question of the reader.

In the first case it bugs me because the rest of the scene to that point didn't imply that we had an omniscient POV, merely a floating camera POV.

In the second case, if it's Ichabod's POV, how exactly were we getting the floating camera information before?

Smack them both and tell them to stop grandstanding.

I don't know if I can , in good conscience, go to a "geek" event where girls outnumber the guys.  It just seems wrong.

I'm going to have to research when that was written, exactly, and when John Ringo's war with the Posleen series started.  'Cause from the description you gave,  one of them was VERY heavily INFLUENCED by the other.

 

I had no trouble pronouncing kosa zubatej and I feel like the "bane of all other magic users"  the "wizard killer" needed a cooler name than just kosa.

It absolutely outweighs the pain and loss.  You might as well ask the same question about a spouse.

I venture to guess that you probably think pedophilia is an urge people ought to resist.  At the same time NAMBLA would no doubt argue that their desires are just as central to who they are as your homosexuality or my heterosexuality is to us.  So, whether we agree on which urges fall into the forbidden category is a separate issue from whether some urges ought to be denied no matter their source or inception.

Some ancient Greeks would have argued this as well, in fact.  Pederasty was, according to some, part of the normal and desireable bond between men and boys.
