I found some clipart. Just the other day, actually--I had been using the Superman logo from the forum. But in browsing the geocities clipart when putting together that Halloween picture, I found some funny ones and snagged them. I don't know an exact link--I had copied them onto a dummy page, looked at the source code, and used that url. I don't know--maybe that's not terribly kosher--but I figure it's clipart for general use, should be okay.

Kije, you can link to any appropriately sized image on the web (but it has to be online somewhere). In MoD's and my cases, they're images I found and resized and uploaded on my site.

In my case i agreed with spriggan in a debate so he would be favourable to me and then got him to shove it on the TWG server. :)

I just took a picture I liked and sliced out a little section of it using MS paint. Make sure it's square, and it's somewhere under a hundred pixels per side, and you should be okay.
Of course, you have to have a place to upload it so you can send for it with a link.

I recommend right clicking hte images right from that page and choosing "Save Picture As..." (not save target as)
Then use Paint or something to make sure it's square. Maybe I'll get unlazy and do it at home, but I don't have a way to upload it anywhere from here.

In other news, SE now has class titles again. I don't think it will be quite so hard to keep ahead of him in the future. He's hit the 50-barrier, where the levels start coming a bit more slowly.

yeah, and it keeps getting further and further.
Level 51 only took 10 posts to level 52, but level 52 keeps getting longer, unless i"m high (quite possible) and not remembering right. at first it was 110. then 120, and now 130.

No, it was always 120. I just changed it to 130, since I checked over the numbers again looking for errors and realized it was off. Still don't know what happened with that 10--the document says that should have been 110. Oh well.

It all began about 4 years ago, I was a freshman in high school. I befriended some people, but one of them was not like the others. He was the one that "didn't belong." And I've been friends with him ever since. But over the years things rub off of people, and with him it was the same. But nothing totally useful rubbed off, nope. Why what rubbed off was his insanity. So now I've been getting insaner while he gets saner. Crazy no?

Yes. The previous avatar was Maleficent in her dragon form, but I think it was too small for anyone to see. I'd still like to crop this one so that maybe Maleficent will be easier to see, but I need to wait until we can afford the student version of Photoshop, which is aproximately 1/3 of the retail price.

Cosplaying usually refers to anime or video game characters, too. There are cosplaying conventions too. and you don't just dress up, you assume the persona of the person you are obsessed with/dressed as. Gender means nothing, (because majority of cosplayers are girls), and yeah - they are more or less considered the lowest ranks of geek society. The epitome of "Dude, get a life."
My husband's last girlfriend is an obsessive cosplayer.

I would point out, before we get into serious mockery, that it seems tasteless to me to denigrate these people. To many in the world, my status as a fantasy novelist might be the epitome of 'dude, get a life.' Certainly those of us who 'waste time' playing RGPs would be mocked by the mainstream world. A lot of guys I know waste an enormous amount of time playing video games. Can we really say that what these people do with their time is any less worthwhile than what we do with it?
Many of us have been called names for much of our lives because of our interests. It seems hypocritical to me for us to simply turn around and find a sub-culture even more 'geeky' than ourselves, then mock them in an effort to inflate our own senses of self-worth.
PS--I do not mean to point fingers. I realize that Fuzzy did not say that they were in need of 'getting a life'--she just said that is how they are generally seen, and she is correct.

oh, I'm not taking it personally. I just don't think we need a united front. I think art forms like comics and fantasy prose need more establishment recognition, but I dont' know if i care that they're generally popular. I have a feeling that part of why people like gaming or sf or whatever is BECAUSE it's so different from "normal" things and they like to stand out. Persecution is just a part of that (so if you think about it, I'm doing them a FAVOR by teasing them). I don't want people to think my hobbies are dangerous (spiritually, morally, psychologically, or what have you), but there's no need for the public to enjoy what I enjoy. Heaven forbid there shoudl be a cable "role playing channel" where we can watch people play D&D 24/7. That too would be extremely dorky and below my level.

I like almost all the anime i have seen, although i regard it as very sloppy - they never bother to develop the worlds properly, they always just take modern day, slap in mechas or whatever, and thats them. Talk about lazy. And the characters are usually dramatically stereotypical.
Cosplay, never done it, never been to a con or seen it in person. However, the video on fileplanet of the Tokyo Game convention was all about the cosplayers, and a lot of the japanese girls looked very cute in their costumes ^_^
And on the subject of icons, i regard people as looking like the avatars. So i regard EUOL as looking like that, glazed expression and all, Kjie is lucky, and SE looks wierd. And fuzzy looks like a cosplayer.

actually, when I was editing it, I almost coverd that up. But then I realized it WASN'T his thumb. It's a bit of head hair that moves into his face, sort of like a sideburn. It appears on the non blindfolded version even when the hand isn't up there. So I left it. I suppose I could have edited it out, but I figured his hair stuck out and curled around.

the gif isn't set to a constant loop, that's why. open it up with a animated GIF editor and change it's loop setting to allwayse, then save it. That should fix the problem.

oh ya, Zartan came with a "Swamp rat" if I remeber correctly, wich looked like a hill-billy speeder bike from starwars. And he turned blue in sunlite. That was a cool figure.

if you don't have one, go to download.com and do a search for animated gif programs. The one I use is Animation Shop, which is bundled with Paint Shop Pro. The free version is only good for 30 days though, so unless you buy it (or find a crack) I don't recommend doing that.

Oh, I didn't think that I was being blamed. I was just pleased by the occasion of a highly-visible spelling error that didn't belong to myself or my brother. The fact that I actually noticed it ahead of time, but was completely unable to correct it, only heightens the irony.
