Title: Movie Deal
Post by: Fellfrosch on September 17, 2009, 04:07:58 PM
I Am Not a Serial Killer has been officially optioned for a movie! Huzzah! It's still very early in the process, so there's not much to say, but feel free to speculate wildly.

My vague, no-very-informative blog post on the subject can be found here: http://www.fearfulsymmetry.net/?p=299

Awesome, congrats! Any word on people starring in it? As in big names or small names?

I will be playing myself in the 3rd movie.

I think it would be awesome for all the corpses in the series to be played by the people I named them after. That would absolutely crack me up.

Though an option does not necessarily mean that the film will get made, I will hold out hope. Not that it's unlikely for this to be made, considering that they have already approached a director. The really hard part will be getting a proper screenwriter to adapt it.

Let us know about all of the gritty details, please. Can you disclose names or studios yet?

Indeed.  We're all anxious for details.  Hopefully Lindsay Lohan isn't considered a option in this one, however.

Actually, we've cast Lohan as John. And Herbie as the demon.

No, in truth they are nowhere near casting, though as of this morning they think they've found a screenwriter. I can't tell you who it is, but he sounds awesome.

That's interesting.  Do you get any role in the screenwriting process?  (I remember following Terry Goodkind about the time his Sword of Truth series was bought for a tv series.  They were all excited, was told that they would be involved in the creative process, etc.

Then, somewhere along the way, they totally changed it.  Goodkind has actually said he can't watch it anymore.  I would hate for that to happen to you.

Just because people don't like goodkind's work doesn't mean the point isn't relevant.  Hollywood people don't only screw over the people who are bad writers.  (And besides, I read all  of goodkinds stuff, and while it may not have been earth shattering, i thought it was a good waste of time.)

misquoting for great justice. I love the power of ellipsis :D

(note: i've never read any of goodkind's stuff, i just saw an excellent opportunity to misquote for a misleading statement)

"A good waste of time" is an excellent way to describe Goodkind's work, I think.

More on topic: Congrats, Dan. I really hope they do make it. (And I don't even watch movies.)

Hey, if they DO let you in on the creative process at all, think you could manage a blog post or two on the subject? I'd be really interested to see how that all breaks down.

I'm excited, did they ever decide if they were going with the director who did "Isolation" I think it was?

(Creepy movie.  One of the best horror films I've seen in forever.)

Yes, it's definitely Billy O'Brien, the Isolation guy. I really like his work.

What other movies did he do that were good?

His only other significan't work is a short called The Tale of the Rat that Wrote. It's on the Isolation DVD, or you can find it on youtube. Pretty good, though I like Isolation much more.

Yeah, the story was really amazing.

Plus the way everything happened was just . . . . really well done.  I'm excited he is the one doing IANASK.

Any more news on the movie?  I think it could make a really good movie if done well.

Well, as was said, its only been *optioned* for a movie. This means that someone in hollywood is essentially "thinking about it". This means it may or may not get made, and some movies can be optioned for years before anything is ever done (or being dropped). I'd be surprised if it went from being optioned to in production that quickly, but you never know.

I have been cast as John Wayne Cleaver.  With a goatee.  And more rugged good looks.  Just cause I'm 30 doesn't mean I cant play a 15 year old.  QUIT JUDGING ME!
