Classic as in rock 'n roll meaning atleast 30 years old, and renowned to boot...if you chose other please give then name of the series...please do not list stand alones

I almost feel like I'm copping out when I put Lord of the Rings, and yet....it is very much so THE classic fantasy.

Amber isn't more than 20 years old if that so i didn't put it up there... i love that series

Nine Princes in Amber came out in 1970 I believe, so almost 40 years old now . . .

I have a problem with merging classic SciFi with fantasy when categorizing. Classic fantasy? Kiplings translation of "Tales of 1001 nights". Classic SciFi? Robert Heinlein: "Citizen of the Galaxy"

Well, Jules Verne is older than Kipling (though not as old as the authors of the Arabian Nights)...

I was judging age by the time the last book came out...and was under the impression that it was mid 80's when the last amber book came out.... and all of what i listed were series so please limit yourselves to them

You almost have to put Lord of the Rings in its own category, everything else competes for second place.

Well, Verne and Shelley are so old (19'th century) that most people think of them as too formative to be classical. For "classic" I tend to limit myself to the mid 20'th century. Fletcher Pratt, Keith Laumer and Ben Bova have got to be up there on the list of greatest "classics".
