Title: Me thinks something is broken
Post by: GorgonlaVacaTremendo on August 03, 2004, 05:18:48 PM
Uh, TWG does this periodically and it usually fixes when I reload.  It didn't fix this time.  On the main page it says Jeffe was the last one to post on Rants and Stuff, but when I get here it appear someone else actually did the last post.  Thought I'd share since I don't know if the server is just messing up or if I am missing part of today's posts...

I'll wager it's something on your end. DOesn't say anything about Gemm here.
On the other hand, it might just be that you missed a post in that short time, and it changes in between your on the main forum page and in the "rants" forum.

Yeah, I've gotten problems like that before. I just ignore them and move on. No use in crying over spilt html.

Mine does that too, mostly with the Introduce Yourself thread.  I figure someone was just editing one of their posts.

Alright, well, after I shut down my computer there were a ton of post that it wasn't getting before.  My best guess is that for some reason I wasn't reading the site, so my computer was reading it from memory, as if I was disconnected.  That would make sense as it was reading just like it had the last time I was on.  Anyway, it's fixed now.

Talking from someone working at a computer helpdesk:

It's a caching problem. Tools, Internet Options, delete files and cookies. That should help.

JP, you're not meant to be giving good advice.  What happened to BOFH, and the Bastard Helpdesk from Hell? Huh? An appropriate answer to something like that would be that it was PBKAC:
Problem Between Keyboard And Chair

No, No it wouldn't. I like my job, and I'd like to keep it.

But, but, but... *sigh* you're a lost cause

I think you'll find the BOFHs, who have no understanding of how people work yet are trying to work in a human-centered job, are the lost causes. if I were in charge, I'd be firing anyone who claims a helpdesk job is working with "Computers" instead of saying it involves working with "people", as these are the sort of people who have no clue how things should be done.
