They keep announcing or rumoring a realease of Hobbit. But to date all we've ever gotten is the crappy cartoon that never finished.
Now it's slated for release in 2012. But wait! It's in two parts and we only get the FIRST half in 2012. Dejavu all over again.

I read that they will start filming in march. My understanding is that they had alot of issues financing the movie due to the bad economy.
-
Didn't they get tied up in litigation during pre-production over an accusation of unpaid royalties to the Tolkien estate?

Here's video of the actors:

I really hope that The Hobbits as good as the Ring Trilogy, we can only hope.
-
I got an update from the horse's mouth that the Hobbit is supposed to be the whole book, while the second movie will be material from sources like Farmer (Jiles of?) Hamm and Simarillion.
-
they have started production. I am not sure if that means filming. Right now the first one is scheduled to be released in late 2012.
-
If they're releasing it that soon then they'd better be filming!
-
Of course the fact they already have the LoTR trilogy to draw on, some of the grunt work will probably go much quicker than usual.
-
True. I vaguely remember hearing that after RotK they left a good portion of the sets there in preparation for the Hobbit.

Here's something from the man himself:

I wonder where the rest of that vBlog will be posted.

I think filming has started on this. I think the first film is out christmas 2012.
-
I think there are 2 movies. The first will be the hobbit, the second will be an original movie that will bridge the gap between the hobbit and lord of the rings. I don't know how much Tolkein wrote about this, so alot of the content may be original.

Interesting......I thought they were going to split The Hobbit into two parts so they could milk the franchise for everything it's worth.
