I was on a tight schedule to get all the WoT books read before Book 12 comes out... not that I'm complaining, but now the pressure is on!

Yeah, I was trying to time my re-read so that I would get done within a month of the gathering storm. Unfortunately, I forgot how much I love WoT. I was partially counting on it being a re-read, and hoping that that would slow me down. That being said, I finished about a book every 2 days. So I'll probably have to re-read soe of it again come October if I'm going to get everything in the Gathering Storm. The change is a welcome one, though. Since reading Jason's review on Dragonmount, I've been dying of curiosity.

Makes sense. I just finished my second re-read, so I could probably just read book 11 the week before and be good.

Book 11 will only bring you back to zero where the characters is at the moment though :) All the foreshadowing and other information is spread across all the other books and the more you know, the better experience you will get i bet when you realize what connects to what.

I haven't even started my re-read yet. I'll probably still be workin' on it when book 12B comes around LOL.

I find this kind of incredible, because the 27th is my birthday.  ;D What an amazing present!  :D

Doesn't get much better, Shaggy.

Yes, but since I just read the whole series in the last two weeks, I'm still pretty fresh. Knife of Dreams should be enough as a quick refresher of where the plot left off, and then I'm good. Not to say I won't reread it again. I might, if I don't get insanely busy with schoolwork.

I agree.

Two weeks?? Do you sleep?? Work?? Eat??

Well, it is summer...

Many people work during the summer. As for eating and sleeping. . . .

Anyways, f you think about it, there are twelve books in the series (New Spring included), and if each one (except for New Spring) is roughly 700–1000 pages, then let's say there's an average of 800 per book. That's about (roughly, of course) 400 pages a day . . . with the small type . . . for me that's nigh on impossible.  :-\

If you've read the books before it goes somewhat faster, though if you're re-reading for extra details the re-reads will be slower than the first. Four hundred pages a day wouldn't be so unreasonable for someone with a high reading speed.

400 pages a day is quite reasonable for me. I can do about 80-100 pages in an hour, depending on font size. So 4-5 hours, which isn't too much. Especially when you consider that I don't have a job right now.

Hmm . . . I've never tried reading for that long a period but I doubt my reading speed is that fast.  :-\

I'm one of the ones who will not read the entire series again .... it would just take too long. But I think will will go through the last two in preparation for the new one. That should bring me back up to speed fairly well!

Looking forward to see Brandon's take on the characters, and just how well he can blend his style with RJ's ... hopefully this will work out very nicely!

I read Winter's Heart (I think) in one day.  Got it as a Christmas present, unwrapped it at about 10 am, finished it somewhere around midnight.  Two weeks for the entire series is definitely possible, but you'd have to do very little else but eat and sleep to pull it off.

The first time I went through the series, I read every book except for the Shadow Rising, Path of Daggers, and Crossroads of Twilight in one day. Shadow Rising because it was really really long and Path of Daggers and Crossroads of twilight because they seemed really really long. Crossroads of twilight was the low point in the series for me, although I think it's one of my favorite titles.

Shaggy,  I sometimes read for 8 - 9 hours without even taking a break, particularly when its a good book, so with my current abundance of time, I could probably get a goodly amount of reading done were I to go find new books. I'm sick of re-reading, and my current state of joblessness makes it rather difficult to afford new books. And I don't believe in libraries. Not really sure why, I've just always hated reading library books.

well, i think i might make it, now.

five and six went very quickly (six is my favorite, and four.... and nine), and i just finished eight yesterday, picked up nine this morning.

that gives me two months to finish three books, which is the rate i was reading before.  (yea, spent an entire weekend doing nothing but reading five and six)

I'm doing my re-re-re-re-re-re-re-read. Too much? :P I usually make it a goal to read through the series at least once a year. Except I started reading them when I was about 15 soooo.... I guess I've averaged reading through it 2 times a year :D

I first read the series in eight grade, didn't read it in 9th, and have read it every year since.

When it was announced that Brandon would be finishing the WoT, I made foolish plans to have the series re-read by the time book 12 came out. Hah. Totally haven't started.

The problem was that I didn't own most of them because, on my first time through, I checked out as many as possible from the library. When the library didn't have one in stock, I'd run out and buy it, so I wound up with books 3, 4, 7, and 8. Being less inclined now to track stuff down at the library (busy busy and all that), that means I'd need to buy 8 books for this crazy project, and I've been putting it off.

Sigh. I don't normally reread books (too much that's new to constantly revisit the old), even when new books come out in series and it's been upwards of two years. My memory's pretty good and I don't ordinarily have any issues picking the series back up where it left off. But this is the WoT, and the last book I read was Path of Daggers, 11 years ago. No way could I just pick up Winter's Heart and run from there—not with these books.

So, maybe I'll be ready for book 12 by the time it hits paperback. ;D

Did you know? Right now Amazon has a ton of WoT books for sale with a 4 for 3 discount. I was originally just planning to grab enough to get free shipping, but by the time they were through with me I'd ordered books 0, 1, 2, 5, and 11. (Why 11? The hardcover was only $12. I'm a sucker, I know.)

Bah.  I almost bought a Kindle tonight until I realized that TGS isn't going to be available in that format.

It will be available as an ebook in September 2010 or something like that. I assume that will include a Kindle edition but I could be wrong.
